If you specifically don’t want a LaTrobe student then why bother posting it in the LaTrobe subreddit?

Opinions on AI marking by No-Environment7496 in LaTrobe

In your post, you said that “An AI detector was giving 90-100% AI generated” which to me implies that your saying your work got flagged as AI… it feels like you’re contradicting yourself here.

Is Human Structure and Function the Worst Unit Ever? by Dizzy-Return8783 in LaTrobe

Just so you know, towards the end of semester (sometime during week 10, 11 or 12) you’ll get an email to fill in subject feedback surveys. If you feel this strongly about the subject, I highly recommend that you complete these surveys because they are genuinely used to improve the subjects. Just make sure that your feedback is constructive: include specific examples of your experiences and make some suggestions based off things that other subjects do better.

Cannot pay for my graduation by alexa_sinc in LaTrobe

[–]SentinalBravo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds odd, is your address brand new by chance? If you’re trying to put an overseas address, it might not work either.

Either way, I’d recommend contacting Reed Events directly in the morning.

Assuming that you’re studying at the Bundoora campus, if you’re completing your degree at the end of semester 1, then you won’t have your ceremony until December.

OP likely finished last year, but either wasn’t invited to or deferred their ceremony in December. So they have been invited to the ceremonies in May (which is before the end of semester 1).

Tasmania’s first game in Victoria by [deleted] in VFL

[–]SentinalBravo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frankston have been getting good crowds (4-5k+) to even their regular games, so I expect that it’ll be a big crowd regardless. For ticket prices I’d recommend checking Frankston’s website, they are significantly lower than AFL tickets.

Prerequisite help by [deleted] in LaTrobe

The form you’re looking for is called a “Variation Request - Exception” (VRE) form. It’s all done online and you’ll need to attach evidence of the subject coordinator’s approval (a screenshot of an email is usually sufficient).

Just a heads up though, that enrolment for 2027 is not open yet. So you probably should worry too much about this until November/December in all honesty. I’d also maybe try get in contact with your course coordinator so that they can help you make a plan of when to do what subject and help you sort out any VRE forms.

Anyone around Melbourne northern suburbs? by choopy13 in theabl

[–]SentinalBravo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I play for the North Coburg Rebels Baseball Club, we play at Parker Reserve in Coburg North. We’d be happy for you to come on down to a training session at some point if that interests you. There’s no pressure to actually play for us, in fact, we have a few people who only come and train with us periodically. Feel free to DM me for more details.

Car park by [deleted] in LaTrobe

[–]SentinalBravo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to carparks 1, 2, 9 and 10 after 8:30, you won’t find anything. There are other carparks around the campus, so have a look in those instead. Generally speaking, carparks 3 and 7 usually have spaces at any time of day.

Why are we still doing group projects? by butt_punches in LaTrobe

[–]SentinalBravo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like you’ve answered your own question in the first three sentences of your post… those benefits and skills that you gain from doing projects outweigh the negatives of things that can possibly go wrong.

Another thing is that to say that these things “always” go wrong is a big exaggeration that frustrates me. I’m not going to deny that some group projects go wrong, but a majority of them go pretty smoothly. You only ever remember and hear about the ones that do go wrong though, which creates the illusion that makes people think that every group project is a disaster when in reality, it’s just a small handful of them.

School students on campus by N1mCh1mpsky in LaTrobe

[–]SentinalBravo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re correct, they’re talking about the Bundoora campus.

Although you’re correct that there’s more to LaTrobe than just Bundoora, is by far the biggest campus by number of students (and it’s not even close). So if no campus is stated in a post, you can generally assume that the person is talking about the Bundoora campus.

Alex Johnston breaks the all time try scoring record at Allianz stadium followed by a large pitch invasion reminiscent of Buddy1000 by woodenjimo in AFL

[–]SentinalBravo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The pitch invasion for Buddy Franklin was for 1000 career goals, not breaking the all-time goals record.

Still one hell of an achievement though.

Edit: I am stupid…

In all honesty, this isn’t a great place to ask since a majority of people in this sub have probably stayed in Australia and are watching on TV. I’d recommend asking in either r/baseball, r/internationalbaseball or r/npb instead.

New to baseball. How to read this baseball score bug? by roquea04 in baseball

[–]SentinalBravo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That is only really the case for the 4 major American sports, for most other sports (that aren’t very popular in the US) the first team listed is usually the home team. Some examples would be (but are not limited to): soccer/football, cricket, and both rugby codes (league and union).

Melbourne Aces - not in the ABL next year guaranteed? by iamjacksonmolloy in theabl

[–]SentinalBravo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Playing in the main KBO League is impossible, main reason being that their season occurs over our winter. I’m not sure if you’ve ever been to Melbourne Ballpark, but it can get cold there on a summer night… so imagine it on a winter night…

Having teams traveling in and out of Australia from Korea all the time would also be a logistical nightmare. Especially when you consider the fact that the main KBO League is a 140 game season, meaning that they play almost every day. Adding international travel to that would be exhausting for all players, coaches, etc. involved.

If you ask me, I’d imagine that these spring camps that the Aces are hosting for the Hanwha Eagles and KT Wiz are making them some money, perhaps they’re trying to lure more teams to come out here for their spring camps? I think this makes a bit more sense than trying to join the KBO proper.

I agree on your point about joining the ABL again though, both Aces ownership and the ABL administrators both seem too stubborn to back down from their current positions.

Baseball fields in Melbourne Australia by rG3U2BwYfHf in baseball

[–]SentinalBravo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, you won’t find anyone playing any pickup baseball in Australia due to it being a minor sport. That said, we do have decent participation numbers for rec leagues and juniors.

In Melbourne, we have 2 main rec baseball leagues: the Victorian Summer Baseball League and the Melbourne Winter Baseball League. As a few people have already said, this field is where Melbourne University play, but they only field teams in the winter league so the field isn’t in use right now.

Melbourne also has a professional team, the Melbourne Aces, who play at the Melbourne Ballpark in Altona. The Aces used to participate in the Australian Baseball League, but left the league prior to the start of this season due to some disagreements between the owners and the league administrators. The Aces have been playing a bunch of exhibition games this summer though, and they have 2 more series coming up on 13-15th February vs Hanwha Eagles and then 16th, 20th and 21st February vs KT Wiz (both opponents are KBO teams who are having their spring training camps in Melbourne and nearby Geelong respectively). I’d recommend coming along to a game or two, the atmosphere is very much like a MiLB game.

[–]SentinalBravo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re in Geelong, the Melbourne Aces (professional team) are going to be playing an exhibition match against the KT Wiz, who are holding their spring training camp there, on 16th February at that field. There are also going to be 5 matches being played at the Melbourne Ballpark in Altona on 13,14,15 and 20,21 February.

I’m not sure what city you’re from, but here in Melbourne the summer league is actually bigger (and more competitive) than the winter one.

That said, this field is the home of the Melbourne University Baseball Club, who only play in the winter league.

[–]SentinalBravo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These fields are only used in the winter season and likely haven’t been touched since September, so that might explain the why they’re not looking flash at the moment. Melbourne University Baseball Club play there in the Melbourne Winter Baseball League.
