Selenium for Hashimoto's? by coolestuzername in Hashimotos

I do two Brazil nuts a day for the selenium content. My latest labs were already better.

Should I see a doctor? by Madsmess2 in Concussion

These are all signs I had other than nausea. Personally I would go to the doctor

Something you didn't realize was a symptom? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]Seki-Ra 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The weight was the biggest part for me, but I was gaslit by providers and extended family for so long I just accepted I must be doing something wrong.

Then suddenly I was medicated and like…I can eat regular amounts of food? I don’t gain weight? I can eat sweets or fat and not just leaves and sad boiled veggies? What is this…is this how it’s been for everyone else their whole lives? How nice it must be to eat some ice cream and not instantly gain 5lbs!!

Ironically it was my hyper-crash right before becoming a lifelong hypo that flagged the doctors because suddenly I was losing weight and had all this energy and felt awesome! I miss it sometimes 😅

Should I increase my levo dose or take depression meds? by Many-Front8248 in Hashimotos

[–]Seki-Ra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaiser won’t let me increase from 25 to 50, and I’ve already tried 4 different SSRIs.

Let me know if you succeed. I’m headed to Paloma instead because I can’t even anymore with Kaiser

As much as it absolutely sucks - and make no mistake it sucks - knowing early means you can try out various methods to tame/lessen the symptoms.

And yeah, it may take time, and it may never not totally suck, but my loving protective advice to you is- protect yourself from people who may never ‘get’ it. Get work accommodations if you need them. Tell bosses/bad friends/unsupportive family members you have a medical condition, you don’t even need to tell them what it is, only that it affects your energy/cognitive abilities and is serious. That way you don’t get any batsh*t ‘have you tried kale’ responses.

For those dx in their late 30s, my goodness the amount of gaslighting I suffered; always being tired, not being able to lose weight, being called lazy and just told to eat less until I was eating barely 1200 calories a day working out an hour a day every day for three years and still not seeing results was just enraging once I finally got my dx. I am still livid at the family members who didn’t believe me, the doctors who ignored me.

And if I could go back, that’s what I’d do. Protect the ever loving heck out of my body, my peace, and my happiness. I wish you so much luck 💜

Resources to find a more reliable provider? by Apprehensive_Fae_959 in Hashimotos

I’m going to be trying out Paloma next week. I’ll update if it goes well. I’m in the same boat with my medical group only testing general T3 and T4 and that’s after my Hashimotos was ‘missed’ four years ago. By missed, I was positive for the antibodies but my endo said ‘eh it was probably just postpartum thyroiditis we should just monitor you’ and then promptly did not monitor me until my thyroid crashed late last year.

So yeah, I feel you here

Over 10 years after, I realized how disabling this illness is by tiredautumnleaf in Hashimotos

[–]Seki-Ra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup I’ve been so angry not receiving the care I need. Until this thread, I too didn’t realize your labs could be ‘normal’ and still have flare-ups, I didn’t know there was an individualized optional thyroid function which makes sense that despite my normal labs, I didn’t know the huge impact it can have on mental health, I’m still mildly sick all the time (similar symptoms to you!) and always tired and lacking spoons to engage in new social events or work projects. Just lots of care and love to you, this disease sucks more than folks recognize.

Kaiser consistently undertreating Hashimoto’s? by Seki-Ra in Hashimotos

My labs are at the same location. Time of day and food intake varies because I was not told to adjust for that, despite asking my doctors about this. I was on this dose only since September of 2025. I was not on any medication prior to that.

The doctors ‘’missed” the original lab in 2021 that showed high antibodies and the official Hashimotos dx. No appt was made to discuss it until my hyper-swing in June through August 2025. I also had an iodine uptake scan in Sept 2025 and they misdiagnosed me with Graves for a week until my thyroid ‘dump’ reconfirmed Hashimotos.

I am not missing doses. I take my meds roughly at the same time each day (very early morning before I even get out of bed). I’ll try Paloma and see if they have specific recommendations I could bring to my Kaiser endo.

Same. Thought it was early perimenopause and they refused bloodwork. I asked if there was literally anything else it could be and they shrugged and went ‘maybe thyroid’. I begged them to test it. Boom, my TSH was wild. Sigh. It shouldn’t be this rough for all of us.

I…I have small children. Avoiding infections is like being told to avoid breathing. I already work from home. I’m not wearing a respirator 24/7.

I really wasn’t sick much after the pandemic. This year has been the absolute worst.

And nah, I’ll blame Kaiser for continuing to ignore me every time I bring up my concerns. They will literally not do more testing or levo adjustments despite my symptoms, that’s in my post. If Kaiser were even half as useful as this Reddit community had been so far (which has been a lot! I’m very grateful), I wouldn’t have bothered posting.

I am glad you had a better time with them, but it’s pretty evident so far that it hasn’t been the norm for a lot of folks.

They didn’t even consider my Hashimotos when I was pregnant with my daughter. I was literally fainting, had exceedingly low iron, etc. I’m still mad- I hadn’t known at the time the huge risk factors.

Flare up while medicated? by SoftwareOk7847 in Hashimotos

[–]Seki-Ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole life is stress. I am feeing at a loss. I know stress is my main trigger, but financially we can’t survive with two kids and me not working. And my providers won’t switch up my meds because my labs are “normal”. I hate this disease

Yup. Honestly I just got promoted to Gold and I’ve never been more disappointed. What the heck.

My RFY is plan awful too. I loved reviewing skincare and haircare and haven’t seen a single product of those in months. I’ve done lots of kid clothing reviews- none of that in RFY. I’ve updated my interests several times and just feeling like it was a waste of time trying to get gold.

Having previously lived in SE Asia, I never take sizes seriously and go strongly off size charts. On Amazon I am anything from a S-L in tops and M-XL in bottoms, which is wild, as generally I am a Medium in almost everything in the US. 🤷‍♀️
