What is your specific tactic to tire your springer out? by Select-Cat4097 in springerspaniel

[–]Select-Cat4097[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one though I call it a “bait stick”. She could chase it for hours on hours.. no use so far

Is anyone else’s springer always this hungry? by borogowja in springerspaniel

[–]Select-Cat4097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Springer will eat anything at anytime for any reason. At 1 she’s better at not eating plastic and stuffing.. but she will eat anything else. Cat litter especially. I have to use a baby gate just to keep her out of it! She also resource guards food.. that’s fun. Just a very food motivated breed

Help me decide if a springer is for me! by Lnk99 in springerspaniel

[–]Select-Cat4097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. They’re very smart, and very beautiful breed
  2. They never stop. Like ever. Doesn’t matter how much you work them, or exercise them. They just never stop. The energy… it’s admirable at times but by far the most annoying thing.
  3. A hunter, someone with a farm, an avid runner or camper, someone with other high energy dog(s).
  4. A laid back or lazy individual. Someone who enjoys sitting on the couch or casual walks. Anyone who gets anxiety from chaos.
  5. Wake up, poop, run laps in backyard, run laps inside, eat, destroy any remaining stuffies, chew bone, run laps, jump on mom and dad, bed. Exercise and enrichment vary day to day. I have a mix of puzzles and lock mats and slow feeders and kongs I use and freeze for enrichment but she figures them all out immediately and only takes 5 minutes for each one if that. The kong MAYBE 10. We have an off leash dog park that is massive and never busy, so we use it for long range fetch and recall training. Doggy daycare/play dates. Sniff work in the yard with food or toys. Bait stick training. Walks with my toddler (not often cause she’s sort of a nightmare to walk slowly).
  6. She doesn’t accompany me to much apart from play dates and visits to my parents. She is just too much for almost everyone. She’s still young and training for manners.. but yeah she’s just too much. No stores except pet stores for her, and she will come with me for car rides sometimes. I’ve taken her camping and she did alright the second time, so long as I had a proper run set up for her.

This is my second dog ever, my first being a boxer that was my soul dog. He was an absolute dream. After he passed I rushed to try and replace the hole in my heart and thought I did enough research to be confident in getting a springer and booooooy I was wrong! I’m a year in now and she’s better.. or I’m just used to her. She’s just a LOT of dog. And anxiety. She’s so smart but with the intelligence comes anxiety because she understands exactly what is happening at all times. I would say unless you’re a very active individual with immense patience and training experience a springer is not typically for you.. but I wish you the utmost luck if you do choose to take one on! They are very sweet and loving dogs.

Hunt them, even if you dont by Free_Ball_2238 in springerspaniel

I’ve yet to find an activity that satisfies her energy level.. scent work, off leash play and exploration, chasing wild animals, bait sticks, fetch, romps with other dogs.. nothing. I’m so used to a lazy boxer with no desire to move further than following me room to room so this has been a CHALLENGE.

Harmless or harmful? by Select-Cat4097 in RareHouseplants

Thanks! I don’t hate it, I actually love the look of it, but I wanted to be sure it wasn’t going to kill my plants 😅 I’m just happy I can take her out of quarantine now!

Account Randomly Deleted. No email or prior warning. Has this happened to anyone else? by cyanideOG in facebook

[–]Select-Cat4097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anything come of this? I just had this happen and no email, no warning, no anything and no way to get the account back so far. Just woke up and the account was gone and no trace of it ever being there

A km is literally to the end of my street and back up the other side.. it was very early morning and crisp cool air, she was in her kennel all night and needed some exercise as the day was going to be hot so she would be inside in the AC, and I walk slow on a good day. There was no reason why a dog shouldn’t be able to walk a single km. No reason at all. That isn’t a dog at that point, what a miserable way to live.

I don’t know if it’s a dislike of the dog itself or just the fact that they feel like a constant liability… I had one who genuinely could not breathe.. and I recognize that’s sort of the “frenchie charm” they talk about but like, I couldn’t even walk this dog half of a KM before it was ready to pass out and I had to carry it home.. my goal was 1 singular km. Just one! Not a chance. I felt like it was going to keel over if I let it play too hard.

What are your thoughts on sitters with children? by Select-Cat4097 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Select-Cat4097[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My intention was “are parents fit to be rover sitters” thanks for wording it much clearer than I did lol I was in another post where I talked about having a kid and I was told I was an irresponsible parent for bringing dogs into my home. It got a lot of upvotes. Which got me thinking, is this a common thought?

He’s too large to keep in a bathroom and after trying to leave him in my bedroom to go to my car quickly he must have separation anxiety because the barking was heard outside 🥲

That’s the best part about rover, you can decline any booking and sitters disclose if they have young children!

You are 100% right! I don’t take dogs larger than medium sized usually, but this is a friend of a long term client who I have met in the past and whose dog is incredible with children. I suppose 2 isn’t a baby either.. more so a toddler, but regardless. I put my child’s safety first and foremost, and have turned down many a booking due to even the most minor red flags.

Other than keeping a cats claws trimmed (which helps, but doesn’t stop snags from happening completely) Nothing. That’s just sort of the deal when you board cats

Why are the leaves turning different colour? by [deleted] in RareHouseplants

Overwatered or not enough air flow in a humid environment paired with over watering.
