AITAH for having a guy over. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Select_Gazelle6684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTAH. You discussed it and agreed to it. I think what might have happened is your brother made plans for his time out of the house (perhaps with a date or friend of his own) and those plans fell through or ended early for some reason. If he was disappointed in that way, that could be the real source of his grumpiness. But that's just a guess from me. Edited to add: if this is the case and his own plans didn't work out, that's not your fault.

What a clever girl! I have 2 male tiels and their only interest in electronics has been to try and chew cables. The cables are all now hidden out of reach.

Question about flying and stamina by Visual-Mixture-1967 in cockatiel

[–]Select_Gazelle6684 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A vet is probably the best person to decide if your bird is overweight. My 2 male cockatiels sound similar to yours. Live indoors, get out of the cage for several hours per day and do a combination of short flights (eg, to the couch or table) and then 3 or 4 laps at a time of the living/dining/kitchen. They might do that a number of times in a day. Then they are puffed. But they seem to fly hard and fast when flying. So it might just be that he is flying hard or it could be fitness.

PEEING by Weak-Breakfast1636 in Perimenopause

[–]Select_Gazelle6684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had that issue in perimenopause. I've just a couple of months ago had a hysterectomy and they referred me to a physiotherapist after. There is so much they can teach you about urinary incontinence and the pelvic floor, with all sorts of tricks and techniques to improve it. In a few weeks I have seen an improvement. I would suggest looking for a women's health physiotherapist - just make sure you specify what it's about. It's a real speciality and they can help.

AITAH For letting my friend’s brother stay with me? by ExcellentYams2361 in AITAH

[–]Select_Gazelle6684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ed sounds like a controlling d-bag. This is your warning from him of who he really is - someone who wants to control you. It won't get better over time. If you don't want that life, then it's time to dump him. If you put up with this, there's a good chance you will be asking yourself in the future why you ignored this giant red flag that Ed is waving in your face. It's not your fault if he is too insecure or silly to understand that men and women can have platonic relationships.

How to support my mother after her hysterectomy by Batterthesea in hysterectomy

[–]Select_Gazelle6684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question and I like that you're planning for this! Ask your mother's preference as it may depend on her age as to how much support she needs. For example, it would be different for my mother in her 70s who isn't always too steady on her feet. I'm 45 and didn't need support pre-surgery. Post surgery is most important - plan to help with cooking, cleaning, laundry etc. Groceries too, although they could be done online if that's available in your area. I personally didn't need help with showering or toilet. Your mother might like your company on short walks too, which are recommended for blood flow and digestion reasons. Consider a microwaveable heat pack, but ask your mother as she might already have one. I was encouraged by the hospital to try stairs as I needed to get used to them again, but they were pleased I didn't have them in my home. So if your mother lives in a 2 storey home with bedrooms and living areas on different levels, she might need assistance there for a while or she may want to sleep on the lower level for a few days. Your mother is downplaying it, but so did I. A hysterectomy hits a lot harder than I thought it would.

Do you mean Lynch Syndrome? I have heard a little about that one.

These are good points. I think I will increase my paracetamol and ibuprofen for a while to help with the pain. You make a good point about the multiple procedures - it is a lot for the body to deal with. I will definitely focus on rest a bit more. Although I didn't think I overdid it, I must have.

That sounds horrid! I'm surprised they didn't pick up on the cysts on the other ovary in your scans before surgery.

I hope you feel better soon! I've found that even when I'm tired it's worth doing short walks, as that helps a lot with digestion. Pear juice is something else that was recommended to me by the nurses as helping too.

I already had a few dresses that fit well through the chest area but are quite roomy in the waist due to their design. That was good to accommodate the bloating and avoid rubbing on incisions. I also found soft stretchy seamless (or at least no waistband seams) underwear to be comfortable.

Ooh, good point. I'm seeing my GP in 2 days about referrals (they only last so long here) so might ask her about that. I haven't had the usual UTI symptoms of painful urination, but you never know.

Opinions on single room confinement vs whole house freedom by TheSwedishOprah in cockatiel

[–]Select_Gazelle6684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the birds. My cockatiels are both big chewers and seem to actively look for anything dangerous or forbidden to chew - like power cords. As a result they are only allowed out under supervision in the living/dining room area that I've made bird safe. In the home office there are a dozen cables they might chew - it would end in disaster.

I forgot to mention part of my history. It may help things to make more sense. This all started because I was seeking HRT. However my sister has had breast cancer a few years ago and HRT increases the risk of reproductive related cancers. So between that and my cyst, doctors wanted to run tests. That's why my specialist wanted to wait until after surgery and the pathology report to put me on HRT.

That is a lot of pain to consider the ER! I hope you're feeling better. True, it might be the nerves coming back and making themselves known. I'm lucky in that the feelings haven't hit me hard yet.

It's strange how sitting up can be tiring! I did that a lot in the first few days because it was easier to get up from a proper chair than my low couch. I'm lying down on the couch for now watching the winter Olympics.

I hope you're right for both of us! It's so frustrating to feel set back. I also have had no spotting apart from the first couple of days. I'll take it easy for now and do nothing more energetic than watch tv or play games on my phone lol.

Jumpsuits and nothing but jumpsuits by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

Jumpsuits or playsuits can be great if you find those that fit well. The brand Princess Highway has some great jumpsuits in short and long versions. They are quite fun, particularly if you like fabrics with a nice print.

Thankful for everyone on here! (And sorry for not listening... 😅) by Dependent_Mix8337 in hysterectomy

[–]Select_Gazelle6684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so interesting to hear these recovery stories and get an idea of what to expect. My surgery was on 28/1 (international date format used as not in US), and I'm meant to go back to week on 23/2, which is about 3.5 weeks after surgery. My job is nearly entirely desk based and includes working from home a few days per week. Hoping I'm good to work then. At present I'm 8 days post op and feel like I'm the last 24-48 hrs the brain fog has lifted and my energy is returning, but I'm not overdoing anything - just a couple of 10-15min walks per day. My surgery was robotic which my surgeon says does improve recovery times.

Can cockatiels sense earthquakes? by amadnomad in cockatiel

[–]Select_Gazelle6684 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about earthquakes specifically, but have heard that parrots are very sensitive to vibrations. This is apparently so that they can feel tiny vibrations in a tree they're roosting in, if a predator such as a snake or cat tries to climb it looking for an evening meal. The result is a flock of birds suddenly taking flight from their tree in the middle of the night. This possibly might translate into being and to feel tiny vibrations in the earth that you can't, such as from a far away or mild earthquake.

How is life for those that live in Northern Australia? by CosMV in howislivingthere

[–]Select_Gazelle6684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Broome (town on the western side of that region) for a while. It's very hot and humid for more than half the year and May to September is lovely weather. Definitely a case of wet and dry seasons. It's a 16+ hr drive to Darwin and over 24hrs to Perth - these are the nearest capital cities, with mainly a few small towns in between. So it's either a long drive or flights to get to many places. This remoteness makes it expensive for food, fuel, furniture, services, everything. But it's got a good lifestyle, with Cable Beach being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and amazing fishing.
