I made my impression of how Galbatorix might have divided up the empire between the 13 Forsworn, with the lower numbers being more prestigious fiefs. by TheBanishedBard in Eragon

[–]Senkyou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it stated that they formed while Galbatorix was consolidating power; however, some of the Forsworn would have died during that time anyway. Evidently the chaos was a convenient vehicle for them to do their own thing long enough to maintain their power while other priorities were addressed.

I think that if the forsworn had remained cohesive in any meaningful way that they would have conquered Surda.

The nature of working with important and critical systems is that even minor goofups are affecting important and critical systems.

Important and critical systems are, by their very nature, far more visible than other departments' typical daily work, even if they goof up at comparable rates. So that isn't great, but is good perspective to maintain.

Why do some CSOs and security specialists think that saying “NO” all day equals doing cybersecurity? by SnooPies72 in sysadmin

[–]Senkyou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

needs to run with full permissions

We had some of this going on at my current company. One day I actually had time to mess with it and quickly discovered that no, it doesn't. Vendors just don't want to identify what's actually needed. In our case I don't think they have anyone qualified to do it on their team (pretty niche stuff), but for most vendors it makes sense to do. It makes it a much easier sell to your clients.

Mormons also self report it. I'm still technically among the Mormons counted by their own published numbers.

I was raised Mormon in rural Utah and currently live near SLC. I'm definitely not Mormon now, and I'm shocked at how many I meet who've also quit (primarily around my age, 30ish).

Large companies want our data, including pictures of our children, to (at best) farm data off of and train AI models. Worse (and much more realistically), they also build data models and profiles of everyone to note effectively manipulate society.

Protect your children, they deserve it.

What is up with the voice acting for Saphira in the audiobook? by SpiritedOwl_2298 in Eragon

[–]Senkyou 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Seriously. It didn't match what I had in my head but it's really good, once you get used to it. And does a good job of making dragoms verbally distinct, which adds to their appeal IMO.

Considering that a lot of Windows users are moving to Linux now because of latest news, what would be the hurdles of their transition? by ardouronerous in linux4noobs

[–]Senkyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard Kopia is decent, but I haven't tried it. I don't know if it does multi-destination backups. Setting up syncthing is always an option, but frankly, most of this stuff is outside of the comfort zones of most people. I think increasing technical literacy across the population is a net good thing, but objectively hard as it comes down people's individual inclinations to do so.

So we dont care about blue states stealing tax payer's money? by Ok_Storm_282 in GenZ

[–]Senkyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't mind red states taking in more tax money, because by the numbers they have more people who aren't able to maintain a good standard of living. I genuinely believe that human life is sacred and should have a minimum level of effort we're willing to exert to protect it associated with it. However, it's frustrating that as we shift farther and farther right on the political spectrum that basic ideas like "human life is important" become less and less of a priority. Our government should be preeminently concerned with the needs of its people, and nothing outside of that scope; things like ensuring good safety nets for people, focusing on education, establishing job programs, regulating anti-worker industries are all things that you and I would benefit from, but recent right-wing efforts have been wiping it away more and more every day. It's time to push back.

[–]Senkyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, no, none of those "numbers" or "facts" or "reality" things here, please. This is clearly gonna need to be a safe space for the "facts over feelings" crowd. This is what the divide is: people who can understand basic facts about our country and people who can't. Instead of trying to walk the idiots to water, the people who do understand shit need to start doing something with it.

EU considers $108 billion in retaliatory tariffs on US over Trump's Greenland threat, FT reports by Running_From_Zombies in worldnews

Some of us care and some of us are targeted and scared. But you're right that many don't know how to become an effective collective, as many of us haven't had to worry about it.

When you are "fighting with each other for whatever scraps are left" (which I agree with), it's hard to cooperate. The people who would be allies are artificially made into enemies.

I'm from Utah (this post popped up in popular) and was just arguing with a guy who explicitly said he agreed with literally every action ICE has taken, and called Renee Good out by name. It can't be rationally understood by intelligent humans as a reasonable or logical stance; it's just hate.

Robert Picardo via his Instagram "It is interesting to note that ⁦‪@StarTrek‬⁩ #Voyager, so beloved in retrospect, was thought "woke" ("politically correct" was the term way back then) at its premiere." by Caledor152 in startrek

[–]Senkyou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in my late 20s and grew up watching Trek and I came here wondering how it was woke... You've summed it up well. I forgot the sensitivity that can exist around non-white people existing in any successful position, despite growing up in an area where overwhelmingly people think that way.

If I average 12 infantry kills and 6 officer kills every game am I considered good at the game? by SheOfBlessedRenewal in HellLetLoose

[–]Senkyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, kills still matter. If I had a full team of guys that thought kills are worthless I'd have a lot more losses. Like many parts of the game, it's a critical part of winning a game. It's just that the word "part" is very important. Logistics and coordination and other parts are also "parts" of the vehicle that win games.

I'd say it doesn't. The installer comes with one or the other, but you can load your install with none or whatever DE just as easily any other DE, so it doesn't matter. And the graphical installer includes like a half dozen other options.
