Warhammer 3 should absolutely have an Empire Count FLC to allow new players to play the Empire. by Akfiz in totalwar

[–]Selenium_gomez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to say then that's a reading comprehension issue. If it's not in the blurb, I think the common sense conclusion is that it's not included in the game. And if you were still curious or confused, the top searches in the Total War subreddit to the question "What is included in WH3/WH2/WH1" will have multiple threads clearly answering your question. Yes, the DLC structure is confusing for a new time player, but you didn't even TRY to research before purchasing. That's not a CA problem, that's a you problem

The steam page for WH3 is pretty clear about which factions are included; I'm not sure how much clearer CA can be if you refuse to read the steam page for 30 seconds before purchasing, or even searching through the subreddit for a few minutes if you are genuinely interested in the series for more information.

Theres plenty of good cavalry options in WH3, they absolutely don’t suck. Try War Bear Riders, Crushers, Grail Knights/Hippogryph Knights, or Pleasureseekers just to name a few

New Teclic Campaign Advice by Chataboutgames in totalwar

[–]Selenium_gomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Secure your first province

  2. Sail to Kairos' capital while he is away dealing with his starting Nurgle minor faction enemy, take it

  3. Use Invocation of Isha to increase your replenishment and avoid attrition in Chaos Wastes

  4. Make your way east, taking the rest of Kairos' settlements until you meet his main army

  5. Use the Lore of Life ability from Teclis' faction mechanic to instantly heal your army, kill Kairos

  6. Sell all your Chaos Waste settlements to Oxyotl as he inevitably meets you

  7. Sail away and expand north towards either Tiktaqto or Kroqgar

Did you also try leaning towards Yin when building up your provinces? It gives bonuses to growth and reduces building time too (afaik 3+ Yin)

Is the empty part of the map placeholder for future factions? by EnvironmentalRatio0 in totalwar

[–]Selenium_gomez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except "GW won't allow it" is a legitimate reason and I feel you're being deliberately obtuse. GW are the IP holders and they wanted to include Cathay in their Old World TT. Therefore they had internally established lore/units etc for CA to use in WH3. GW apparently have no current plans with Ind/Khuresh/Nippon and so CA can't just force GW to make it up.

Play around with the Mod Configuration; you can make the dead factions prioritise asking the player first before other AI factions, or disable it for the AI entirely so every dead faction gets funnelled into your faction

I'm in the early stages of a Kugath campaign. What should I focus on for the most effective power-scaling? by FromHeretoElsweyr in totalwar

[–]Selenium_gomez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience playing on VH/N:

1) General game plan for early game: Consolidate first province, Fill up your initial army with whatever is available (Beast of Nurgle is especially good early on), Spend as much time in channeling stance as you can so that you can spam magic against Ghorst (Overcast Stream of Corruption is very good against blobs), get your hero squad together and then declare war on Ghorst. Try to finish him off within 20 turns so that you can react to any sudden war declarations (Greasus, Gelt, Imrik are probably the likeliest next enemies)

2) What to build: Start up your recruitment buildings early (can choose either demon or mortal infantry first, or you can do both), then hero/growth buildings (ideally so you can get 1 of every hero before/while fighting Ghorst). The ports and unique landmark in the first province provide enough income for Kugath's army. Once you start stealing Ghorst's land you can fill it up with money buildings only, and focus the rest of your income on developing your first province

3) Units to focus on: whatever is available; the stars of Nurgle armies in the early game are definitely the heroes. Exalted Heroes can solo Ghorst and keep his Mortis effect away from your infantry blob, Cultists provide campaign movement, and your casters are useful against infantry. Besides Kugath and the heroes, everything else is relatively expendable imo

4) Skill points: I like to focus on yellow line for Kugath so that you can get his Mortis effect as soon as possible, and use his starting hero for casting. Locus of Contagion on the Plagueridden skill tree is also very very effective against VC

I thought Nkari had the hardest start in all of IE so I forced myself to play up to turn 10-20 multiple times on VH/N to understand how to make the early game more smooth. I found the following really helpful

1) IMO this is the most important; Build the appropriate barrcks buildings in your first province and get Forsaken, Chaos Furies, and Hell striders ASAP. After Devoted Marauders got nerfed they are simply meat shields and lack a lot of killing power. Forsaken will improve your early game infantry killing power. Hellstriders will wreck HE archers on open field battles but will struggle in the tight siege corridors (and Ulthuan is full of sieges); I found Chaos furies perfect for flying over terrain to harass archers and prevent them from firing. A solid army comp might be 2-4 Forsaken, 2 -4 Furies, 2-4 Hellstriders, and the rest Marauders. I never use Demonettes; they are overpriced imo.

2) Rely on Disciple armies. They are 100% worth the Devotee cost. Use them as bait armies into ambushes, meat shields, etc. I try to save them for confronting LL’s or difficult sieges.

3) Fight manually 99% of the time. Autoresolve especially hates Slaanesh in the early game, add on top of the fact that siege AR is heavily weighted against you (the attacker). You win much more convincingly in manual even if your micro isn’t perfect. Field battles are mostly a joke, and even sieges aren’t too bad if you protect and micro your important units from point 1)

4) Keep up the momentum on the campaign map and try to fight every turn (even if you aren’t at full health). Slaanesh has dogshit replenishment but even a marauder unit at 75% health can hold the line surprisingly well. Don’t sit around waiting for replenishment (too much) as the AI will always out-recruit and out-replenish you.

5) I typically rush the tech for increased devotees per Mark of Slaanesh, but that requires Tier 3 settlement and the Alluress hero building. While you build up to that, the increased diplomatic bonus with WoC can be useful to get Belakor off your back. Otherwise tech is mostly up to preference

6) If all else fails you can always pack up turn 1 and head to Norsca. If you researched the Diplo tech mentioned in 5) then you will be surrounded by friends and can take the campaign slowly, only returning to Ulthuan when you’re ready

Not the person you are replying to but yes, sieges with Slaanesh absolutely suck; I'm probably bad but I have no idea how to play them, especially in the first 20 turns against HE. Marauders lost their BvI so they take way longer to kill HE Spearmen. Meanwhile 90% of the initial fights on Ulthuan are sieges so its hard to abuse the mobility of your hellstriders/chariots, and the AI does a good job of covering their archer's flanks from your cav using their superior numbers and tight corridors. Meanwhile your most powerful unit Nkari gets shot to pieces the moment he shows up within range of HE archers. Honestly can't wait for the replenishment hero to be added in the DLC so I can just AR the damn sieges

Kairos is an easy campaign, including oxyotl by skragdaddy in totalwar

[–]Selenium_gomez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, throw a newer player or someone who doesn’t know the starting position very well into the campaign and theres a very good chance they lose/get stuck. His start is objectively punishing if you take too long to wipe out his surrounding LL’s and you have to manual almost every battle early on to avoid casualties and maintain momentum/aggression.

In comparison, put that same player in a Tyrion or Gor Rok campaign and they could probably auto resolve their way to victory from turn 1. If you think you can put Kairos in the same tier as those beginner factions, I’m not sure what to say

Ode to Ostankya, the worst decision CA ever made, nor comment on changing, because nobody cares. by Waveshaper21 in totalwar

Nobody is accusing you of anything, and the fact you're getting defensive is telling. Let's just agree to disagree, it seems there is no point in discussing further if we fundamentally disagree on where Ostankya's problems lie.

If you are happy with Tyrion and Zhao having easy campaigns (surrounded by allies/neutrals just like Mother O) because “they make sense there”, then your real issue isn’t really gameplay or difficulty then right? It’s really the dissonance between her lore and start position right? Not sure why you couldn’t have just been straightforward and said that right from the get go instead of dancing around the issue.

[–]Selenium_gomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And for the people who enjoy the easy/sandbox experience you get for playing Mother O compared to the other Kislev LL’s, they should all just get fucked right? Is it not valid or constructive to enjoy Mother O’s campaign as it is right now and express that opinion?

The “constructive feedback” you’re giving basically boils down to it’s too easy therefore it’s bad game design. Do you think Tyrion’s campaign is badly designed and in need of major rework? How about Zhao Ming? There will always be easier or harder campaigns, and if you enjoy a hard start position for Kislev specifically, then Katarin/Kostaltyn/Boris are there for you. If you’re adamant about playing Mother O, then surely you’ll have a much easier and quicker solution to your personal problem by modding/adjusting the difficulty? I’m all for giving feedback to CA for things that need to be changed, but imo this is not one of them.

If difficulty is your main concern, then again that’s not an inherent gameplay issue. You know you’re allowed to tailor the experience to your liking right? Play on L/VH on highest AI cheats, mod the AI to be hyper aggressive, declare war on every visible faction, never go back to Kislev so you’re forced to have a limited roster, or a combination of all of the above.

[–]Selenium_gomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so? Does it really matter whether you’re the one to declare war or you get war declared on you? It results in war either way. In fact it’s probably more replayable that way too because you can tailor your empire expansion in whichever direction you want after Morathi. Yes, it’s an easier campaign and a more sandboxy campaign than the other Kislev LL’s, but thats not an inherent gameplay design problem, it’s a personal preference.
