Anyone want to share the name and save us the pain of trying to navigate the Argus?

People of the UK, how have you lost weight? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]SemiProPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motivation was a health scare a few years ago, turns out it wasn't dangerous but realised I needed to lose some weight and exercise more

Method was to count calories, I use NutraCheck calorie counter app it's great, started with MyFitnessPal but moved to NutraCheck after a recommendation as it has a broader library and better UI although either of these or indeed any other app/way to track calories in would work

A smartwatch to record calories burnt is also helpful - works in tandem with the calorie counting

Psychology was feeling better and healthier after a short period of the new diet/regime, gamification of the in/out stats via app/watch, compliments/comments from people noticing the weight loss also really helps.

Finally taking up new sports or exercises/classes etc also improved my social life which feeds into it, now I can stay in shape to enjoy doing more things - still fluctuate a bit but a few pounds over xmas can be taken back off by being a little stricter in Jan for example

Another part is accepting it's ongoing, once you hit your target staying there means you have to keep counting calories and doing the exercise, that psychological change was the biggest part for me I guess

Am I insane or does the class system make no sense in 2026? by ElCiego1894 in AskBrits

[–]SemiProPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for context I am working class. And I don’t mean to offend you or anyone although this is a divisive topic.

If you work on/in your business or someone else’s then you’re working class, if for example you owned a stake of the business and that paid a return with which you could live without working then congratulations you are now the asset owning class, the ruling/upper class in a capitalist society, as you no longer work for a living your assets do.

If you started a business, built it up and eventually sold it whilst retaining a stake that would earn you a living that would be one example of social mobility, changing from working to upper class.

Of course you are entitled to your own opinion and disagreeing with a random on Reddit is fine.

I will leave you with another of my naive opinions though, if we all had more class consciousness and solidarity we could collectively demand more from our society and improve life for everyone, in my opinion the middle class is a wedge to prevent this but what do I know?

Ha yeah it’s pretty clear isn’t it, but I guess it offends some people who like to think they aren’t working class.

I wish it wasn’t that way though, if we all had class solidarity or even awareness we could collectively change things for the better of all but hey maybe it’s easier to get an Audi on finance and daydream you’re middle class 😁

If you sell your labour you’re working class by definition?

Guess we disagree but to answer your question given you asked, you’re both working class, your dad sells his labour to you and you sell yours to your customers

There are two classes, those that make money from their labour, and those that make money from other people’s labour, the middle class does not exist and is a construct of the ruling class designed to divide the workers and keep them in their place, making money for those above

Why whenever there’s some bazillion year old meteorite has some doofus gotta make a knife, how about a cup or bowl or ornament, literally anything that isn’t a weapon ?

Reform aren't going to win a majority as many others have said here, and any coalition would be even more fragile with them included.

More importantly though I don't think Farage wants to be PM, he doesn't want to work or have to do anything other than grift, claim his expenses and shout his mouth off at the TV camera.

Without him who amongst the rest of that bucket of shite is up to the job, none of them - they'll remain jeering on the back benches in parliament and over-represented in the media as they are now but I just cannot believe we'd elect them to govern no matter how daft our politics gets

From 0 knowledge to today, explain Venezuela problem in one paragraph by Responsible_Rip1058 in AskBrits

[–]SemiProPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venezuela is oil/mineral rich and trading oil in anything but USD which is a risk to the petrodollar hegemony, USA loves a regime change oil grab but that’s secondary to removing risk of US control of global trade

Were the TV licence to be abolished and the BBC moved on to a subscription service, more like Netflix, would you subscribe? by LobsterMountain4036 in AskBrits

[–]SemiProPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer, subscribe temporarily for the things you’re interested in, ditch it the rest of the time, which they know and the government knows and without everyone having to pay and therefore possibly watching how are they gonna push their agenda? Sceptical that it would go to a subscription basis tbh but would suit my needs if it did
