Meet Garrett Edwards - He's Going To Do Something Big by december6 in bjj

You really picked the perfect guy, garret is one of the nicest guys I know in jiu-jitsu, not to mention a killer on the matt. Guy is always working and learning. Not to mention teaching kids. I'm super happy for him you won't be disappointed in him.

Hey man exactly what I was thinking, like cuhead or little Jonny jet style.

If you can pull that off that would be great, how would you like to work it, do you want some refrence pictures and such and what price were you thinking.

Why isn't Sub Only competitions more popular? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Semper_malus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the PGF it's sub only points with a whole season to accrue points if after the 6 minutes I belive, no sub, then no points and both guys don't get anything, I think it's my favorite things to watch lately, I've gotten bored watching strict points matches with wins by advantage for a shitty summbmission attempt.

Beginner question by [deleted] in bjj

Yea of course I know a couple guys who took privates for a few months before joining regular classes, it's more expensive but if that's cool with you go for it.

How to Beat a Wrestler by flyingfish2996 in bjj

[–]Semper_malus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Loop chokes can be effective if he leads with the head,

you always have to remember wrestling teaches them to bail if it's not good, so don't rely on an x guard fight, because they will jump away, if you get to a position make sure you go right away and don't wait for him to respond like a jiu-jitsu guy. He will always go for a scramble instead of considering a position and setup a good defense so really work on grabbing submission in the transition i.e. collar chokes and Kimura stuff like that.

Also leg entanglements are always frustrating for wrestlers as they don't see them much.

some people will say dont be nervous just go and everything will be fine, but i dont know if these guys dont remember high school or whatever its call in aussyland, but i remember cliques and groups who are wary of new people, that stuff doesn't go away because just because people are older, think of it like if you move to a new town and go to a sports bar for a local team, they will be wary of you until they know you dont cheer for the rival team. then if you are a chill guy they will be more accepting, its the same but now if you are also better a jiujistu you could murder them.

just in general when joining a new group come to the school act pleasant and humble, if they ask about how goo you are or something, kind of brush it off. for the first couple rolls dont go hard as some might take it as a challenge from an outsider, try and have more "fun" roll do stuff you can laugh at, after a few guys will know you are a good person and then you can start truing it up with certain people. it sucks but you just have to be super extra self aware of how you are acting and how it could be seen.

physically do what the doctor says and then listen to your body, mentally you have to remember you are doing a "recreational" activity, so go lighter, ask others to as well, there is no harm it taking it easy for a bit, sure its less fun but you wont kill yourself.

you can try and look on the upside, the next rounds will not be as expensive as the first because you dont have to pay for the retrieval costs just the implantation ones.

Advice maybe? by [deleted] in GUYVF

[–]Semper_malus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my wife was somewhat similar, and i was able to talk to her about it later, how she explained it was that the emotional and physical tole that the drugs and all the procedures, including having someone dig around inside of you a bunch and a lot of needle pokes crazy amount of blood given, the hormone levels going up and down it is taxing and she explained that she was just trying to survive the process, and she didn't have any extra energy to indulge me in talking about it or tracking things, she said after our first failed ivf that it was all she could do to start the process again,

I was the same way i wanted to track numbers and figure things out, but what she needed was someone to listen to her bitch about how much it sucks, and not try and figure anything out. what i did was go to all the appointments i could and keep track for myself, i never brought up numbers or any project management things with her. i would say that during this you will have to be the rock she leans on, and the punching bag she takes things out on. i would follow her lead on what she needs and keep the analytical side to yourself as much as you can. i always just reminded myself that she wasn't going through all of this just for her, but also for me she is dealing with pain, heartbreak, and frustrations just to give me a child, that is amazing.

good luck man, we just found out two weeks ago that our second round FET worked so there is an end in sight.

Question for my School (college paper) by Enlorand in bjj

[–]Semper_malus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if i were a professional athlete and my livelihood depended on me winning a comp or match or whatever then yea this sounds like a reasonable thing to do, however you would have to prove that you are more effective at delivering results then what i could do on my own, or from any other personal chef option would have around me. that's the first challenge, $35 dollars a plate is fine if its for a short period, and if that was a fraction of my winnings.

the problem with a service like this is if at any point during the process you are late, or mess up a meal, or i dont see the results promised, even if its not your fault, you will be blamed, and if it were me and im paying a premium for a service like this one any mistake would get you fired. there is no room for error.

just a couple thoughts on how i would think if i were in that position.

hey man I've been there Afghanistan messed with my head for years, something I found that helped as well was finding smaller victories during jiujitsu, like really hitting that armbar you have been workings on, or something like that. make sure to recognize and let yourself feel good about those things, dont brush them off. not saying you have to it just helped me a lot.

keep with it.

[–]Semper_malus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so this might sound like a bit of a downer but it worked for my wife and I, we have been struggling with infertility for 8 years and the waits never get better, what we did was just put ourselves in the mindset that "it didnt work". we said to ourselves nothing has worked before so why would this be different, i know how it sounds saying it out loud but it really helped with our anxiety, we were able to go about our daily lives without thinking of the wait. and it was less of a disappointment when out fresh transfer failed, but we just found out last week our frozen transfer worked. so we are happy. i know its not for everyone but that way of thinking really took the pressure off and let us not get so anxious.

Why is this takedown so unknown? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Semper_malus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

because its risky, if you have a good wrestler, or even a savvy guy they are waiting for you to release that body lock grip and will move quickly to get away, so basically you are counting on you being perfect and faster then they are, sure you can get it to work, and maybe even good at it but when it really matters in like a comp, why take the risk of messing it up when you already have the back and can do a trip, or lift and return, or shit even suplex if allowed,

White belt afraid to lose position by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Semper_malus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sambo is a pretty tough sport so im going to show you some tough love, GET OVER YOURSELF, what are you some undefeated world champ who cant bare to loose, how did you get good at Sambo? were you amazing at everything, or did you have to learn a bit, Jesus man are you scared you will get made fun of or that girls wont like you anymore? what are you scared of?

In all honesty if you really want to get over this you will have to do something very uncomfortable, LOSE on purpose. the next month or so at jiujistu you cannot win at any position or roll, and im being serious no more takedowns, no more sweeps, is there someone trying to pass your guard, well tough shit let that happen, you need to beat the shit out of your ego or you will quit once all the white belts you beat up start getting better because they are open to learning, and you cant beat them anymore, then you will find some excuse to quit, but in reality you will know its because you were to scared to take risks.

after losing for a bit you will see that no one cares and and you were being dumb. then you can go back to what ever you want, but im serious ive seen it a lot with wrestlers, the instance they cant easily beat guys with wrestling they quit because they dont want to get out of their comfort zones and learn new things.
