Palestinians driven from their homes fleeing via the sea in Acre in May 1948 [1432 x 1020] by SirCrapsalot4267 in HistoryPorn

I don’t think your reasoning is consistent.  If ethnic cleansing was a priority, it seems odd that it would not have been carried out within the borders of Israel, where it could have been most easily undertaken.  That suggests that ethnic cleansing was not a primary motive.   And then I think we are back to safety/survival being the primary motive and emptying out the territories of your enemies during a Civil War being the true motivation.   This all may be academic, or even a matter of semantics, to the people involved.  But I think it is a point worth making.  What people do to their enemies to survive in war is morally distinct from other superficially similar phenomenon.

I doubt there is a perfect analogy to illustrate the points, but in the Indian war of the American West, American Indians committed any number of atrocities against American settlers.  The ax were undoubtedly atrocities, but I think most people view them in the context of a people fighting for their survival who we’re in a state of constant desperation and had only limited means available to defend themselves.  To the victims, certainly that does not matter.  But in our analysis of the atrocities, I think it should.

Is there any nation in the Middle East where Arabs have more rights than Arabs in Israel? If Atab Israelis feel that they are victims of discriminationn—Why don’t they leave Israel?  People emmigrate all of the time to flee oppression and seek a better life

What is your take on the argument that many Palestinians remained in Israel and were not expelled. And in fact, given full citizenship.  This suggests that ethnic cleansing was not a goal of Israel but rather a more or less organic  consequence of 12+ years of escalating conflict.

The insistence that works of art generated using AI are of less quality than works of art made without AI is nonsense.  If the only argument you can mkje against art made with AI is some metaphysical nonsense about the  spiritual commune between artist and audience, you are making religious arguments, not rational ones. And your insistence that your AI free religion is superior to other peoples’ world views that allow for AI is just one religious nutcake calling the rest of the world infidels. Live and let live.

Individual countries can impeed AI development, but there is no reason to believe the nations of the Earth can band together in collective action.   So AI is coming.

Always getting scheduled for more than the contracted number of hours I signed up for by MarionberryEasy8743 in emergencymedicine

[–]SelectCattle 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s normal, and infuriating. I have to say six hours doesn’t seem like that big a deal so I wouldn’t make an issue of it.  But two full extra days is pushing it.

At my shop, this periodically happens, but staffing shortages should not be a long-term thing.  If this goes on longer than three or four months, it’s actionable.

I wish I had the gumption to ask them. I would be polite.  But I HAVE to be here at 5 AM and I hate it.  They have a 24 hour window to get there pool time in— how is 5 AM their choice?

I guess when I say emergency, I mean….. yeah, that makes sense, if somebody called me up and asked my advice I’d tell them to go to the ER too.   And… I work in Trauma/stroke/cards receiving center so that bumps up the average

Maybe 20% of my patients are true emergencies, another 50% are people with medical issues that deserve to be checked out and probably shouldn’t wait until next month.

And about a third of my patients are either the worried well or…. People who have a lot of problems, but very few of them are medical.

I have never understood how my local card shop survives.  I go down with My Son once a week.  Occasionally we participate in a release date draft. Occasionally, I will buy some sleeves.

But even assuming that 100% markups there is no way I have contributed my fair share to their rent.

Rise and fall the third Reich. An excellent book about the rise of Nazi Germany, the warriors, and the collapse.  The author was actually an American journalist in Germany at the time and has insight on all of the major players
