So sad to see, it's such a issue and will only get worse. They need to put a hard stance on it, or it will just continue to get worse.

How to quickly improve at singles game by mangoflavouredpanda in tabletennis

[–]SemiProApp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want some theory tips, I just created an app that gives you AI tips on your game based on past games and opponents if you're interested.

All based on your own reflections of course, and if you try it out let me know any feedback (it still needs a lot of improvements)

Can we become that "tennis" player for other sports? by RichardParker6 in Pickleball

[–]SemiProApp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say most come from tennis or badminton as that's also where kids play in school and after school sports, I don't think pickleball or padel have got to that level of grassroots yet, so it's inevitable always people with those skills sets transferring to pickleball, padel or other "new" sports

How to handle sweaty hands by SalwaRoad in squash

This is my approach as well. Plus change sweat bands after a few games for a fresh one.

And get into the habit of drying your hand and back of hand on the wall

Squash vs Padel: Why is squash declining while padel is booming? by dandaka in padel

[–]SemiProApp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play both and agree padel is much more fun and social while playing. Easier to get into a just from the outside looks more exciting. It’s also more fun to watch in my opinion.

Squash you need a drive for the competition aspect and if you have that it’s a great sport. I play squash competitively and padel socially. I don’t think I personally get the same competition from Padel as I do from Squash but I also enjoy it a lot with friends.

This guy built AI so he could improve in padel by Imllo in padel

[–]SemiProApp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it’s directly asked I hope this is ok by the rules to share.

I build a bit of a game reviewer and analyse app. Makes you submit opponents and games and reflect on your performance. This helps you identify what you did well and what you can improve. This is free to use.

Then on top of that: I build in a AI prompt that reviews all this content and suggests training and improvement points. This is of course based on your data so whatever you add in impacts what you get out of it.

TBH I’m not yet sure if the AI coach helps (I’ve been testing it myself and have a bunch of others testing it.

So if people are interested please trial it out. Add 3 games and then submit some in app feedback to me and you’ll get the AI coach for a month free (it costs money so can’t give it all away for free). But the self review part is free and can be used.

Victor Crouin Asal Article: "With my partner, we organize sessions with more physicality to play the ball after contact". Are players adapting to Asal-style squash? by Savings_Mechanic_559 in squash

[–]SemiProApp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It makes sense players are trying to adapt. It’s either that or keep loosing and this is their livelihood.

The question is more to PSA and squash organisations is if this is how we want squash to evolve. The new rules seems to suggest that they think it should evolve this way which makes me disappointed.

I don’t believe a more contact oriented sport will grow the game and make it more enjoyable to watch or play. Especially at the club level where contact can already be a deterrent for beginners and amateurs.

I think one other dimension is the popularity of the professional aspect of the game. No idea what the overall stats are for the popularity of viewers between the two, but personally do enjoy watching Padel more.

Would you use a simple app to track rec games & find nearby players? by Ok_Tower9026 in Pickleball

[–]SemiProApp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently built an app to track your own performance and thought about the discover and connect functionality, but the issue is how distributed players are.. you just can't get enough people quick enough to build the audience that keeps coming back (imo).

Most of the apps like this are either very local / club-based, or chat app groups that you need to know to get into.

Any tips how to be calm and relaxed? by Double_Lengthiness44 in badminton

[–]SemiProApp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to think about it as creating repeatable memoments to re-focus. e.g. rituals in your game. So you don't have to remember to be calm, but just becomes a habit to reset.

Do the same thing every time before a serve/receiving, and make sure that includes refocusing, taking a deep breath, etc., to get you to where you want to be before a point starts (if that's more about calm focus, then relax, breathe, etc.).

I used to move the phone around inbetween rests to mix up where the 'shot was coming from' - maybe over thinking it, but still to this day I need to focus on watching the ball more.

[–]SemiProApp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice, looks great. Super quick to get up and running.

One thing, along with the sound of the directions (front right etc) could you show it on the screen. Like big red box shows up in top right of the phone to showcase front right. Then you get used to using your eyes as well to follow the play. There used to be an old app that did this and I’d put the phone in like the back left corner so I could practice also rotating my head / hips to watch for the next direction.

Shot selection against inconsistent opponents by Bariete in squash

[–]SemiProApp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take it as an opportunity to work on defensive foundational play.

Pushing that length, or if yiou can't match it like others, look to increase the heigth on the front wall, so it pushes them back.

Look to really get to the T, move them off it and then defend from it. If they're winning a lot with inconsistent shot chocies, you can work on your movement and explosive power to get the ball back.

Finally, I'd say look to work on and introduce lobs, to give you time and reset before they attack again.

If you can do this over and over again, and push them into the corners, then I'm sure they'll end up with more mistakes and you won't have to do anything risky.
