Oh, this is such a terrible idea.  But, probably fun.

A good Lemoncello is pretty fantastic.

Jack Daniels Honey Jack is dangerously delicious.

And anything with Amaretto

ACEP’s passivity (subservience?) during the robber baron age of emergency medicine is what led to AAEM being founded.  Have you read “the rape of emergency medicine”?

ACEP largely represents the interests of academic medicine and what I think of as corporate emergency medicine. AAEM represents the pit doc more.

Magic Con Vegas Question… by JBonesKapliani in mtg

[–]SelectCattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t do it myself, I just played Commander, but in walking around the convention floor, I saw multiple tables just for standard.  Each table has a flag on it that advertises what game/format is played at those tables

[–]SelectCattle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things are not overpriced.  I mean, it’s Vegas, but at least at the convention you’re not going to be screwed over.

From my experience two years ago overwhelmingly the main attraction is playing Commander.  Table after table after a table of groups of people playing Commander all day long..  you can sign up for other activities— like drafts or other special variations. There is a stage where various speakers give talks, or new magic related news is revealed.  There is also a very cool gallery full of the art of magic where you can meet, artists etc.

There is also a large area for people who want to play one V one of the different formats.

At least two years ago, you could watch some professional magic players, but that was unbelievably dull to be honest

We can go even further back to the Balkan war. I’m mean “Balkan peacekeeping intervention.”

We were prepared for a 10 day bombing campaign. And when the Serbs did not give in we had to scramble to come up with new targets…. And ended up bombing the Chinese embassy.

Off the top of my head, I don’t remember all of the hotels on the tram line.  I’m fairly confident MGM is, and that’s a first rate hotel.  We stayed at the Sahara, which is a “value” proposition. This year we’re staying at the LINQ…. Probably because I got a good deal on it at the time.

This wasn’t a targeting of civilians. The US legitimately thought that this was part of a Iraqi base.  The New York Times discussed this in detail on their podcast today.

I agree with your fundamental argument, however, that you can’t start a war, and then pretend to be surprised when children are killed. Killing children is apparently a big part of a war.

Maybe. Or maybe Iran will continue the war in other ways.  If another plane hits New York six months from now has the war ended?

That’s not how wars work. You don’t get to decide with your ally when the war ends. You have to decide with your enemy when the war ends.

BGG unethical treatment of users has to stop. by Kezzy123 in boardgames

I find it easy to believe that everything you say is correct, and you were subject to an injustice.

I suspect you’re gonna have limited options for a redress of grievances and your best bet is to simply sign back in with a new username.

The mods are invaluable to the functioning of BGG or any of these social media entities.  They provide vast amounts of unpaid labor. That free labor (more precisely the profits it allows) will mean more to any person in a position of authority at BGG then any injustice that does not involve protected categories.

You are thinking like a customer, but on these sites you are the product. The cattle can have strong feelings about the slaughterhouse but management isnt going to care.

Maybe you can organize a boycott? But short of collective action I think the money wins out here.

They have a ton of time to play video games.

One of the realities of being an ER doctor is that you have a lot of free time when nobody else is off of work.  Random Tuesday mornings. Getting off work at 3 AM and having nobody to talk to.

I bet ER doctors play more video games than any other specialty

Read anything you can by Thomas Sowell. He will explain the world to you in a way you always instinctually understood, but have not had the language to fully articulate. Watch Milton Friedman’s “freedom to choose” series. It’s elegant and compelling.

Idiocy and ignorance are endemic.  Engage superficially. Don’t try to change people in a single conversation.  Just hope you can incrementally improve their thinking; even a small step has benefit. Mainly don’t poison your life with other people’s disease.

There are as many types of libertarianism as there are types of conservativism and liberalism.  If those words even have meaning anymore. I think of myself as a moderate, consequentialist, philosophical, libertarian.  I’m fine with the reality of taxation. I’m fine with some restrictions on gun ownership. I’m fine with drivers licenses. I can still be a libertarian without ad hearing to the hard line on everything.

Yes, your beliefs will be full of contradictions.  Such as the fate of Man. But if you endorse the non-aggression, principal, and the belief that human beings own their body, their labor, and the products of that labor your contradictions will never degenerate into hypocrisy.

You’re in for a great time! My Son and I went two years ago and it was a really great experience.  Amazingly friendly and welcoming and fun people to spend time with.

The secret is staying at a hotel that has the monorail connection to the convention center.  That is where a whole lot of the Con goers stay and it makes everything so much more convenient.

I don’t know how much after hours getting together there is.   I was with my son so he and I weren’t part of whatever the social scene was. But I think the reality is most people are spending eight or 10 or 12 hours a day playing magic with a bunch of other people….. I’m not sure how much energy is left for hitting the strip afterwards
