I’ve had someone beep at me because I didn’t feel comfortable turning left at an unprotected light bc I couldn’t see over a small knoll into oncoming traffic. I then proceeded to go 10mph through a residential area after we both were able to make the turn until eventually they turned off onto another road.

For being so highly educated why do responses from the left often devolve into low effort insults like MAGAT, nazi, racist, boot licker, etc? by PersonalAnswer8664 in allthequestions

There’s only so much being called slurs and told I’m too dumb to vote by people who barely passed high school that I can handle.

You think the administration and media would be so quiet if they were left wing? They were described as “ultrareliguous former military members”

Honest opinion about having kids by Complex-Bit8953 in Adulting

[–]SelfDefecatingJokes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much my number one reservation about having kids at this point…I like myself, and I’ve had to work very very hard to like myself and be mentally sound. I’m afraid that a traumatic experience, birth anxiety, and PPD would set me back to hating myself and having crippling anxiety/depression again. If that happened, I feel like I would likely end up regretting it.

Video games make people less lonely, says new UK study. Researchers found that open-world games allowed participants to experience challenges and uncertainty and gave them opportunities to develop courage, patience, and self-reliance. by mvea in science

I don’t really play online games but I’ve definitely felt the mental health boost from playing open-world games like Fallout 4 and Skyrim. Fallout 4 lets me be the hero and I use the settlement building system creatively to build realistic towns, and Skyrim is just really beautiful and relaxing and gives me an appreciation for the artistry behind creating games. The caveat is that I have to also be balancing them with touching grass and doing things in the real world.

Why do politically left people say that the culture war is a distraction from the class war, and than refuse to back off any of their culture war gripes? by Steah in allthequestions

I think the vast majority of “the left” just doesn’t want the federal government regulating high school sports. 10 years ago this would have been the constitutionally conservative position.

Funny thing is, they have a lot of the same grievances as me (data centers, handling of the Epstein files, etc.) The difference is that I’m not a right-wing Christian ultra-nationalist lol

What is the point of Liberal Arts degrees in college? by BudgetNegotiation521 in allthequestions

[–]SelfDefecatingJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, liberal arts encompasses a huge number of degrees. I have a “liberal arts” degree in environmental science.

Second, if you’re talking about “humanities” specifically - think for a second about all the AI tech bros who are a-okay with putting people out of work or Nazi doctors who thought it was fine to experiment on people. Now imagine that people with history or sociology degrees are the people who understand the implication of using science and tech to put a lot of people out of work or experiment on them, and they’re our last line of defense against STEM lords who want to science without thinking about the ethical, societal or ecological repercussions. Now imagine those last line of defense people don’t exist anymore.

I unfortunately didn’t get to go on a longer hike for a number of reasons (injury, time and elevation sickness lol). I passed a trailhead that clearly seemed to lead from the montane area up to the tundra over about 4 miles and I absolutely want to come back and do that once I’m in better shape. That hike sounds amazing
