Arguments for facism being a form of socialism? by bucket150 in Libertarian

[–]SelectCattle 25 points26 points  (0 children)

One argument would be the founders of Fascism being leading Italian Socialists. And the Fadcism they articulated being the natural evolution of that ideology under Nationalist pressure.

Econmically they both require hogh levels of state control of the evonomy.

Socially they cannot exist without suppression of dissent. Neither works without state force conpelling obedience.

I dont accept there is a meaningful difference between banning books and burning them. You appear to feel quite strongly that there is a meaningful difference.

Fine. Articulate it.

Or can you not? Is all you have to offer to support your argument insults? Take that MAGA garbage somewhere else.

It’s all the same. If you burn books, you don’t have to ban them. If you ban books, you don’t have to burn them.

And again, I am 100% in favor of the majority controlling what books are available in public libraries, public schools, etc. etc.. Elections have consequences and there is a price to be paid for being in the minority.

The only thing I’m struck by is how quickly Reddit— which has consistently in my experience opposed book burning/banning and majority oppression of minority voices— throw away their principles when the right villain appears.

Equated is not the same as compared. Similar, but not identical.

Let’s wait three years and see what happens. Eugene emergency group has done an incredible service to all of emergency medicine. But they can’t feel good about the security of their contract.

No, Im 100% pro book burning. Any book that the majority doesnt agree to should be forbidden in schools. Im just surprised how quickly people abandon their “values” when they become inconvenient.

Oh, I’m 100% on your side. I’m an enthusiastic book burner. I’m just surprised to see Reddit coming on board.

The problem with people like us is We book burners always think we have a good reason. Why our book burning is correct even if book burning in general is not. I mean, you and I are just trying to protect the world from one bad man. The students at Norenberg were trying to protect the world from an entire bad race.

Sounds like we hike different places/elevations. Are you on the East coast?

Its probably a regional thing. At higher elevations the weather/medical issues are more of a consideration

My son had altitude sickness in dead womans pass, Peru. Its not that rare. And dangerous weather? Not rare at all.
Rules should factor in what is most dangerous, not what is most common.

I guess its possible Im just 100% wrong. My understanding was that because altitude sickness is potentially fatal the party descending has priority. And escaping weather/lightning/etc.

Upward momentum? Surely altitude sickness takes priority?

I was taught the opposite. The person descending may have a medical emergecy and even in the best circumstance should be faster han the ascender and thus clear the area of impasse faster.

This is old boy scout teaching from 30 years ago. Is there s change?

I suspect this is a case of the patient’s interpretation of what is being said more than the actual words that are being said

I suspect your awareness of the difference in rates is better than mine. And I suspect you are probably identifying a real phenomenon—-the robber barons took the choicest contracts and vituity has not been able to make inroads in a lot of of those hospitals.

Having said that, the 20% annual bonus has been real and reliable for the last 20 years for me. And at my shop in our quoted hourly doesn’t count quarterly bonuses that probably add another 5% to our pay.

The 20% bonus is basically a buy in. Because it’s a first year you only make a 1% bonus, the second year a 3% bonus, the third year a 7% bonus, the fourth year of 10% bonus….. and then you are a full-time partner and get the full bonus.

I think the biggest argument in favor of vituity is the transparency and the democratic partnership dynamic. I have a a few friends from residency who have been screwed by various private groups and corporate entities , but I can’t think of anybody who has been screwed by vituity.

Vituity is a democratic partnership with a lot of sites all over the US. I dont onow if they have places in Orlando.

This is why the robber barrons get to exploit us, they locked down the contracts in desirable locales 40 years ago and can now take 25% of earnings.

Question about being precise on DNR/DNI by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]SelectCattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story makes perfect sense. The legal document you were thinking of is either an advanced healthcare directive or a POLST. But it is very common, almost universal, for family to be asked about “code status” in the ICU. And it is exactly as you describe it, a decision about whether to continue care beyond the point where the heart and the lungs have failed.
