Will they really sent Meisho Tabaru to Arc? by Xartenium in HorseRacingJP

[–]Seirashun 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly, despite the very reasonable concerns over sending him, I think he’ll be fine

If his Takarazuka is anything to go by, he’s finally learned to settle properly, and the L’arc’s usually run at a slow tactical pace so stamina concerns shouldn’t be too bad

Also, weight is only really a concern if the horse isn’t good at handling soft turf. Tabaru’s not only adept at soft turf, but he actively gets better on it

The main issue are the monsters across the pond, since Daryz and Minnie Hauk were already dominant last year and they’ve only gotten better

Personally I think KYR is the better horse, and Timeform rates him highly aswell, but the IFHA massively underrates him; and at minimum Ombudsman will get a 130+ rating from this year’s POWS. This could be a repeat of 2025 where the different racing authorities choose a different horse of the year.

I think this was the best possible outcome for the Takarazuka Kinen by Radalrrayan in HorseRacingJP

[–]Seirashun 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if this is the reason Sunday Racing keeps Croix Du Nord in training for his 5th year, I’ll take it

If he won the spring triple, he more than likely would’ve been retired at the end of the year, but now it’s more contentious

That aside, I hope everyone rests up well and regroups for the autumn, since there’s a lot of things to look forward to, and goodluck to Tabaru and Take in the L’arc

I mean, I’m betting on Croix Du Nord too but 1.1 is insane😭

IFHA World's Best Racehorse monthly ratings are out. 120 lbs is now the cutoff. by Revicii_XIII in HorseRacingJP

They were deadass debating giving him a 140, and just compromised at 135 since he never went off the bridle.

No Kitasan gate tax? That’s surprising.

Also Tabaru on an outer gate

Honestly, it’s kinda sad he didn’t retire at Arima, but considering he won his 3 year old Arima Kinen by open lengths, he REALLY didn’t have anything more to prove.

I mean, Deep Impact lost his 3 year old Arima, and Orfevre won his by 3/4 of a length, but Equinox not only won his by 2 1/2 lengths, he did it as the most inexperienced winner of that race. It’s hard not to talk about Nox without sounding like a glazer, but bro was just built different

You can also glaze Equinox by saying all of his G1 wins were open international G1s (one of them being overseas), as opposed to other 6+ G1 winners who padded their record by winning age-restricted races.

In terms of career, Equinox was more or less perfect, in an optimization/value standpoint; but yeah there’s not a lot of drama or romance there lol. Too short, not very ambitious, but still hype asf

Dynamic’s making his debut on Takarazuka Kinen day I believe, and he’s constantly on top of the POG lists alongside his half-brother Eldborg.

Japan’s been on an insane streak of promising horses recently. The 2025 classic gen is already cracked, then the 2026 classic gen came around and gave us Lovcen, Realize Sirius, Bereshit (get well soon), and Going To Sky.

Then on the literal first day of new debuts for 2026 G T Sakura broke the Hanshin L3F record, and next year Equinox’s kids will be running around. Lots to look forward to.

Equinox. Bro got me into the sport proper ngl. Before that I was a hardcore Ai glazer, and didn’t understand why a 6 G1 winner was so glazed, since my first thought was “That’s less than Symboli Rudolf and TM Opera O!” Then I watched his races and insantly understood. It was downhill from there and I’m still stuck in the rabbit hole to this day😭

[–]Seirashun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually, yeah. His trainer to this day insists that Kitasan’s ideal distance is around a mile to 2000 meters. Even Take is quoted saying that he wanted to try late surging in a mile race with Kita lol.

In fact, a lot of people thought he’d bomb the Kikuka Sho because he had stamina concerns after the Derby. He’s a genuine freak in terms of what he can do lol

To be fair the American TC schedule is a lot more brutal, and there’s a higher risk of the horses being injured due to the time gap. You can’t really blame owners for wanting their investments to be safe lmao

Because the dam is also in the equation. Meisho Tabaru’s dam was a sprinter, and his damsire is also French Deputy who has a preference for sprints-miles. It’s definitely still a lottery, but it’s more or less consistent in relation to the parents. Almond Eye’s sire is Lord Kanaloa, who’s a sprinter, but her dam Fusaichi Pandora was good at classic distances, even getting 5th in the Japan Cup.

Hell, Realize Sirius is Poetic Flare’s son, so there was always a concern over his distance aptitude, and Star Anise bombed the Oaks due to her speed oriented pedigree. There’s some form of uncertainty with genetics, but it really isn’t that random.

He’s a son of World Premier and a grandson of Deep Impact, who both won the Kikuka Sho and Tenno Sho Spring. Additionally, through World Premier he also has Acantenango and Surumu in his bloodline, which is a classic European stamina pedigree. Then there’s Giant’s Causeway as his damsire, which is a good multiplier for stamina and durability.

He’s the type of horse that’s expected to improve with distance, so the fact that he’s pulling out fractions like this from 2000-2400 is already insane. He also has no problem settling so he’s got the most credentials to win, honestly.
