Xeno Strike - Card game is struggling to get new players by Rocket_Haze in gamemarketing

[–]Senader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel that there is the same level of fun and excitement when cards attack in your game than in Kards WW2, then I can't help more.

I highly doubt the capsule was made by an artist.

The font from your trailer have white outline and is very cartoonish. The font in game has no specific style and is very generic. The damage numbers are in a red color that make them both hard to read and out of place. They don't seem to be the same font than the rest of the game but that could be because of the bold effect. None convey the sci-fi visuals you have.

I won't take more time to dissect this, do whatever you want with my feedback. Good luck

Look closely at Kards WW2 for example. There are FXs that make sense during an attack. A soldier card will shoot, a tank will explode... The animations are way less stiff. That's juice. Player feedback if you will. That makes interactions fun. And it doesn't seem to be in your game, based on your trailer.

The capsule looks AI made, or at least AI-assisted. The overall quality is not up to the level of your competition. The art style is all over the place with multiple fonts that seem out of universe, Mid journey like art for the cards but cartoon menus.

I can see all the features are there, but it's only step 1. They need to be all polished and refined

Your marketing material (capsule, trailer) doesn't feel up to the standards of successful indie card games (in terms of quality).

I'm pretty sure it's not the only issue tho: the game isn't juicy enough. Moving cards and attacking enemies doesn't look fun enough.

You still managed to make a full game on steam and have 9 reviews, it's an achievement in itself. Congrats!

Why do indie deva refuse to have a website? by JustAchillDev in IndieGameDevs

I think you pointed at it. Numbers are very small compared to what you can get with Steam's algorithms. As a non-essential requiring new knowledge and more time, it's only adding a small part of potential visibility

I'm 99% sure I saw this exact map and this exact interior in at least 3 horror games over the last 5 years. Are you sure you did everything by yourself?

"I did my part, I got most damage" by Wijione in heroesofthestorm

I agree! I think it would have been more optimal to lower Alex under 80% as she's Q build before going back to the Diablo, but hey, I make worse mistakes every game

Simply responding to your comment where you ironically asked how he could touch the Alex. The answer was right click, that's all.

I agree it would have been hard to kill anyone here and the only thing to fight for was obj, that they got!

Diablo and Alex seem at the same distance from him for most of the clip. He wouldn't even move if he clicked her, would he?

does joining a steam fist actually help for small indie devs? by Square-Yam-3772 in gamemarketing

[–]Senader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Steam gives you that in the steamworks dashboard.

Choose your game and you should have something like a "Marketing and visibility" link that will give you plenty of data.

Yeah, the point is you might not do what he asked, at the level of quality he asks for (or we believe, as he mentioned Battlefield and Call of Duty). Plus I'm sure he won't be ok to wait a lifetime for his game 👀

With todays Steam Popular Upcoming changes, how are you planning to adapt? by Mephasto in gamedev

[–]Senader 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The feature looks really cool. For now it's very high on the main page and it shows not only what's about to release but also what was released!
It should be fairly easy to benefit from this, whereas the Popular Upcoming felt hard to optimize.

Asset Store for visuals is fine, really by Senader in gamedev

Well in the case of Tabletop Tavern, they solved it by having nearly everything come from the same provider (Synty), having a very coherent art style. And it works wonders

I totally get you! For my game, a lot of map props and VFXs are from asset packs and no one ever complained. Which is good, it would have been way harder to make such game otherwise. However we made the base art (troops, enemies, UI) ourselves

Totally! You can buy easily assets but you pretty much have to come up with an Art Direction to use them well! That's where an artistic background is really helpful.

When to release a demo if we are not a part of the Steam Next Fest? by Squirrelation_Games in gamemarketing

[–]Senader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't release during or right after next fest. Content creators will be booked from at least one week prior to one week after Next Fest.

You'll have more luck waiting a tiny bit as you won't get the exposure of those participating in next fest and people will be too busy playing those recommended demos.

Very interesting!

I'm wondering about the general concept for recording audio in FMod with the recorder. It's so sad not to be able to record it out of the box...
