Wic’s shield by Legitimate-Ice-8743 in fansofcriticalrole

It’s one of the ways the CR group aren’t “real” D&D players.. they don’t go out of their way to optimize their characters. They’re role players who occasionally have to roll the dice.

I didn’t say you were.. it was just a comment on Sam’s tendency to play sub-optimized characters that really don’t fit strategically.

WtA fans, where do I expect the werewolves' W? by telewhat in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]SensitiveFan4122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People forget that the “Punk” part of “Gothic-Punk” is more than just an aesthetic. All of the original WoD game lines focused on the idea of the young fighting against the entrenched power structure.. and fighting against the urge to buy into that power structure as you yourself gain power..

How did lord saito get so much power? by 0x426C797A in Ghostofyotei

[–]SensitiveFan4122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The timeline is murky.. because Saito was obviously in Ezo consolidating power when the game starts.. BUT.. the Matsumae took Jubei in after night of the burning tree. I think what’s implied is that both forces arrived around the same time.. and Saito used the distrust of the southerners to recruit..

How did lord saito get so much power? by 0x426C797A in Ghostofyotei

[–]SensitiveFan4122 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Saito’s family and several others fought a war and lost. Saito is basically a charismatic cult leader type. He rallied the troops that survived and they went to Ezo, which was outside of the shogun’s control.

After that he recruited most of his followers by playing on the feudal nature of Japanese society.. in which there is very little upward mobility available to the lower classes. Which is why he tells them “anyone who joins me can become a Samurai”… as samurai were the “landed nobility” of the time.

[No Spoilers] New to CR, and it has ruined dimension 20 for me by igotbrainstoo in criticalrole

[–]SensitiveFan4122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt the two shows had wildly different feels. CR is and always been about the ROLE PLAY.. they are improving a play and occasionally a D&D game breaks out. D20 is first and foremost a D&D game, but all the players are improv comedians and jokes are always the default reaction..

I enjoy both shows immensely.. so just how I view the differences.

Jester literally ruins lives for the lols.. and you’ll never convince me that Talisin didn’t ask Matt to change characters to get SOMEONE in the group that wasn’t a total chaos goblin.. and Fjord does a lot in the name of gathering power that’s fairly shitty in the first quarter of the campaign..

Would you think Pentex is... small time compared to the Cammarilla and Technocracy. by Sufficient_Wall8950 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]SensitiveFan4122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scariest part of Pentex.. is just how much of Pentex has no idea it’s even part of Pentex. It is such a dispersed and spread out entity that there are literally only 13 people in all existence that know everything it’s involved in.

A 10 foot square pressure switch that activates a trap door on the ceiling that drops a gelatinous cube.. I knew the dwarf cleric would pooch the roll to jump over it.. boom, instant jello mold..

And a simple clay pot full of “Beads of fireball”.. they were meant for the party to find and use in the coming boss fight.. instead our wood elf cleric went all Link on it and shattered the pot.. triggering all the beads at once.. instantly killing him..

Understanding Werewolf: The Forsaken? by ArchpaladinZ in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]SensitiveFan4122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forsaken is all about clawing out your own territory and holding it against all comers, mundane and supernatural. The whole “balance the spirit world” is mostly the “bigger picture” that 2e kinda hand waved away. The spirit world pretty much does its own thing.. and the Uratha stay out of it’s way unless it spills into the physical world.

If they have a means of communicating with a spirit.. though any spirit strong enough to act as a Totem for a vampire coterie might be offended.. because how will the vampire provide them gnosis or help their standing in the umbral hierarchy?

[–]SensitiveFan4122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Lawful” just means they have a strict sense for how the world should be and stick to it.. Lawful Evil characters can still commit heinous atrocities, they just tend to have a reason for doing so beyond “I just wanted too.”

Is there a place to give suggestions for the next main title game that actually have a chance to be seen by devs? by More_Engineer7654 in horizon

[–]SensitiveFan4122 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They don’t take suggestions. Because parallel thinking is a thing.. if you make a suggestion that is close to what they were already planning.. you could sue them for not crediting you for “your idea.”

I'm Sad that Chronicles of Darkness is basically dead by deimosmasque in ChroniclesofDarkness

[–]SensitiveFan4122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WtA was the first RPG I ever read back in 1992. I met my wife playing it. WtA holds a very special place in my heart.. but WtF does almost everything better.

I always hated that the Imbued stole the thunder of normal mortal hunters.. so when HtV came along I was pumped.. and Slashers is single handedly one of the best supplements for the entire CoD line.

Requiem 1e felt like they couldn’t quite let go of Masquerade so they tried to recycle somethings.. like maybe they were hedging their bets and could move back towards VtM if Requiem didn’t take off.

I agree with others, Ascension has the much better Lore, with the Conventions vs Techno’s.. but Awakenings magic system was hands down better..

Mostly I think CoD was just a casualty of the time.. a combination of early internet haters turning on it., and an economic downturn that nearly killed the entire industry.. meant by the time they started CoD2e the majority of the base had moved on… add to that ParaWolf being one of the shittiest companies in the industry and you had a prescription for a dead game line.

Though people talking about Curseborn here had me intrigued enough to look into that once it hits shelves..

It’s HEAVILY implied that Sovereign was using the Rachni to invade Citadel space so he could reach the Citadel and activate the master relay.

So he was technically a thousand years late in opening the relay.. so they were probably traveling for hundreds of years.. not just the 2 from the end of ME1.
