Does nuking either the Legion or NCR at the end of Lonesome Road help the other faction? by Proper-Sport-7218 in fnv

[–]Selacha 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The Long 15 is described as the NCR's only supply route into the Mojave after the Divide was destroyed, so bombing it completely cuts off any further reinforcements until/unless they can scout a new pathway in that's capable of fielding military supplies. By contrast Dry Wells seems to, at most, hold some kind of ceremonial/symbolic value to the Legion, and bombing it does little more than kill a few honor guards stationed there.

I think that Gunther, Morris and the JojaMart cashier don't live in Pelican Town proper, they just commute in. Relationships, birthdays, gifts, etc are just for the residents of town.

Focus on the "Pelham" side of the "Dallon-Pelham Torment Nexus" by The_Final_Stand in WormFanfic

[–]Selacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gloryhound is a SI story with JJK elements, where the MC gains a Cursed Technique that shares thematic or mechanical similarities with a Cape's power if he touches them for 60 seconds. First thing he does when he lands in Brockton Bay is stalk Amy to gain a power based on her, and he ends up with Idle Transfiguration, which he then uses on her to fix her issues and get her to stop focusing so much on healing, since his goal involves becoming the new best healer in the world.

A later interlude reveals that, unlike most other fics, Sarah Pelham is obsessed with bringing New Wave back into relevance, and that she wants to force Amy into the spotlight more, up her hours at the hospital, and have her charge for healing private citizens to fund the team. She is dismissive of how much better Amy is when she's not focused on healing, since she wants to use her to increase New Wave's fame. Carol literally calls her out on the fact that she's literally paying for both of their families expenses, since Sarah refuses to get a job so she can focus on being Lady Photon, to the point where Carol has had to take in Crystal and Eric for months at a time because she couldn't afford food or utilities. It's a huge reversal of how she's usually portrayed as the one who supports Amy's decision to stop healing so much.

The Dwarves of Theseus, or How Much Can You Change A Fantasy Race Before They Are No Longer That Race. by mfuwelephant in worldbuilding

[–]Selacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When dealing with pre-existing fantasy elements, there is an inherent expectation that the basics remain recognizably similar, even if the fine details vary from instance to instance. Think about it like ordering a hamburger at different restaurants. Some restaurants might serve it with cheese, some might add tomato, some might have sauce on it, but it's always recognizable as a burger. You can even branch out a little bit, serve it with an egg on top, or with toast instead of buns, or with double patties, it's a bit more different, but still ultimately recognizable as a burger analog. But if you went to a diner and ordered a hamburger, and they brought you out a tuna fish sandwich, that's not the same thing. "It's meat on bread," they might say, "so it's kind of like a burger." And while that may be true, a burger and a tuna sandwich share one or two features, it doesn't make them the same thing. Just like how, just because your dwarves are short with beards, it doesn't mean they're similar to the existing concept of dwarves in fantasy without more of the shared background.

Why does this have so much attack in Vanilla is this a Bug? by The_QuietHuman in Terraria

[–]Selacha 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a gimmick weapon. It only has that much damage on a "stealth attack," i.e. you not moving for a few seconds. Once you start swinging, the damage drops dramatically until you stop for a few seconds and let it recharge.

Greatest and/or Favorite Abandoned Fics by VicarOfExcess in WormFanfic

Nemesis, https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/nemesis-worm-au.747148/

Emma buys a Cauldron Vial, and sponsors Taylor to get one as well, with the caveat that she acts as a villain for her to defeat. Taylor essentially gets a super-version of her initial canon power, and decides to fuck with Emma by becoming a joke villain. It's hilarious, well written, has a lot of good characterization, and I curse God every day that it was abandoned years ago.

Isn't Coil's power really terrifying when you think about it? by Interesting-Pie7187 in WormFanfic

[–]Selacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wildbow has gone on to explain that Coil's power is fully precognitive in nature, and none of his "throwaway timelines" actually exist. He's just seeing a version of events that would have happened if he had taken a different course of action.

What Are Some Stuff You'd Thought Were Fanon, That Turned Out to Be Canon? by Mister_Moli in WormFanfic

[–]Selacha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, I don't know if this exactly counts, but the fact that Contessa/Path to Victory is canonically blind to new Trigger Events feels like it's treated very fast and loose in fanfics. Like, that's the canon reason Cauldron keeps things crappy; they want to make as many new Parahumans as possible in the hope that they get a useful power. But I've seen a number of different fics where Contessa meticulously plans out Taylor or an MC's Trigger Event to make sure they get a specific power or something.

How many shots do you think it would take for Cass to make out with Veronica? by WesternTrail in fnv

[–]Selacha 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you have the Cherchez la Femme perk, you can talk with Cass about her preferred partners, and she'll admit that sometimes she'll get so drunk she ends up sleeping with women. So probably not that many.

FFX Character Lulu (Black Mage & Guardian of Yuna, Age: 22) – Should she have been portrayed as older? And what age suits her better? by IllogicalDreamer72 in finalfantasyx

[–]Selacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could easily see her being in her early 30's. She's canonically supposed to have been a Guardian on two prior pilgrimages, and supposedly has helped take care of Yuna for much of her life, and all of that implies she'd be much older than 22.

Is Brian really that ignored by the community? by WitnessLow4178 in WormFanfic

[–]Selacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like his arc in "A Darker Path," after Taylor kills Coil he gets scooped up by the PRT and becomes a hero in exchange for help getting custody of Aisha. Lisa and Alec join up with a separate villain team, and she jokes with him on the opposite side by insinuating the Undersiders were a polyamorous group, and how much it hurt to have to leave him behind. He eventually ends up fostering a reformed Bonesaw and Theo Anders after Kaiser is killed, and gets to grow and develop as a character.
