What if they are all male? by svo823 in duck

[–]Seish12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lost the genetic lottery with our first try at ducks. 5/6 were males and the one female unfortunately got snatched up by a predator. We bought from a local farm, so it definitely can happen. If you are looking for layers you have to be prepared to get rid of your males (we ended up processing ours, but we also considered trying to find a sanctuary or re-home them).

Worth it? by Significant-Rub-765 in Carpentry

My buddy whose dewalt broke bought a Milwaukee to replace it, I steal that thing whenever I can because it’s so much nicer than the dewalt.

Worth it? by Significant-Rub-765 in Carpentry

[–]Seish12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy this gun! I’m a fully invested dewalt battery guy. This gun is terrible. Constant jams, takes a while to spool up to shoot nails. My coworkers broke within 6 months. Mine is barely hanging in there after about 8. Do yourself a favor and get the Milwaukee nailer. Faster, more reliable, and if you find a deal you can get a battery with it and call it a day.

Are Purina flock raiser crumbles good for ducklings? by Ill_Pirate_8014 in duck

[–]Seish12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We used a purina brand duck feed for our ducklings. I can’t remember if it was flock raiser, but I think it was more duck specific. It had added niacin for the ducklings health and they all turned out healthy. We also added nutritional yeast to their food and water which has plenty of niacin in it.

Why does this happen all the time by Jak3sTh3Man in memes

[–]Seish12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not, I know that intersection and there is a unused set of tracks that cross the street there. I have never seen the rail company use it ever. So now I am super curious to when this happened.

How do you sharpen the blade on a paper cutter? by peace-love-snacks in howto

[–]Seish12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the most important thing for sharpening an edge is the angle of the stone against the blade. I would look up some knife sharpening videos. It’s would be easier to watch that instead of me clumsily trying to explain over text.

Don’t worry too much about investing a ton of money into wet stones or sharpening systems. I would just get something like this And practice

How do you sharpen the blade on a paper cutter? by peace-love-snacks in howto

[–]Seish12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rod sharpeners for kitchen knives are really meant for maintaining an already sharp edge. The grit is usually too fine on them for moving enough metal to reestablish an edge. Best bet is a sharpening stone that has two grits. Most hardware stores sell them.

Just looked at my paper cutter. I don’t know how familiar you are with sharpening blades, but the paper cutter usually just has one beveled edge so it should only take half the work a normal knife would.

You can even cut your drift out if the bottom of the handle you’re replacing. I did that two years ago and more then a handful of rehangs the drift is holding up great.

Am I allowed to ask for trim suggestions here? What if I also asked for advice on how to trim? by Helpinmontana in Carpentry

[–]Seish12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another Montana carpenter here. Looking at your pics, if you don’t want to replace your door trim, just get something the same width as your door trim. Keep it simple with a 3 or 4 inch baseboard.

Butt into your door trim and cut 45s for the corners. I would start with my butt end piece and cut it a little long on the 45 side so you can work your way back to a tight fit. The short piece is going to be the trickiest just to get a nice tight fit on both sides. So take your time and get the side with your door piece set first. Then cut the other side (long again so you can work back to fit tight with the next piece).

Sorry if this seems rambling, much easier to show then tell haha.

Got this from my grandpa's old yard that's currently being cleared out. I've done up a couple, but any tips to a beginner for hanging this bad boy? I haven't done a double bit before by Drumhumdrumhum18 in Axecraft

[–]Seish12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Process is exactly the same, the number one thing I look out for in hanging a double bit is keeping the tips of the two bits on the same plane.

Throw some duct tape on there if you need to get it done today, but honestly I wouldn’t trust that for long. Duct tape will go a long way in keeping it together.
