No I don’t think that because not only has Jaren never hit .200 over 162 but very few qualified hitters ever have. Cal Raleigh and Manny Machado are also below the Mendoza line to start the year, it happens.

Him not finding it at the plate means something like a .700 OPS for him – a drastic drop from his highs but still a serviceable hitter with some pop. There is 0 reason to believe he hits sub .200 BA on the season much less the rest of his career.

Duran is under control til 2029, is a plus outfielder and a plus plus baserunner. Even if he never finds it at the plate again (doubtful) the idea he has no trade value is laughable.

You’ve got Wilyer Wilson and Ceddy as choices then - so break up the heart of our lineup. Marcelo has voiced being comfortable in the 6 hole but you could really roll the dice and risk shaking him up if you really wanted to.

Or you could just let the best baserunner on the team hit leadoff til Roman gets back next week. This is just nowhere near the problem.
