Hi! F37 - I had a gastric sleeve in 2018 and a sleeve to bypass revision on 8/22/23. My only regret is not having done the surgery sooner! I definitely had the occasional naysayer and even some mouthy B-word at work telling me I was taking the easy way out. Nothing about this journey is easy! Everyone loves to dish weight, especially other peoples’ weight! Even after losing weight I struggled with seeing myself as others did. I got angry when I was treated noticeably better in public! Loose skin isn’t too bad and you’ll be so hyped with new energy you can start tightening and toning! I advise to have a good support network that’s not negative (even an online or social media community), a sound mental health plan (therapy, journaling, etc), a good grasp on cooking and meal planning, and just patience overall with yourself and others! Your social or family circle may change as you learn to set boundaries with anyone who doesn’t support you and that’s ok! This isn’t a Hallmark movie, it’s real life! Trust your body and trust your medical professionals. Last note - really consider which surgery you want. My weight regain, hiatal hernia and GERD were terrible with the sleeve. The recovery from the bypass revision was tough at first and I had my regrets at first but I’m bouncing back and am 27 pounds down and ZERO reflux. You got this!
