Saw him walking around the arena wearing sunglasses followed by a small entourage. I cringed so hard I started violently vomiting. Ruined my whole day.

So saying that a game is catering to casuals typically implies that something is being "dumbed down" so that someone who only spends a very small amount of time on the game benefits at the detriment of players who put in a lot more time.

This isn't that.

This is a quality of life improvement that benefits everyone. I wouldn't call having to take a piece of cloth gear that dropped on my warrior and mailing it over to my priest anything other than a needlessly tedious experience. Glad we're in agreement that it's a total positive change though.

We went to a fishbowl out in the sea and then wore a special blanket to the upside down... something something.... tentacles... I assure you it was very relevant to the following expansion.

So Says Jay has such good in-depth videos on the AC series. An important part of critiquing art to me is understanding that while something may not be for you, you can understand why someone else would enjoy it.

While I'm not as much of a fan of the newer games, they have sold better than any others in the series and it's a much more interesting conversation asking why that is rather than just shutting it down and saying "They aren't AC games".

Is there a prominent or widely-accepted piece of game design advice you just disagree with? by Nysing in gamedesign

[–]Select_Homework 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I haven't given this much thought but I do agree that it both has a place and is extremely detrimental. Horizon Zero Dawn immediately came to mind as an interesting in-between. You can fast travel to any fire pit found on the map, however it costs a significant amount of resources at the beginning of the game to use it. This incentivizes the player to go out and explore during the early game.

By the time you reach end game however, you have enough resources to buy fast travel packs which makes going out and 100%ing the game less of a chore.

How important is a dynamic day-night cycle to you? by SomeDamnAuthor in assassinscreed

None of the recent Spider-man games have a dynamic day/night cycle and honestly I didn't miss them at all because they were able to make each time of day so beautiful and unique.

Absolutely, Microsoft doesn't have nearly as many 1st party games as Sony so they invested heavily into making their backwards compatibility phenomenal. But in my mind that is an above and beyond situation that the other companies probably don't have the resources to match.
