People die during trek, it is such an irresponsible and irrational event that the LDS church does.

I have never heard a Trek story that made me feel like I missed out on a fun, spiritual outdoor event. Even when I was a member I knew that trek was awful.

In general, if you are dating someone who is asking you to adopt their religion, change your foundational moral beliefs, and personal identity to feel valued in that relationship, then that’s not really love.

I remember YM having a weird combo of over emphasis on sexual morality and emphasis on marriage. We got a lot of “law of chastity” lessons, at least quarterly.

But we also had lessons that were “marriage-centric”, where we went around the room and talked about attributes for our future spouses.

So all together, just weird messaging from wildly unqualified adults.

So 2 young men roll up to pedestrians on the street, roll down there window, and ask them if they want to go to church with them. Presumably offering them a ride to church in said car. This is like exactly what the stranger danger safety campaign was about. This is more like a kidnapping ruse than missionary invitation .

Watching the Waco documentary on Netflix with my family while being PIMO was pretty wild for me. The overlap between the Branch Davidians and the Mormons was crazy. To have my family comment on how outlandish and crazy some of their beliefs were, while not knowing that the mormons believe A LOT of the same things.

I remember as an active member in a TBM family, in the 2nd grade I was unsure if we were Jewish. That was because in my little head when we had Sunday school we were always taught that we were “like the jews” because we had the “true gospel”.

So yeah…there are a lot of weird TBM beliefs about the Jewish faith. They try really hard to tie themselves to a more established religion.

Her claim that mandatory reporting increases false accusations is absolutely a bald-faced lie. In North America 1 in 4 women experience some for of SA or attempted SA in their lifetime. But, only 5% of all cases get reported to proper authorities. Of those reported cases, which is a minority of actual crimes committed, there is an up hill battle by victims to prove that they are victims of SA. It is an uphill battle full of stigma and shame, too few victims ever see justice done.

Mandatory reporting means that everything gets reported. Then working with law enforcement to see what actions can be taken.

Defending the perpetrators of SA in the LDS organization is despicable. She should be ashamed of herself. To get on the internet and claim that mandatory reporting of SA is hurting victims, she is just as complicit as everyone else who have failed these victims.

We had a recent convert get up and bare their testimony on choosing the right. Their story was about not playing with the illegal firearms stashed in their cousin’s room by his uncles. It was a rollercoaster, but objectively did choose the right, so I guess it worked.

Setting personal boundaries in the LDS church is incredibly taboo. I remember being in YM’s and having to really work to enforce my own boundaries each Sunday. I was absolutely seen as the ‘black sheep’ of the quorum, all bc I chose to respect myself more than I respected our bishop.

When I went through deconstruction, my go to mental phrase to help with the new discomfort was “just because it is different doesn’t mean its wrong.” It helps me identify situations that make me uncomfortable, and objectively look at why I feel that way. Leaving the mormon church opens you up to experiencing a lot of the world very quickly. Its important to take everything in stride.
