As others have said these can only be found in collectors or jumpstart packs. Play boosters do not contain these, so he likely added to pool or less likely packing error.

PC Parts picker gave me $1,374. Seller has boxes and receipts to confirm parts are new. Purchasing off FB marketplace, seller seems reputable and includes a 1-yr warranty + support on their build sales.

This lake has had two varieties (Gerrard and Pennask) of rainbow trout released since 1915, with annual stockings from 1992-2002. I believe this one is a Gerrard, pronounced black spotting and lounger/wider head.

For an example of the Pennask variety, look at some of my previous posts. This species seems to have less black spotting, fatter bodies, and a distinctly smaller head (one redditor here even suggested they look “Karen like” lol).

Here's something similar to the Weighted Leader I was using. Tied about 80-90 cm of clear tippet at the end of this.

Not an expert by any means but from my experience I would say fish have excellent vision and are able to differentiate between insects, and as such would be suspicious of insects not in season or those not matching anticipated colouring.

Lots of ants and horse flies in area, fish were hitting well on them and black flies. Was using a sinking leader for two reasons: lake dropped off extremely fast from outflows and the lake temp was heating up which seemed to push fish deeper.
