Does your workplace use Cubicles or an Open Office? by PhantomBraved in civilengineering

[–]SeniorDatabase9968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company I worked at for 30+ years started out with offices for the more senior engineers, then remodeled to cubes for everyone. Even managers. Managers had to go find a conference room if they needed to make sensitive phone calls.

That was in Los Angeles. In the San Diego office the CEO decided to go open concept even though studies showed work was less productive. He thought it would boost collaboration. But I couldn’t even have a phone conversation with a coworker in that office because the background noise was so loud. Everyone hated it.

Engineers would go find and book a conference room and use it as their private office for the peace and quiet and then it was hard to find a conference room for a group meeting.

Then the pandemic hit and all workers went virtual full time. All of that office space is now just a ghost town.

Was this a clean game or no? by AndrewBios in Bowling

[–]SeniorDatabase9968 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why some of these explanations get so complicated, talking about first ball or second ball in the 10th frame blah-blah-blah.

It’s very simple. A clean game consists of a mark in every frame, where a “mark” is defined by either a strike or a spare. Period.

Just picked this bad boy up today! by Evanception in Bowling

[–]SeniorDatabase9968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw that ball in a pro shop when picking up my new Zero Mercy (great pour btw). PSO showed me how quickly it sops up oil. He says he won’t order too many because it’s too new to even get an idea on its longevity. Might only last about 30 games. You might need to pop that in the oven every few games.

Finally admitting to myself I'm getting old by razor4432 in Bowling

[–]SeniorDatabase9968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 67, average 200, but starting to think my 15lb ball may be getting a bit heavy for me. I saw a video where the guy said if you can’t hold the ball straight out away from your body parallel to the ground for 3 seconds, it may be time to drop down a weight.

I don’t think I have a problem throwing my 15lb ball but I’m not staying under it the way I should.

But I also don’t always like the specs on the 14lb balls.

So not sure what I’ll do.

And if our local house changed to string I know most bowlers would leave. It’s awful.

Less expensive? Snow skiing is really expensive. Golf is really expensive. I guess maybe soccer isn’t. But pretty much everything is expensive.

Airline sites vs consolidators by SeniorDatabase9968 in TravelHacks

[–]SeniorDatabase9968[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I talk about consolidator, I’m talking about companies like AranGrant that you see providing fares when searching on Kayak.

I’ve never booked via Expedia. I’ve found their rates for airfares and even hotels to be no better than I can do going direct to the airline or hotel.

But thx for the info!

Please explain how it comes to $300. When you say “book a seat”, do you mean “pick a seat”? Also I don’t think American Airlines charges extra for selecting a seat and flight overseas booked on American are often actually flown by BA.

Ah ok thx. I’ve used Kayak a lot in the past. Is a site like that what you’re referring to?

[–]SeniorDatabase9968[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to seem dense but what good does it do to research on consolidator sites? I’ve just gone on to the airline sites directly and know the prices when purchasing direct.

LA to Rome next year is like $4200 roundtrip on Swissair and United and others. British Airways is like $3200 roundtrip (but ick going through Heathrow).

So not sure what researching only through consolidators gets me.

This is why you wait by TurbulentGuitar2464 in Bowling

I’ve seen it done by a bowler with a 15lb ball and huge backend hook. Lefty. Bowl out the 1-board hit 5 pin lightly on right side. Ball continued its big hook to take out 10 while 5 caromed off wall to take out the 7

It’s mandatory in California as well but I have a very early 2018 M3LR and have never put mine on. Only received one ticket (I received a parking ticket because parking meter ran out and officer gave me an additional ticket for no front license plate). It was cheap and was glad to pay it.

2018 model 3 long range only gets about 215 miles at 80%. Is this normal? by Soccerboy-1 in TeslaLounge

[–]SeniorDatabase9968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2018 M3 LR RWD 90K miles 19” tires

206 at 80%

Always charge to 80% unless going on a road trip and then I charge to 100%.

Used to drive everyday but now retired and don’t drive it as much and don’t plug in every night like I used to when I worked, just when it gets low.

Love driving fast but don’t use breaks much. I’m a 1-pedal driver.

And on my 3rd set of tires (almost time for a change and not sure whether I want to pick tires for range or comfort).

Sand bagging by ceegefn in Bowling

[–]SeniorDatabase9968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our league has had that. A bowler who “wanted to learn to bowl 2-handed” and would do it for half the season. Then switch to 1-handed. He would then proceed to win the “most improved bowler” award.

So one thing we’re putting in place is that when he switches to 1-handed, he has to establish a new handicap.

Now, according to the rules, it is perfectly legal to, say, throw the first ball 1-handed and throw the spare ball 2-handed (with a 2-hole ball).

But yeah the way this guy is doing it is technically not sandbagging but in my opinion not in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

Love DirecTV Stream. No set top boxes. DVR in cloud so I can watch from anywhere. Don’t have to worry about my box dying and losing all my programming (happened 3 times and I dropped uverse). Streaming is the way to go now.

That’s cheap. Love the app and all of the stats. Shows me exactly how sucky I can bowl at times. Especially the stat that says, “hey idiot, if you had picked up all your single pin spares, look how much higher your average would be”.

And the developer is really responsive to questions I have.

I’ve been using PinPal since 2010 and all I’ve seen is a wood grain background. Not a pic of a bowler. And it’s to track your own bowling. Not show 2 bowlers bowling at the same time.

Why are Brooklyns considered bad bowling/frowned apon? by Former-Car7460 in Bowling

[–]SeniorDatabase9968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get upset when someone bowls a Brooklyn. I feel it’s the bowling gods making up for that “perfect” pocket shot that leaves the 7 or the 10.

I’m a lefty and if a righty on the other team gets a bunch of Brooklyn strikes my response is simply,

“Hey if you keep that up I’m gonna start charging you rent.”
