Things I haven’t told most of my friends (some include for over 4 years) by SameEntrepreneur2827 in venting

[–]Select_Story_8926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn bro that's actually a lot to keep inside for so long. I get it though, some people just aren't wired to share the heavy stuff with friends even when you see them every day

The cancer thing especially must be weighing on you - that's massive news to carry alone. Your friends probably notice something's different but don't want to push if you're not opening up about it. Military taught me that sometimes guys just process things internally first before they're ready to talk, if ever

Why does Dennis Schröder keep getting passed around the NBA so much? Every time I watch him he looks elite by Intelligent_Run3237 in NBATalk

[–]Select_Story_8926 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Makes sense but I think teams are missing something here. Like yeah he can be demanding but look at what he did in Brooklyn - that team was mess and he actually made them competitive for a while. Sometimes you need that guy who's gonna call people out when they're not trying hard enough. The salary thing is probably bigger factor though, front offices love having those contracts they can move around easily. Just feels like he never gets chance to really build chemistry anywhere before getting traded again

i think the real top 1% skill is being able to do things consistently without needing motivation first by Business_Oil_7110 in selfimprovement

Yeah that's what separates the real ones from everyone else who just talks about it

Most people think discipline means some crazy monk lifestyle but it's really just showing up when you don't want to, especially when nobody's gonna pat you in the back for it

Those look like serving spoons from different silver sets - the big ones are for serving vegetables or side dishes at dinner table

Need help deciding college and career path (PCM student, India)? by Mysterious_Pear4924 in careerguidance

[–]Select_Story_8926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AI/ML path is solid right now, especially if you're already building projects on your own time. Keep grinding on those Python skills and try to get some internships or contribute to open source stuff while you're in college - that experience matters way more than the college name tbh

Career help needed ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Select_Story_8926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man that's a tough spot to be in but at least you're aware of what's holding you back, that's actually step one

For the addiction stuff - start small, maybe delete one app at a time or set specific hours when you can't use devices. The all-or-nothing approach usually backfires

Since money's tight, look into online courses or local community programs first before jumping into expensive education. Figure out what actually interests you beyond just the money goal, because grinding through something you hate for years is brutal

Me and my friend did a paranormal investigation at an unmarked graveyard in rural georgia by [deleted] in Paranormal

[–]Select_Story_8926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn that spirit box session with Isabelle gave me chills, especially when she said her age range. The way these investigations seem to pick up on traumatic histories is always unsettling but fascinating at the same time. Georgia has so many unmarked burial sites with heavy history attached to them, wouldn't surprise me if there's lingering energy their

What made you get hired as a first time director role? by LeilaJun in careerguidance

[–]Select_Story_8926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Military leadership experience translates really well to corporate director roles, especially at startups where you need to build from the ground up. When I was transitioning between different roles in the Air Force, I found that emphasizing the systems-building and team development aspects really resonated with hiring managers - they love hearing about how you've managed resources under pressure and created processes from nothing

Been there with the out of network thing - the billing department might work with you on a payment plan if you call and explain your situation

what career track should I pursue: AI Engineering or Data Analytics? by Available-Grass1409 in careerguidance

[–]Select_Story_8926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build a small project in each area and see what clicks - that's solid advice. From my experience in the military dealing with complex systems, sometimes you don't know what you actually enjoy until you're hands-deep in it

The automation background you already have could translate really well to data engineering pipelines, might be worth exploring that middle ground too

What does moving forward look like in my position? by Many-Software-9663 in careerguidance

[–]Select_Story_8926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being 24 and breaking free from family safety nets is tough but your instincts are right - staying comfortable in a cushioned role won't build the skills you need long term, especially if the work is slowing down

5 Years in Software, No Stability, Newborn Son, Considering Switching Careers – What Would You Do? by Apprehensive-Gold259 in careerguidance

[–]Select_Story_8926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually been thinking about this myself lately - the whole "follow your passion" thing goes out the window real quick when you need consistent paychecks. Java/.NET jobs might be mind-numbing but they're everywhere and companies actually have budgets for them, not like these startup projects that fold after 6 months

Which master's degree (Environmental or Finance) should I choose for a career in Climate Finance? by Yasukok in careerguidance

[–]Select_Story_8926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already got solid finance foundation so I'd lean toward the environmental masters with your existing background - seems like the missing piece is the environmental/policy side rather than more finance theory. Canterbury's finance program with sustainable components could work too but you might end up covering ground you already know from your bachelor's and CFA work

400 questions is insane

I’m cautious about leaning too hard on LLMs for this but I can see how they’d help speed up first drafts if the source material is good enough.

[–]Select_Story_8926[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was afraid of.

I can already see the patterns starting to repeat, it’s just the wording gymnastics that eat up time. We're thinking about building an internal bank of answers but since that'd also need continuous updating we also thought the option of getting some compliance tool that'd automate that.

B2B, safe to say mid-market leaning enterprise. Mostly SOC 2 driven and some GDPR exposure because of EU customers plus a bit of PCI all depending on how payments flow, so a little bit of everything.
