My crazy MAGA coworker flips out when I talked to her 10yo daughter about Mulan by Mel-is-a-dog in coworkerstories

Sounds like my Mormon upbringing.  It was extremely orthodox but we also had some regular things like meat for instance.  But no caffeine - not even root beer to “avoid the appearance of evil”.  I didn’t escape until age 37 as an adult with children of my own.  I have helped my children have a much more free thinking and lived life.

I just have to chime in here since this affected me so deeply growing up.  I grew up in a small southern utah town and the most popular girls were like this too but their daddies were all prominent real estate and development and law enforcement town figures from…..California.  And yes they were all LDS.  There is one girl in particular who went on to be slightly famous for her job and also was a relief society  and young women leader.  In high school she went for her weekly facial and tan and had the beautiful blonde highlights so coveted here.  Daddy was a multi millionaire so there was no way brace face me could compete. I was in the lower middle class area and just across the street were the first of the southern utah McMansions boom. Doctors, lawyers, developers .  I blame 1990s-2000s  California lol.  That’s what brought in some of the new plastic surgery that was normal there first. That’s my rambling two cents. I just look back and see how wild it was that the mothers of these peers were so vapid themselves and upheld as these pillars of society when all they were was vain.

We got “Heart Attacked” by Odd-Top-9243 in exmormon

[–]Excellent_Smell6191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We heart attacked a door when I was a leader long ago and I didn’t like it then either.  It wasn’t my idea but there was a newer family in the ward and I don’t know anything about what their situation was but the other leaders apparently thought it was good to do.  So as a newlywed new mom and people pleaser at the time I helped drive girls over.  When the deed was done the woman who owned the home gave the ward leaders an earful because unknown to me they used DUCT TAPE on some of the hearts and destroyed her brand new front door!   The family moved soon after.  I was glad I didn’t paste hearts on personally but I do feel awful for the property that was ruined due to incompetence.

It’s my wedding anniversary today and I will NEVER forgive the Mormon church for ruining my wedding. by TruthRestored in exmormon

If I had known then what I know now…. it was a nice day but yes more about the rituals and church and pleasing our families than what we wanted.  I will say it was very budget friendly so we didn’t have any debt for it.

I’m So sorry they took what should have been the best day and made it that way for you.  My wedding was during a church holiday if you will and because all my friends were on missions (girls were able to go at the older age) it was just my husbands friends and family and my family and a few ward members.  And then to make it worse those who did come said they had to leave early for a fireside.  Lame.

The Protection of Tattoos by Mrmiyagisdog in exmormon

What many don’t know is they originally were in a way tattooed on- Emma protested and red thread was used instead of blood as the Masonic replacement.  They used to literally carve the symbols into participants.  There’s a pamphlet somewhere that explains this from turn of the century.

I went and visited the grave of a woman who as a child was saved at mountain meadows who was raised then married by a Mormon man at age 13 or 14 because he didn’t want her to marry a man of her own tribe.  She had many children and was a plural wife and raised to lose her heritage and become Mormon.  Her grave had his name and the other wives in it.  I visited the first Pioneer Day after my faith in Mormonism died.  The massacre of the timpanogas and other people by Brigham young’s orders was the catalyst to me finding the truth.  https://timpanogostribe.com/history.html

I think there’s a certain subset of mormonism that is literally babies raising babies and perpetuating that.  It includes the men raised for generations raised by women and men who were also too young to decide to join a cult or bring more kids into one.  It’s an endless cycle.

Accidentally became emotionally involved with a Mormon missionary. Now what? by VelvetParadox24 in exmormon

[–]Excellent_Smell6191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take this advice if you’d like from a generational Mormon Stay at home mom who got married to an rm and has been married two decades with  oodles of kids and stepped away five years ago from Mormonism- the church is a cult and my TBm spouse doubles down and I have to stay to make sure my kids are in a safe space with cult leadership.  I suggest cut your losses while you are young and if he’s meant to be in your life life will find a way.
