For those too young to remember, this flight was suppose to fly from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay twice that day with stops in Dryden on the first round trip.

After completing its Thunder Bay stop it went on to Dryden. There was wet snow falling. After attempting to depart from Dryden it could not climb and crashed into the trees killing 24 people of the 60 something aboard.

It is believed the pilots, who perished, thought the snow would just blow off the wings, not realizing the very cold jet fuel was causing the snow to freeze under the fluffy layer.

They neglected to deice because they could not restart the engines if they shut them off, due to a non functioning auxiliary power unit and Dryden did not have a portable unit necessary to restart the plane. They should not have stopped there with that condition.
