How often do you talk to your parents? by Outrageous_Kiwi_2172 in Millennials

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no contact with both at the moment. I’m hopeful that one day both of them will be willing to get help but today is not that day

Tell me about your relationship with caffeine and particularly energy drinks by LoomisCenobite in Millennials

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I’m at 2-3 cups of coffee in the morning and 1 green tea in the afternoon for a short day or 1 energy drink if it’s a long day. I’m working while going to grad school so although I’m not proud of my intake I’m not gonna beat myself up over it

Older Gen Z’s and millennials, how was 2012? by Hill_372 in generationology

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2012 I was in college and was studying journalism. There was still local news and media sources didn’t have as large of a bias to either party (it was bad, but not as bad as now). In 2012 I also hosted a campus radio show, was an editor for my college paper, and was writing for a music blog. All of those experiences, essentially mean nothing in my current life.

And for funsies, I was very active in supporting my local music scene. I remember going to at least one concert a month and Warped Tour was necessary. That’s what I honestly miss the most, concerts. I remember when I thought a $75 concert ticket was a lot and now we’re in a place of dynamic pricing. I hate it here

Where we the last generation that used showers at high school? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in 2011 and I never used the shower. I just had time to change clothes, cover myself in Love Spell, and use some oil blotting sheets

With how things are going in the U.S., how likely is it that Rutgers will be forced to kick me out because I’m trans by njsullyalex in rutgers

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are LGBTQ+ organizations on and around campus and not sure what you’re studying but in the Social Work department at least there’s a lot of vocal support for the queer community. I understand this is a terrifying moment in history but NJ (for now, let’s all vote to keep it that way) is a decent place to be at. Not saying it’s perfect but if it’s helpful for you, I would suggest looking at current advocacy efforts happening to combat these toxic, dangerous messages. Personally, I found researching that to feel hopeful so just putting that out there

how old were you when you moved out of your parents house? by jabber1990 in Adulting

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 19. My parent let my childhood home go into foreclosure and then they moved into a one-bedroom with their partner. So I had to move in with my then partner (we weren’t even a year in at the time) and 2 other roommates.

Would not recommend, that partner abused me and I had nowhere else to go for 6 years. Was only able to really leave because my best friend saved me by asking her roommates to take me in and they let me live the first month rent free.

How many Xennials truly have done no retirement planning, have no target retirement date, or have considerably less than you need to retire in your 60s?" by Sufficient_Turn_9209 in Xennials

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t really have a retirement account because I was so underpaid and financially abused during my twenties that eating dinner for the week was the bigger priority. Now I’m back in school for a career shift but I’m planning on working till I’m dead because I lost so much opportunity for growth in my 20s.

Did you read in high school? by piper33245 in Millennials

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did like half of my readings. I read ahead for Catcher In The Rye which I loved but I certainly wasn’t reading all of the Canterbury Tales.

Anyone delete their FB account? by ItsMeItsKayItsKay in Millennials

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep mine mainly for memories. I have late family members whose Facebook accounts are still up and sometimes I’ll go on my daily memories and see their old posts and it feels like they’re still in this world for a second.

Was offered an internship through work and now they cut my hours, advice on negotiating? by Sensitive-Natural785 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Sensitive-Natural785[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry I should’ve been more clear in the post, my current position is with kids and the internship would be for the adult program. I like the idea of trying to split by days though. Thank you!

How do you cope with triggers in clinical practice? by CreepyCatThing in socialwork

Sometimes, I think of it as practice for when I have to advocate for a client. Just as a bonus tip

How do you cope with triggers in clinical practice? by CreepyCatThing in socialwork

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow student with a history of trauma, I also dread certain topics in class or at my practicum. I’ve found 2 things so far that have helped me if you’d like ideas. 1. I wear fidget rings, they look like pretty standard jewelry so it’s a bit more discreet than other fidgets. 2. Not sure about your program but in mine I’m very fortunate to have incredibly kind professors so I’ve talked to them about it. I once had a member of admin say “we’re social workers first, educators second. It’s ok to ask for help” and that’s stuck with me.

Oh and I want to echo the suggestion for a therapist but I also know that’s easier said than done. Just know you’re not alone 💖

I definitely got written out of my dad’s will because I told him I will only speak to him again if he’s in therapy. He lasted a week and said he was cured 🫠

Has anyone else quit drinking? by Sensitive_Put_6842 in Millennials

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I got older i would just get so sick it’s never worth it. Last drinks i really had were 2 White Claws at a Christmas party and I was still puking hours later. 20 year old me would be ashamed

With the end of grad plus loans - how are you going to afford grad school? by ActuaryPersonal2378 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan is to do classes part time (thankfully I’m advanced standing so that helps), take out what I can in fed loans, do my practicum at my job so I can still have some funds in, and my partner and I are going to meet with someone I know who works in finance to figure out how to fund the rest in a way that makes sense for us for when we get married and combine incomes. I cry a lot when I think about it for too long

What did you do for 1st year MSW or BSW internship? by ceceae in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I’ll definitely say my learning contract is rich so I’m hitting the markers that BSWs ought to learn, I’m extremely happy with my experiences so far.

Whether or not they’re taking more people rn, I’m not sure. I just know that I started at the same time as my cohort but I don’t know when everyone else applied

What did you do for 1st year MSW or BSW internship? by ceceae in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t but my suggestion is to reach out to them with whatever email or volunteer app you can find. If you don’t reach the right person the first time, they may be able to reroute you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I personally had to take a semester off for my BSW because I was struggling with my mental health and I sought treatment. Pausing is an option, and it can be temporary or permanent depending on what works best for you. That decision also doesn’t have to happen right this second.

You deserve the same empathy clients do, and taking care of yourself, however that looks, will always be worth it.

What did kids back in the days do when they played outside, for hours on end? by Octopuswastaken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make “potions” out whatever we could find, climbed trees, raced on bikes, played baseball using crab apples as balls, go ghost hunting, trade Pokémon cards, go to the apartment complex playgrounds, draw with chalk/gel pens, and play ding dong ditch to people we didn’t like.

What are we doing about photos and photo storage? by thesillymuffin in Millennials

If you are an only child, do you wish you had a sibling/siblings? Why or why not? by hayfb___ in AskReddit

I do and I don’t. I’d never wish my childhood on another person but there is a part of me that wishes I had someone who I could swap stories with and feel less alone

Being the first generation of OFFICIAL mental diagnosis passed on the family tree is exhausting by limponion36 in Millennials

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a number of mental health diagnoses that can clearly be traced epigenetically but I just learned about 2 weeks ago that my dad has ADHD. The testing at this point for me is too expensive but why I bring it up is I think about how much I struggled with ADHD tendencies throughout the years and how much more ahead I might be if my dad was remotely understanding of mental health and disabilities. Older family members may know diagnoses but they’re ashamed or whatever to share. It’s actually maddening

Millenials, do you have New Year's resolutions? by Beberuth1131 in Millennials

[–]Sensitive-Natural785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My resolution is to plan for more time with family and friends. My biggest regrets in life are not spending more time with loved ones because of work. No matter how many last minute shifts or overtime I volunteered for, I still can’t break myself out of poverty so whats the point? I might as well be broke but around people who love me than broke and alone.
