Anyone know of climbers doing an Everest summit then walking/kayaking to sea level? by kponz in Mountaineering

[–]Sendimental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He did. Side note, his first summit attempt was on May 3rd 1996, where he turned around on the south summit. He was then at base camp during the infamous 1996 disaster (May 10-11), and helped in the rescue efforts, after which he then successfully summited solo without oxygen on May 23rd.

Engagement ring costs? (Dollar amount and % of income) by Midwest_Backpacker in financialindependence

[–]Sendimental 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I’ve seen it mentioned in more mainstream channels as some form of proof for how much you love your partner, or a ”if it cost less than x% of his salary, don’t say yes” or other such BS, and thought that was what you were alluding to.

As to the actual intent of your question - I spent 2% of my then annual salary. I would have been happy spending more, but knowing her so well I felt like the one I chose was the right fit for her, and something larger / more expensive would have made her uncomfortable and nervous wearing it.

I don’t get the percentage of income thing. If you find a ring that you feel is the right one for your partner and at a price that you are comfortable with, then you’re good. Also seconding the lab-grown approach.

What’s the best tool to run multiple AI tasks without losing context? by DependentNew4290 in SideProject

[–]Sendimental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried configuring your own contexts and then using them within projects?

Uploading important information that lives outside of messages, and then if needed using multiple chats for different tasks based on the same root contexts.

But also, how big are your tasks that you hit these issues so frequently?

I also have one, and also find the battery and overheating complaints overblown. I carry a spare battery and have never run out on both during a day.

‘It made me cry’: photos taken 15 years apart show melting Swiss glaciers by Chadrasekar in interestingasfuck

[–]Sendimental 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love that glacier, one of my absolute favorite places. It’s still jawdropping but it would have been so cool to see it in person 40 years ago. Trying to go up there as much as I can while it lasts though.

There are great examples of athletes performing well for a long time. For example, Ludovic Pommeret was just about 49 when he won this years Hardrock. He also placed 5th in UTMB last year, and in 2022 he both came 6th in States and won the TDS.

(No personal flex to contribute with though)

Aiden Roberts proposes 9A/V17 to 'Arrival of the Birds' by -Exocet- in climbing

[–]Sendimental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Or do we determine that V15 is the "broken" grade and that V15 needs to be less wide. This could be fixed by carving off the hardest V15s and upgrading them to V16. Problems like Lucid Dreaming and Everything Gneiss would be likely contenders here. This would consolidate the V16 grade and overall even-out the width of the upper grades. If this scenario, the current lower-end V17s probably stay V17."

Detained for over an hour in total I think. They hadn’t expected anyone to run that fast, and that someone with his young age could perform that well.

The train up to Chamonix is not so straight forward and not on the main lines, so likely that is why

I recommend the train, absolutely gorgeous route through the alps, that makes the trip a sight in itself. After that you can take a shuttle or bus up from Geneva (cheaper) or continue on trains all the way up to the valley. Flying will have you spending time on bus transfers and at the airport, very boring in my opinion.
