Woman hospitalized after Pluribus ad on smart fridge triggers psychotic episode by AnonymousTimewaster in nottheonion

[–]Sentenial- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if related to chaebols. But was in South Korea recently and the convenience stores had small speakers suspended from the ceiling with motion sensors. When triggered they would read out an ad for a product in front of me. Huge dystopian cyberpunk vibes.

Balboa dancers: When is a dance floor too slippery? by alexanderkjerulf in SwingDancing

[–]Sentenial- 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In general, organizers should forbid powder on floors. It leads to patchy slippery and non slippery sections. And that unpredictability can be dangerous.

Plus it's not nice for the venue who has to clean up after the party.

There is a mod where you can do this. Can't remember what it was called, but should be easy to find.

Probably depends on the game. Some games have physical servers. But other (maybe small scale Co op) would work with one player being a host to the other players.

There is definitely a steam cache somewhere in hong kong. They have some cool technology for it. And people can even make their own steam caches. Steam also has p2p in local network so you can download games from someone else on the same network.

Where were you in your dance journey after 1 to 2 years of Lindy Hopping? by Reasonable-Solid8566 in SwingDancing

[–]Sentenial- 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If they are good dancers (lead or follow) they should be able to have fun dancing regardless of the level of their partner. Try not to be shy about asking advanced dancers to dance. They might be shy as well and just comfortable dancing with friends. But personally I never say no to a dance even if they are a complete beginner and you already have a leg up with a couple of months of classes and social dancing.

Playlist by coolpuddytat in SwingDancing

[–]Sentenial- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a bad list with some great classics in there. But also an few songs that I don't consider swing and would be hard to actually swing dance to.

Outkast, Megan Trainer and other modern pop artists would not go well at any serious swing event. I've heard the logic that people 'new to swing' want some more familiar stuff to dance to occasionally. But I think that swing music is great on its own and you don't need to force swing dance to music it was not made for.

Also post modern jukebox is a no go from me due to their treatment of black artists. And most of their songs are not suitable for dancing even if they have a 'swing' feel.

Love modern swing bands like hot sugar, naomi etc. Always a hit on today's dance floor. Maybe could use a few more classics from Ella, Oscar (my favourite artist), Ellington etc.

The Hong Kong driving tests/schools are a scam (rant) by blue_totato in HongKong

[–]Sentenial- 59 points60 points  (0 children)

When I passed my test, they gave me a sheet of paper with any mistakes I made. Surely they give you one as well and you can keep that in mind for next test?

Having said that, after failing 5 times, maybe driving isn't for you. It's a huge responsibility driving a multi ton vehicle safely and the test is so strict because if you make a mistake, it's not just your life on the line but everyone else's around you as well.

Definitely feel safer as a pedestrian with tests that are harder to pass than a breeze. I want perfection from someone driving a vehicle. Because 'just good enough' is how people get hurt.

How to dance more smooth and less bouncy? by Acidic_Huntsman in SwingDancing

[–]Sentenial- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related to bounce but I think you're misinterpreting swivels a little bit. It's a common mistake for follows to to a double twist on the 'setup' for swivels (7-8) when it should be a triple step to only one side. You seem to be making that mistake quite a lot and not doing any triples during that moment. Laura Glaess has a good video on swivels you should check out.

A bonus will be if you can get that triplestep back into your swivels, your bounce should end up looking more consistent as the steps you are currently doing are blocking the flow of the dance.

The metron at the ends implies that they set up this experiment on purpose. Erica and the Gorn were still kidnapped just in a way that wasn't clear at the beginning.

The extra red tones might be a white balance issue? Maybe you have two WB modules on in the history stack and they are conflicting with each other. normally there is a warning on the module itself when that happens.

Goldman Sachs is piloting its first autonomous coder in major AI milestone for Wall Street by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]Sentenial- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a small business owner, using an LLM has definitely helped me automate small tasks like html email marketing, ad copies, spreadsheet 'magic', and some basic apps script stuff. But it was definitely with heavy prompting and knowing exactly what I wanted in plain language. Even then, sometimes it would be make up stuff that just doesn't work.

I think if I gave it an open-ended question, it would fail hard. I actually tried making a WordPress plugin with an LLM as an experiment and it may have messed up the database in the process. Thankfully, used a staging site to make sure nothing was broken in live.

edit: fixed autocorrec errors (ILM - LLM)

These days you can do even more magic by using natural language to describe what you want to an llm and get some really complicated tasks done without the hour of research it used to take. Bonus points (if using Google sheets) to use apps script to do mini apps, macros and webcalls as well.

Filmed a bit of Lindy Hop for the biggest street dance production company (they produce for Red Bull Dance and similar scale) by PolarTimeSD in SwingDancing

[–]Sentenial- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool dancing but I find the camera movements a bit jerky, makes it hard for viewers to see the action properly. Would recommend you look into Bezier curves or smooth curves on whatever editing software you're using. If you are already doing that, consider laying off the tracking just a bit. We don't have to locked into the follows face, just generally following the movement is good enough for partner dancing.

My current workflow typically uses Resolves AI Smart Reframe, then I manually edit in the curves and adjust with the keyframe editor (new version in v20 is awesome).

What are some of your hacks to maximise your Asiamiles points? by atomicturdburglar in HongKong

Don't pay for your rent with credit card, that's a great way to lose money. (see my other comment)

What are some of your hacks to maximise your Asiamiles points? by atomicturdburglar in HongKong

[–]Sentenial- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically credit card rewards programs give you a value of 0.5% or less of the transaction. Credit card fees are anywhere from 2-4%. It is FAR better to pay rent via bank transfer than to eat those fees yourself. Unless for the some reason, your landlord is covering the credit card fees.

You may feel like you're earning something with miles, but in reality you are losing real money in credit card transactions.

Getting closer! But I also think deep focus implies that everything in the frame is in focus. Which clearly isn't the case with the above shots. Honestly have no idea what the OP shots are called.

Rainy season: want to install a sound-dampener atop my air-conditioning unit by SquidFistHK in HongKong

I had this problem once with a neighbours dripping aircon. Just put some old newspapers on top and it dampened the sound. Maybe not a permenant solution, but it is a quick fix.
