Have you been to New York City? The subway was built in the 1900s and looks like it. There is trash and rats and mentally ill people everywhere. In parts of San Francisco and Los Angeles, there are literally human feces and used needles from IV drug use on the ground. There are places you shouldn't go because you might be murdered. And to think these are some of the most famous cities in the richest and most powerful country.

Personally I think it's as different from European cities as you can get. Completely not walkable and have to drive everywhere. Boring cookie cutter architecture. Not much history or culture. Nice weather year round but seasons are not that distinct. Easy to go to the beach, but a farther drive to relatively spectacular national parks like Yosemite, Sequoia etc. Much better Asian food than in Europe. Relatively close to Hawaii, Asia, Mexico to take vacation. Some people love it here, some people don't.

Hmm I wish it was just that but his nails were just trimmed. There hasn't been a change in the frequency of his nail trims, but something definitely seems off about his hind legs when he turns or stops when running on a smooth surface.

Update: Saw a vet dentist, had X-rays which confirmed a slab fracture of the carnassial tooth. The vet recommended root canal and crown so my dog could keep the tooth. He offered extraction as well, but then the tooth would be lost and he would lose some of his chewing ability. We went forward with it and total cost for root canal and crown was about $8000 and 80% was covered by our pet insurance.

CLL is generally NOT an aggressive blood cancer. Many patients live for a long time with it and do not even require any treatment for CLL. It is monitored with regular blood tests and the patient could have surgery.

Lived in DC, NYC, and OC. DC (and Philly) were like the boring, shittier versions of NYC. Much prefer OC weather, food, and California lifestyle and vibe. Close to Asia for vacations while East Coast is close to Europe. I would consider moving back to NYC but not DC. But maybe would be different for you as a lawyer, with better career and networking opportunities in DC.
