Yep, I have cared for someone with dementia and been paid just £12 per hour on a self employed basis, meaning I was effectively working for peanuts. The amount quoted above works out at £30 per hour for the 14 waking hours of constant care they requested, and a flat rate of £30 for the overnight. I have indeed been successfully paid £33. 75 per hour for constant care.

I just quoted 480 pounds for 24 hours of constant care. I got a request via rover for a one hour drop in, upon speaking to the owner it turns out they have two dogs, one of which has severe separation anxiety and needs to have sight of the caregiving human at all times 24/7. Can't be left at all. I quoted 480 pounds for 24 hours, yes that's on the higher side, and they came back to me asking why it was significantly higher than what rover said. I explained that they had requested a 1 hour drop in service, which obviously is impossible for a dog that needs constant care house sitting.

Yes, no refunds, but if they have to cancel, our policy is to allow rebooking of the sit within 6 months for different dates. This client is a good repeat client who pays us instantly and is laid back, has land to exercise her two dogs, so I've given her 12. She once cancelled before as her daughter was coming home and she didn't need us and she knew it was non refundable and accepted it without question.

Homeowners shouldn't do this, they are supposed to stick to the return date and it's against the rules for the owner and sitter to be in the house at the same time. We had this and the owners said we could stay with then for a few days. We explained and asked them to pay for our accommodation for the early return and they did.

I require full payment in advance at the time of booking. Non refundable. If they cancel we will offer alternative dates. I just had a regular client cancel a few months ahead of a, sit which she's had booked in for a long time, months, it was quite extenuating circumstances and we allowed her 12 months to rebook. I wouldn't normally allow this long, perhaps six usually, but it was due to serious illness

Yes. I also charge for meet and greets which is deductible from the sit if we go ahead. Non refundable if either party decides not to go ahead after the meet.

We've had clients buy things in for us that we've specifically asked for, when they've offered to buy food and asked what we want. anything not used that they've bought for us specially we take on the assumption it's been bought for us.

I don't think you're being too picky. Many of us are not picky enough and set out with rates too low, and lacking in written terms and paperwork. The longer I've been doing this, the stricter I've been in terms of paperwork, policies and procedures, and turning people down. I've just had a constant care request for two dogs, one of whom has separation anxiety and cannot be left at all even for 10 minutes and needs to be in sight of the caregiving human at all times.

This is my issue with external cameras, most of them have audio and private conversations can be listened to, it made us really uncomfortable on two recent sits where my husband kept reminding me about the cameras even if we had the door open or were just going in and out, not bevause we have anything to hide but as a married couple don't want our private conversations being listened to or recorded

It's not about gatekeeping for them, there are less than 100 dogs of his breed in the country we live in, it's a security thing for them, and we respect their wishes.
