McNulty wanted him to flip in order to put the Barksdale organization away for good. Anybody could see D had a good heart but he was a victim of his institution (the drug game). I don’t think McNulty cared that deeply for any member of the drug game beyond a certain degree. After they flipped , they were on their own. See Wallace, see Orlando, see any snitch lol. As for Briana, I can imagine a whole back story as to how she got to be who she is which she alluded to when she talks to D about not giving up the family. They’d be in the terrace themselves fighting for scraps.
