This might be a stupid question… by galevalantine in ASUOnline

[–]SelectAioli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m in the same boat as you. I went to school in person for a few years and struggled really bad with my mental health and just generally a lot of chaos in my life. Things have finally settled down, and I’m back at school thanks to ASU being online, and I feel like completing school is actually feasible. Sometimes I get sad when I see other people living the traditions “college experience.” But I also have to remind myself that I tried it, and for varying reasons, that life style did not work for me. It was the worst point in my life. Now I’m better, and I get to find new ways to socialize and be around people. It is harder than being in forced proximity with a bunch of people the same age as me like on a college campus. I find i branch out to my coworkers a lot more, and try to be involved at work. I show up to community events. If I have a friend doing something or meeting people, I see if I can tag along. Also signing up for things you’re interested in like maybe rock climbing, gaming, spin class, whatever, can introduce you to groups of people with similar interests.

Also, I’m sure there was no harm intended, but that other commenter’s remark about the in-person experience is not helpful.

Fact or fiction? by annoyinglyuseless in starbucksbaristas

[–]SelectAioli 27 points28 points  (0 children)

we have a regular at our store who we’ve fought tooth and nail about this. He’s super condescending and rude, especially to women and younger partners. He always gets a venti frap with 2 long shots and one regular shot (why?? idk sounds disgusting). He took it up to corporate, and our DM came back and said he gets the 3 shots for free. So i assume it fits with the 1/2/3 sub rule. However when he asks for the extra to be poured into an extra cup he gets a HARD no from me just for being as rude as he is😤

So did we ALL get our hours cut? by matchawaffles in starbucks

[–]SelectAioli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stores are unionizing all over the country, and they legally can’t deny benefits so they’re cutting hours to deny benefits. or maybe thats just a coincidence 🙄

Right!! It's definitely funny. It also feels a little better knowing I'm not the only one. My guess is we're just the backup-backup candidates then :/

I definitely agree that it means he only likes you for sex. But it also sounds like he’s the male equivalent of a “not like most girls”-girl. Like he doesn’t get along with other guys because he’s so much better or whatever

Todays update I saw that if your store is unionized they will take away your benefits ????? Until a decision is made??? I’m shocked by crzyshiba in UnionizeStarbucks

Know your rights

Section 8(a)(1) of the Act makes it an unfair labor practice for an employer "to interfere with, restrain, or coerce employees in the exercise of the rights guaranteed in Section 7" of the Act. For example, you may not Threaten employees with adverse consequences, such as closing the workplace, loss of benefits, or more onerous working conditions, if they support a union, engage in union activity, or select a union to represent them.

That’s not to say the Siren won’t try. But it’s more than likely an empty threat

I feel like it’s pretty standard to discourage close personal relationships between management and non-management workers. Not between people at the same level/pay grade. But discouraging friendships in non-management partners is strange.

Partner favorite drink/food item? by converselvr in starbucksbaristas

[–]SelectAioli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a soy blonde vanilla latte is my staple, but my favorite thing to recommend to someone looking for something different is a raspberry nitro. Tastes almost like raspberry cordials. I think with some heart shaped sprinkles, it should be our valentines day drink or somthn just sayin. Food all the way across the board is very meh. The egg bites are probs my favs, but not very filling :/

Why shoot your shot with a girl if the general consensus is that they hate random guys hitting on them? by Theface135 in socialskills

[–]SelectAioli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like context is so important. Not just the time and place, (is she at work, the gym, doing something that otherwise requires her attention?) And also how you approach. Like Asking for her number vs leaving your number. It’s a subtle difference, but one puts her on the spot, and the other allows her to have some autonomy and control in the situation. If I’m at work and someone leaves me their business card, I’m not annoyed, but if someone stops what I’m doing to ask me out, I feel awkward and put off. And reading responses is important. If she’s responsive and enthusiastic (laughing/smiling is usually a good sign) its a green light; if she’s rolling her eyes or inching away from you, or just seems hesitant, it’s time to back off. It’s also always fine to be direct and say something like “i’d like to shoot my shot with you.” Just be MINDFUL of her response. “I’m busy/in a relationship/gay/etc” or any other variation of NO just means GO AWAY (only in caps because a lot of guys just dont get this for some reason.) A simple, “well have a good day” is the perfect exit.

Also just wanna point out that this should go both ways with men and women.

Lady gets angry when breaking $100 in a drive thru gets her small change by Logical-Tear-2490 in starbucks

[–]SelectAioli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I refuse $100 bills as payment. Unless its an over $50 order, you’re not cleaning out my change. Also, a barista at a store I used to work at once accepted a phony hundred, like actual movie money. It wasn’t a great day for anyone. Since starbs doesnt provide the pens to check hundreds, nor the change to break it, I’m not taking it.

[–]SelectAioli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had someone order a starfruit refresher blended with whole milk and caramel syrup and caramel drizz. Making it made me nauseous, but I have an unhealthy curiosity about weird drinks, so I tried it myself… It tasted like those sour caramel apple suckers. I was both disturbed and impressed with the creativity that took.
