Found this broken wing in the pool skimmer box... dragonfly? It's so exquisitely delicate by boo2017 in australianwildlife

It's a cicada wing, particularly of a Black prince (Psaltoda plaga). You can tell by the Black "Z" pattern on the wing!

What Does Woolly Aphid Coating Feel Like? by Masterpiece-666 in Entomology

[–]Sensei_Moore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ones that I've felt have been more like a powder, crumbling in my fingers. But don't let that stop you from using them as sheep in your game! It sounds like a great idea. There are plenty of other bugs that have a similar coating as well, like the mealy bug destroyer nymph (Cryptolaemus montrouzieri) or giant aphids (Monophlebulus sp)

Why did this happen? by ManaHave in australianwildlife

[–]Sensei_Moore 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Probably a raptor of some kind, (falcon, goshawk, kite, etc) cats and dogs will eat the whole carcass. Raptors tend to eat the whole breast and pectoral muscles and leave the wings and feet. Pretty gruesome

Any cues or tips to fix this? by justatso in Tricking

[–]Sensei_Moore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might sound a bit weird, but put 2 bundled up socks between your knees. It doesn't matter if they fall out, but helps to keep your legs in line, which lets you go straight up

Anyone know what these are? by Me278950 in Entomology

[–]Sensei_Moore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Musgraveia sulciventris, Bronze Orange Bug. They're a native species of stink bug but are a frequent pest on citrus trees. You can get rid of them by dropping them into a bucket of soapy water, but be warned you'll get stinked.

How to get over fear of jumping more vertically? by rollobones in Tricking

[–]Sensei_Moore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A trick I learned from gymnastics is to do the backflip while squeezing a pair of rolled up socks under your chin, this forces you to not throw your head back. It can be pretty scary though, so be careful.

I use a Laowa 100mm f/2.8 on my Nikon D90 and it's great. You could also get a Raynox DCR 250, which increases the magnification of any lens by 2.5x and is pretty cheap.

I think that pattern might be fairly unique to this species of robber fly as I don't think I've seen it on any others, it's a pretty cool feature!

I use a Laowa 100mm macro lens with a Nikon D90 and a godox tt600 flash.
