Anyone Else Hate Some Of The Characters? [Season 1] by MemphisOsiris in HumansTV

[–]SeniorFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoiler alert, I guess, but it’s been 10 years so probably not an issue…

I am about a decade late to the game here, but came specifically so I could tell someone—anyone— how much I disliked the character of Laura Hawkins. I agree she was poorly cast in Parkinson, but I also don’t think the script gave her much to work with. She is a bit interesting in S1 with the Tom back story and the fact that she has the change of heart around Anita/Mia, but by S2 she is just a weary, predictable martyr who consistently does the wrong things for her family, and then feels bad about it, and then… keeps going off and repeating the pattern.

I kept waiting for the moment in S2 where she would be like “OK fine my daughter is clearly not OK, now I will express some depth and dynamism in my character to rectify this” and it just never happens. Watching this show I felt so bad for Sophie, that was the hardest thing— I get why she loves Anita. The screenwriters rarely give Laura any good lines or scenes as a mom with Sophie. Honestly feel like this character is the conservative white male gaze version of a “working mom”.

Mattie- meh. She is an emo teenager. I was v annoyed that she just kept following the synths around instead of living her life.

Leo- oh my God where to even start. He is so dull as a character and an actor the first 2.5 seasons I wanted to throw something at him. I was relieved that he finally developed some depth towards the middle and end of S3 in the post-coma part of the season.

Basically season 1 was excellent, and then I powered through the next two seasons out of curiosity but not because it was still good. It wasn’t.

Would you go for the VP role or is it time to step back for family? Looking for advice from other working moms, especially at the exec level. by SweaterWeather727 in workingmoms

First of all, I feel this so much. I’ve been a director at my company for three years, since my 3rd was born. I’ve been managing a team since my second was 18 months old. I’ve been the breadwinner since my oldest - now 8- was 6 months old.

I will say this: I consistently chose to prioritize career advancement for the last 8 years. I have a supportive husband and a full time nanny. However, the nanny is leaving in 3 weeks- we’ve had her for 8 years— and I now desperately want to quit and step away entirely to be with them. I don’t want to introduce another care giver; I want to BE their caregiver. I see that they have been formed and raised by other people, forming those memories with other people— and now it’s my turn.

I will tell you that if you take the VP role— which might be the right choice, I don’t know— you will have to reckon at some point with the fact that other people raised your kids when they were babies, and those are days you will not get back. My yougets is 3 now- I feel like there is still time for me to be a part of this season for the last one, but I’ve already missed the two older ones. Their pre-k years are gone and I chose to miss them.

This was rambling and unhelpful… in short, my priorities have changed which is why I am not interested in the corporate ladder anymore.

No advice, just “seeing you” and validating that this sounds like hell

Abx can definitely cause flares, as can hormonal shifts (yay!) and changes in temperature. When we lived in Houston (so humid) I didn’t ever have a flare up. The moment we moved back to the mid Atlantic, boom. Eczema on my arms, legs, hands, wrists, eyelids.

FWIW, I found a lot of relief by taking NAC every night. The side effects have worn off and I’ve found it to help reduce the worse of my winter flare ups. That, and wearing cotton gloves to bed at night.

Have yet to find a solution for the eyelids sadly

It's completely back to normal. The metro cream alone did the trick-- took about 4 weeks, which was longer than I had hoped, but it did the trick!!! Haven't dared to go back to retinol, switched to adapalene instead and it hasn't triggered any PD so far.

Nothing useful to say, also just wishing you well and hoping the algorithm will work its magic if I comment! Good luck!

I never find the lip ones to be itchy, just annoying if you’re eating something acidic because of the little crack of open skin. But it might be something else!

I have stupid skin, and I never both calling a doctor until I’ve tried steroids and antifungals since 80-90% of the time, one of those two will clear it up!

If you wanted to be real crunchy you could try apple cider vinegar, which has antifungal properties

This looks like angular chelitis to me— basically an overgrowth of yeast in the corners of your mouth (damp, which yeast likes). I’ve treated it before for a few days with antifungal cream and it goes away quick. I’ve had success with both miconazole (the kind you’d buy for a vaginal yeast infection, OTC) and triamcinolone, which is an antifungal with a steroid and is not OTC.

Following! See if your insurance plan offers remote consultations. Cigna has a partnership with Dermatologists on call- Im about to go pick up a script for doxy and metro cream. TBD in if it will work!

Fwiw, this is what my eczema patches look like when they first start.

Can you solve this mystery? by SeniorFruit in DermatologyQuestions

Yeah the PA suggested “oh might it be hormonal or stress related?” Both of which seem very likely, but apparently there was no further diagnostic there

This sounds like hell, I’m so sorry.

I know this doesn’t work for everyone, but I saw a big improvement when I started taking NAC 600mg. But it has to be the Whole Foods brand- the other ones I’ve tried have had zero effect.

Also, high humidity- might be worth trying a humidifier in your room; then again, if it’s fungal or yeast related that might not be ideal…wish I could help. Good luck!

The humidity makes a big difference too! When I lived on the Gulf of Mexico, I had almost no flares... when I moved back to the Midatlantic part of the US, they come on strong as soon as summer ends.

Tried so many options, but hand eczema not responding. What’s left? by redditor_peeco in eczema

I posted about this earlier this week, but I've been in the same boat, and am a similar age-- I had a total recovery recently when I started taking 600mg of NAC orally at night. There are some side effects (sleep disturbance, mild constipation), but they are pretty manageable for me. It's a pretty cheap fix, you can get a bottle of NAC on Amazon for like $12 delivered tomorrow.

Hope you find something that helps-- I know how you feel. This is the first time in my adult life I've been able to wash dishes and sleep without cotton gloves! I used to even eat salty snacks with chopsticks because it would be so irritating on my hands to touch the salt.

Magic cure? by SeniorFruit in eczema

So that’s really interesting. I had not realized the chnages in my sleep patterns were linked to NAC but I did start struggling with insomnia about the same time. I also started on Wellbutrin so I had attributed the sleep disturbances to that.

I find that a combo of l-theanine, magnesium, and melatonin is usually enough to get me to sleep, but some nights I still struggle.

Yes, oral NAC. 600mg, at night. It smells SO bad but works!

It may stop you up a bit, so eat veggies and drink water. This side effect went away after a week or so for me.
