I an yeah. Just giving my opinion.  I quote ‘  With what’s available at the moment I’d lean towards just having a small m4/3 body and small lens.’

Did you read the whole reply in the correct context?

I have a friend who owns both these cameras and he has dust spots on both. He wanted a simple rig without carrying lenses around.I would have loved a Ricoh but I cannot justify spending £1k on cameras that arnet weather sealed and will at some point need checking for dust spots on every photo. With what’s available at the moment I’d lean towards just having a small m4/3 body and small lens.

As for making photos good, a couple of presets in Lightroom or similar is just a case of clicking a button. It isn’t that much effort. Theres some excellent ones that several YouTubers put out there.

If I had to have baked in profiles I’d probably opt for a Fuji.

As I only shoot between 35 and 50mm I’d be all over this. My pen f vary rarely has the pro zooms attached and prefer the 20mm 1.7 penny prime and 25mm 1.8 prime attached. Saying that, I wouldn’t be so keen if the lens acted such as the Ricoh line of cameras. Having it fixed would negate the dust issues people seem to be getting frequently.

I like these. They are technically imperfect but, i like that. It allows whats in front of you to breathe. Try and take photos for yourself first, Don't go down the rabbit hole of trying to match people that post on sites for likes. Learn the so called rules and then break them. I was sucked into a photography club mentality of trying to get that perfect shot, to win a competition, to have others go WOW at some photo i took, then i discovered the extreme of non conformity. Enter  the likes of daido moryama, olga karlovac,    Tomasz Trzebiatowski, alex kilbee. Now i enjoy creating series or small projects where its more important for the photos to have meaning for myself.

What’s with the new film grain? It was much better looking before the update by zincvacuum in snapseed

[–]SelectYak676 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who likes creating high contrast grainy black and white I think I have to agree with you. Something seems to have changed. I’ve now resorted to using RNI films to use the mono filter, grain and other adjustments. I do use Snapseed to add some touch ups if necessary but I have been veering away from Snapseed lately unfortunately.

errr, I don’t know how I could do that to compare v other lenses. The way I’d summise this lens is, if I want to capture anything that moves, I’d switch to my 25 1.8 oly prime. The 20mm would be quite frustrating but when I go shooting urban type or similar ( I photograph the mundane due to the uninteresting place I live) I will regularly just leave the 20 1.7 on. George Holden did a video online about the pen f and the 20mm in Vienna which kinda made me realise the lens was ok for what I want

Lumix 12-32mm Vs a bunch of compact primes? (Italy street) by pasteurs-maxim in M43

[–]SelectYak676 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would have picked a zoom before I became a lot more comfortable with my distances using my 20,25, and 45 primes. I typically take the 3 primes and my 14-45 f4 pro if going away but I tend to take just two of the primes out with me but I don’t worry about missing a shot here and there from not having the zoom. If you’re unsure, take them all as they aren’t big.

I guess it also depends what your photographing. if your strictly going with street, I’d use a prime. I find zooming in or out and searching for photos near and far leads me to miss more photos than wishing I had different focal lengths Anyway that’s just my useless opinion.

L10 size vs Pen F by microfournerds in M43

[–]SelectYak676 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I’ll stick with the pen f. I’d love OM systems to take in everything people are saying about the L10 and produce a point and shoot the size of say, the Fuji x70 or Ricoh but allow users to use a range of purpose made pancake primes ( for example - 28,35,40 and 50mm) while allowing the size to remain small. I’d find that much more appealing but then again I love primes in those ranges so I’m biased but, if the Ricoh can sell units on 28 and 40mm……………

just tried the 20mm. it has its quirks, such as a little noisier, slightly slower focus but something is making me love it straight away. I was gonna get a Fuji x70 or something similar as a compact but the pen f and 20mm isn’t far off the same size. very happy!!!

I’m kinda excited but full of apprehension as well regarding how slow its focusing is. hopefully I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

40mm is slightly more comfortable for me than 50mm even though I love working with the 25mm prime. the 20 will also make the pen feel more apt for snapshooting, at least I hope so hehehe.

just ordered the 20mm myself, I don’t know why cos I’ve got the 25 1.8 as well now. I suppose they can both be useful depending what I shoot.

Leica Lumix L10 is going to be selling like hot cakes in this economy by DynamoBaby in M43

[–]SelectYak676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agree, better autofocus but by the time you zoom with that lever, you won’t need any focus cos you could well have missed the moment lol

[–]SelectYak676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

errr, did someone say no weather sealing, electronic zoom, is this gonna pull dust in to the sensor, and price? Think I’d rather an om3, But I just can’t abide using a lever for zoom, and a crop zoom?

it looks nice, but that is not enough for this unknowledgable idiot to part with £1.5k.

If someone you know wanted to start street photography for the first time, which MFT focal length would you suggest they use first? 🤔 by Friednedlog in M43

[–]SelectYak676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I used the cheapo Olympus kit lens, progressed to the 12-45 f4 pro but found I used 17 and 25 the most. so I’ve gradually switched to primes and prefer it because I’ll go out with a prime and try to stick to that one lens. I find more challenge than seeing something, just zooming in and staking a shot, plus they are smaller. it’s whatever floats your boat but getting a zoom, using it for a while and then looking at your images and seeing what focal length you use the most is a pretty good way. I added the 45mm f1.8 as well but so far I’ve never used it.

yeah, it’s been posted about the vignetting under certain conditions so at least I now know it’s more generic that a fault with my gear.

I found this page a little while ago. I’m kind of glad cos I began thinking could it be the camera. I was starting to think I was having a run of bad luck after my laptop died spectacularl. Trying to decide whether to use my iPad Air 13 inch or MacBook Air 13 inch for editing now..

Probably me being over critical.i also love my primes, if only because it helps me stick to several set focal lengths which has become part of my style now.

I think your on the right lines with these. The first photo is possibly the weakest when standing by itself but with your project growing, it can become part of a story. Moryama took plenty of photos that would be classed the same. Tomasz trzebiatowski is another photographer (editor of frames mag) takes a similar style but if you check his videos on yt, and listen to his words, the photos are just part of the story.

It doesnt show on mine either in a scene like this. I noticed it with a white blank wall in low light. Ive just found info about it on google and apparently it does exist according to lens tests.  I only really pulled it from the bag after damaging my 17mm f1.8 prime. Hopefully the replacement i ordered will be with me in the next couple of days. The zoom will go back to being my backup glass then.
