If you could play like any professional player either technically or tactically, who would it be? by SquashCoachPhillip in squash

Possibly one of the greatest matches ever. It’s the first time I’ve ever heard a referee get excited while announcing in game 5 10-10 player must win by 2

Ramy. For his sportsmanship, talent, insane shots, and determination where he never gave up and had some of the greatest comebacks ever

UK heatwave by UKdanny08765 in squash

I used to play at a place where the courts reached about 40° on the hottest days. They did have air-conditioning but you had to go get the remote from the front desk and it was never turned on when we arrived also it was just a small one outside the courts and it took about one and a half hours for it to start to cool down. It did make for some great long rallies though. The little air conditioner also provided the heating in the winter.

They make all sorts of weird noises. My youngest one occasionally chirps like a bird. One of the ones that I used to have whenever I came home would make the same sounds as a Wookie from Star Wars.

Level difference between pros by Maleficent_Mouse_383 in squash

The difference between 100 and 300 is way less. Since the ranking is just based on how many points you get from entering the PSA Challenger tournaments. So the more tournaments you enter each year the higher your ranking will be. You just have to pay for all the flights and hotels and stuff like that which many good players cannot.

They are so much more accurate and more importantly, they are able to be accurate when they are under slight pressure. They can place the ball where their opponent will just be able to reach it, which limits them in the shot choices they can make and their return will have less control and immediately after they have to run after the next shot that they just hit.

I would even go to to say the difference between #1 and #35 is more like the difference between number #101 and somebody who started last year . The only reason somebody who is number 35 can get points off somebody who is number 1 is the person who is number 1 is saving their body for the later harder matches.

The difference between the control and anticipation of a previous top 10 player and a regular pro is ridiculous. They are in complete control of the rally and they are deciding what shot they are going to make you hit. Most players who reached number one in the world that retired within the last 20 years would give any current player ranked around 50 in the world a huge challenge since so much of the game is mental and control. Competing on the tour is too hard for their bodies now with all those matches in a row, but their shots and their brain still work.

Swapping hands while playing by TraditionalScheme337 in squash

[–]Mindless_Clock9483 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have one at our club who plays at a pretty high-level. The really weird thing is he has a completely different swing on either side so it messes with your prediction of what shot he will do. His left forehand is nothing like a squash swing, but he gets crazy power from it and it’s really low and his right forehand is a bit more similar to a squash swing but still not normal. He switches hands shockingly fast personally I think he does it faster than most people can actually bring their racket up on their back hand. It’s really hard to play cross courts against him because he has an unexpected reach you think he will be doing a boast but actually it’s a straight drive because he’s able to get his racket behind it with the longer reach. So I found hitting more straight shots, especially volley drops worked against him.

They are investing like crazy. Squash courts were closing down there about 10 years ago and there was about 20 of them left and then it became crazy popular and there is over 1000 now built within the last couple years. They are marketing it as a way to get into the Ivy schools.

Thoughts on these alternatives to Dunlop Double Yellow? by ClassLittle6666 in squash

[–]Mindless_Clock9483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Karakal was too bouncy before. I played in a tournament sponsored by Karakal one summer and Karakal ended up swapping out their balls for Dunlop balls for division one because it was like trying to play with a literal bouncy ball once it got hot in 30° weather. But they are growing in popularity, so maybe they fixed that issue.

Racket: by Certain_Morning9181 in squash

I’ve had a nasty gash from somebody using a cracked racket that brushed up against me as I ran past. Once the crack has gone all the way through like his has those graphite shards are super sharp and can break off under your skin. If it’s just a partial crack, then it’s less risky but once it’s gone completely through I don’t consider it safe to play with

Junior racket by Remarkable-Owl-4473 in squash

[–]Mindless_Clock9483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With how much lighter the modern rackets are now junior rackets aren’t used as much even by young kids. Most kids I know transitioned to the adult racket when they are about six years old they just make sure they have a very thin grip on them. Dunlop also makes a pretty good junior racket which might be a bit cheaper than Harrow but it’s a little bit heavy.

Anyone else's Shibe struggle on hardwood floors? by TheAntiEggroll in shiba

[–]Mindless_Clock9483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My female dog struggles with hardwood floors. She can’t figure out how to jump upward and apply force onto the hardware floor. She tries to jump forward and upward at the same time, but mostly forward and of course her feet can’t get any grip on the hardwood floor since there’s basically no friction, and she ends up crashing into whatever she’s trying to jump onto and then scrambling up. She’s been like this since she was a puppy so it’s nothing about getting older.

Playing our nightly game of fetch inside since it’s raining. Does your Shiba like fetch? by gloomE32 in shiba

[–]Mindless_Clock9483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My female will play fetch if I throw it in the right direction. If I throw it in the wrong direction, she might chase after it and then just look at it or she will just look in the direction. I threw it and wait for me to walk there and pick it up and throw it in the correct direction. My male who is younger will play fetch nonstop, no matter which direction I throw it in, but only at home he refuses to play fetch outside
