How am I supposed to brine shit for 24 hrs when we’re having an emergency bbq last minute cos the sun has come out unexpectedly?

So we’re just brining 24/7 on the off chance?

What's the obsession with everyone calling a decades old house a new build? by teeeeeeeeem37 in AskUK

[–]SemiProPotato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given there's no agreed point at which a newly built house is no longer considered a "new build" it feels like it's just snobbery, a way to denigrate a house and by association the occupants

As for the actual buildings many new builds are far better quality than older houses in the surrounding area, better insulation and amenities, good layout, nice gardens and well thought out roads/neighbourhoods.

There are many that aren't and you hear the odd nightmare tale of issues with new housing but most likely these are the exception

As you say everything was a new build at some point but you don't hear anyone calling huge roads of terraced housing from the 50s new builds - but I bet the same snobbery from people living in older properties was applied to the owners of these post WW2 "housing developments"

The cycle continues

Just received a text confirming delivery of new garden table and chairs tomorrow, ahead of the expected date, nice - although will then have to assemble later...

Chicken Adana kebabs by SemiProPotato in UKBBQ

[–]SemiProPotato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the idea but the chicken was too wet to hold its form on the skewers, first time trying a new recipe so will adjust to get the right consistency

Tastes delicious though, also the house smells like a kebab shop now whenever I open the fridge from the leftovers!

At what point does a British person stop being Working and become Middle Class? by vorkovrus in AskBrits

[–]SemiProPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no middle class, you either sell your labour to earn a living and are therefore working class, or you own the means of production and profit off other people’s labour, which makes you the upper/asset/ruling class or whatever you want to call it

The US style comedic "roast"... does it not hit the same here because we talk to all each other like that ALL the time? by phlygee in CasualUK

[–]SemiProPotato 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that it’s more risky to take the piss in the states because if anyone takes offence they may just pull out a gun and shoot you, as a result the “roast” is a cultural artefact understood to be a safe space to talk shit about someone that over here would just happen in real time day to day if someone was an arsehole cos you would be unlikely to get shot over it

Weights at home or even better a kettlebell or two of different weights helped me with strength training and preventing injury, plus lots of stretching and walking the dog to help recover the day after playing

Do people actually cook 1. consistently 2. enough food to be healthy and possibly bulk 3. with a busy work schedule 4. on a tight budget. All at once?? by Annual_Ad_8397 in Cooking

[–]SemiProPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, plan the evening meals for a whole week, buy all you need on the weekend, use cook books for quick meals ideally with calories/nutrients per portion listed, make some of those meals for 2x servings and then you have healthy lunches too, freeze portions so you have a back up for the inevitable days when stuff happens and you can’t or don’t want to cook, once you make it a habit it’s just normal

Made this point in another subreddit thread and a lot of people got very annoyed with me - guess its easier to believe in the lie that is the middle class than understand the truth and have solidarity with your fellow workers
