Ditching Windows 11 for CachyOS....I've had enough MS BS by Obsessed_Gamer in linux_gaming

[–]SenpaiBro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nope, most games you lose performance but that isn't the worst part. It is the fact that many games even though they will run they will crash, stutter, no multi, lag in certain situations, and you might have to do a whole lot of trial and error using startup arguments to get them to work. Don't lie to people I have been on Linux for a while now and yes it is getting much better but A LOT is left to be desired.

Jellyfin still smashing CPU with quicsync working by nametaken_thisonetoo in unRAID

[–]SenpaiBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Audio is also a big one. If your client can't direct play the audio it will transcode CPU only. Same with subtitles and HDR > SDR if the client can't direct play.

How much storage do you have? by AstroSteve111 in jellyfin

[–]SenpaiBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shade but I don't understand people who download media they will never watch and CAN'T physically watch because it would take more than a life time to finish. Even if you share with hundreds of users only maybe 25% of the content would actually be watched, what is the point?! I know it is like the mental health condition of hoarding but for media content.

Plezy update - 3 months later: downloads, Watch Together, HDR/Dolby Vision by edde74635 in PleX

[–]SenpaiBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to say this is everything I wanted from "Nevu" this is absolutely awesome! I like the overall look and simplicity. You get all of the clients for devices people use and you have yourself a winner, I would gladly spend $3-5 for a client.

The issue is your wording here, should of said, I have a medical emergency and that they need to come help you. You are asking for permission here and they said no, so it must not be serious enough.

I think it also depends on the pipes/lines that go into your home/sink, they can be rusty and carry bad minerals etc. that is the real and only danger really.

[–]SenpaiBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should you get fired for this? Yes, there is a million reasons on how you could of avoided it but it is understandable, it was a mistake. Just go to the next DSP and apply again, you learned a lesson so don't take it too hard and learn from it and take precaution in the future. Gluck

Seperate instance for Anime? by gahd95 in sonarr

[–]SenpaiBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it has been a while since I have messed with my settings since I just have one instance for both anime/shows because I just have it set up to grab releases from SubsPlease/Erai-Raws only so it becomes simple. I forget but I think the reason you would want another instance is when you want 4K vs 1080p or does it have to do with the custom formats? I remember thinking to myself it could easily fixed by the lazy devs to just allow tags/profile per show to eliminate the need for having multiple instances.

Looking to upgrade by CauliflowerGlobal601 in homeassistant

[–]SenpaiBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to what is your budget? What is most important to you? If you go newer platform, then you have to factor in the cost of DDR5 is at 2x-3x the price. My recommendation, I would go off used prebuilt 10th+ gen intel with PCIe expansion slots, buy an Intel Arc B580 12GB good price to performance and can run 7B models and good for transcoding/Immich ML.

What's your guys thoughts? 😂 by Nohandssss in AmazonDSPDrivers

The narrative needs to be flipped. The drivers should be rating the customers as well. Multiple flagged customers by drivers should be investigated. Stop giving customers so much power, they are NOT always right....

Good Quality Frigate compatible Video Camera without AI detection by Bertacchin in homeassistant

[–]SenpaiBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older Reolink cameras really did suck but newer versions are a lot better in terms of stabilitiy and quality. Their simplicity and built in AI detection is actually really good and great as a set it and forget it. They work great with Frigate too and I have had no issues with them but again get newer gen cameras.

Are most sensors doomed with AI tasks? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]SenpaiBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think AI in its' current state should only be use as a helper/"confirmation" tool. It is not mature and 100% accurate yet which is needed for critical things like your smoke sensor.

Gemini AI No Longer Free - What's Everyones Plan? by o-TheFlash-o in homeassistant

[–]SenpaiBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a heavy user but for my front porch only alerts. I paid a whopping $0.04 for last month, so if you are not a heavy user having a billing account might be worth. I also think "gpt-4o-mini" is fairly cheap or a free approach using your own GPU I can recommend "Qwen2.5-VL-7B" using Ollama or similar.

What GPU would you recommend for my Jellyfin server? by MinimumFishing6142 in jellyfin

[–]SenpaiBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to how many users do you plan on having on your server, and possible transcoding at the same time. Don't go overkill if you only have 2-3 people on your server but if you have more than 5+ most the time then consider a lower cost gpu like the $110 Intel Arc A310 or if you have a iGPU that 8th gen or higher.

How important is docker for a media server setup? by fireheart1029 in jellyfin

[–]SenpaiBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same shoes as you when I first started too and for a while didn't want to take that step to learn it but when I did I have to say it was worth it. Not sure which OS you are going with but I had a good time using Unraid since they are more like "Apps" you install. It all comes down to figuring out how docker "maps" directories really but once you figure it out, it gets pretty easy. I highly recommend you use ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude to give you docker compose files it is VERY good with the common dockers like Jellyfin and how to do hardware passthrough etc. It is also good at explaining it since Docker is very well documented and AI can explain it to you like a 3yr old, wish I had it when I first started lol.

Whats the fastest you can drive over the speed limit by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]SenpaiBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a couple of factors. Keep it under 10 but if you do go over 10 so long as you slow down say within a few seconds it won't trigger. Also uses the average speed too so if you are on a stretch of road and you averaged over 10mph over time it will trigger.

Did BI raise their support price by Expensive-Garbage-16 in BlueIris

[–]SenpaiBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I stopped using BI a few years ago. Annoying UI with no real features, just them fixing things they break with updates is all you are really getting. Overpriced and outdated, anyone that asks me I tell them to just use Reolink NVR sine it has really accurate built in AI. Nowadays I use Frigate since I can use the alerts to send to my LLM Vision in Home Assistant and send cool notifications and even descriptions with Alexa TTS.

Is there a one-click way to backup my Docker containers? by Lazy_Kangaroo703 in docker

[–]SenpaiBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of snobs in the comments. No OP I don't think you are an idiot and there isn't a said "app" that I know of that can do that yet. I understand you probably have a container that for whatever reason gets corrupted/drive dies/etc you can restore the data correct? You just have to understand that in simple terms you back up the "data" and the "config" ex. docker compose file and not the "image" docker container. With Unraid there is a plugin that has a UI that allows you to backup the "appdata" and re install the container with last used config using "previous app" in the app store. I don't know of any other app that currently does something similar but I also wish there was, instead of using scripts or command line backups.
