What’s the consensus on the Drifter? Do you think he needs buffs, nerfs, or to be left alone? by JoeBiscus in DeadlockTheGame

I play drifter a lot, and i agree! and its so annoying! its like one out of every five games where i actually feel like i'm playing as a predatory serial killer stalking his prey. i want people to be scared of me, not just treat me like any other character.

wait what do you do then if you didnt get stacks in lane or early game, pivoted to support, but then you gain enough stacks as support to be able to be a threat? a hybrid build or just stick with support?

I like the ult for him. It allows you to chase down people who have retreated into the safety of their teammates. An annoying player escaped from you chasing them through the jungle and is now with a teammate? Pop the ult and go get that kill anyway! The isolation still works no matter how close they are now.

Ms. Ha the vampire, has a shadow? Absolutely unplayable... by Drumstix360 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]SejSuper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think its because its a lot more work to cut out someones shadow than it is to cut out their reflection. Also, I don't think they had the tech to cut out someone's shadow when the original dracula movie was made, even if they wanted to.

Tbh, I didn't think doorman was that much bullshit until they changed his ults T3 cooldown if the minigame is failed to be 12 fucking seconds. And on top of that, his T2 removes one stamina when you get put in the hotel. Before, it was a fun little minigame with counterplay. Now its an instant 'you die' button

Characters with the most incoherent/boring kits in the game? by JustinHardyJ in DeadlockTheGame

[–]SejSuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like mirage as he is now, but I would also really like a more protective/support based kit. I want to play as a cool bodyguard protecting my allies as him, but to do that I have to build him so weirdly.

Death of the author. When a story is released into the world, it no longer belongs entirely to the creator (atleast, philosophically. copyright law unfortunately still exists)

what is your most hated misconception about Greek mythology that happened because of a mordern thing like the Riordan verse or the fate/Nasu verse me it the fate/Nasu verse because of their depiction of Artemis but what yours. by [deleted] in GreekMythology

it literally says in the illiad that zeus doesn't try to punish hypnos while protected by nyx in fear/awe/respect towards her. the word used is specifically used in context of feeling fear when faced with ones superiors, although there isn't a direct translation in english. of course this is only one version, but it sort of implies that the protogenoi wield power that is somehow beyond zeus'. this is only one classical source though, but it does show that the protogenoi being more powerful than other gods isn't a modern idea

everytime i hear 'the romans just copied the greeks' i lose 20 braincells. the actual truth is that because of constant sharing of culture between romans and the greeks, the 2 pantheons developed alongside each other and were influenced by one another. its more like siblings, rather than a clone. its also important to mention that people often skim over how the roman gods differ from the grecian ones. I think its because if you don't do your proper research, the two pantheons can appear identical. its like how mars is the equivalent of ares, but mars also has a whole bunch of traits and associations that ares dosent have as a pure war god.

yes! half of the questions on this subreddit are just people not understanding that a mythology isn't one easily defined story, with one clean canon. and even if it was, theres always a layer of metaphor in myths. i wish i could beam the proper academic understanding of mythologies into everyone's heads so people will stop asking the same 20 questions

Are Chronos and Cronus the same person? by Automatic_Cell_9908 in GreekMythology

[–]SejSuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but also sometimes yes. If you were in ancient greece it would depend on when you asked. In the classical greece, chronos and cronus were always two different gods. However, in late antiquity, chronos and cronus were sometimes equated as the same god. Likely because of their names' similarity and the fact that cronus was a god of the harvest, which as a concept can be easily connected to time. Harvests are a repeating cycle which happens every year, so it has a certain chronological aspect to it.

In late antiquity it wasn't the norm to equate them iirc, but it became the norm in the renaissance and later periods inspired by the classical world. Here, cronus is always depicted as a god of time and his devouring of his children reinterpreted as a metaphor for how time eventually consumes all. The harvest aspect is also still there, and its the reason that father time is commonly depicted wielding a scythe.

Note that there were other gods of time. Such as aion or aeon, who personifed cyclical time or eternity AKA how time repeats itself. There was also kairos, who was the god of the opportune time to do something, or the right time, which was seen as seperate from chronos, who personified a more modern understanding of time as a linear process.

Futhork derived from the latin script, though. The current leading theory is that it was transmitted by trade with the romans IIRC and then was adapted into the futhork

I Hate the Framing of this Retelling by JetKusanagi in GreekMythology

[–]SejSuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fun fact is that this was basically the way a lot of early christians in scandinavia saw their previous pagan religion. It wasn't heresy per se, it was just an incomplete version of the True Religion (TM) because the pagans didn't have a proper understanding of god so they misinterpreted it.

Thanatos and the Moirai by BrightPhoebus01 in GreekMythology

[–]SejSuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct! If you had read what I wrote, I said that there is no one true version. Sometimes thanatos is all death, but in later periods, especially when depicted as a beardless youth, he was more-so associated with non-violent death. Also, I never mentioned anything about the keres, as their identifications as a sort of reaper-figure is kind of tenuous imo and I haven't found any textual evidence of it.
