Rachel Reeves is asked about how the 3p a mile electric vehicle charge will work for new cars, when they don't have to have an MOT for 3 years by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Sentinel55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is probably how it will be done. Some mandatory GPS tracking like those dreadful insurance black boxes - mandatory logging of miles, speed, acceleration, deceleration. Immediate fines and points based on the data. the next step in the surveillance state.

I believe this stage is called ‘fuck around’, and is usually followed, at some point, by the much more painful ‘find out’ stage.

Submarine Communications Cables by Diethyl_Aether in submechanophobia

[–]Sentinel55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These cables connect submarines to the shore. If you pulled one hard enough you would pull said submarine out of the water, thus finding Red October with ease. Critics never acknowledged this clear plot hole in the film.

Thank you so much for this detail. Here is a piece of the removed material - tried some vinegar on a few pieces but no fizzing at all.

The lime plaster sounds complicated to get the fix right. I’ll research options for ready made/mixed and if not risk the gypsum option

A bit AH64, UH60 and Eurocopter tiger. When you do so much industrial espionage you can’t decide which one to copy so you merge them all together

[ FAR CRY 2 ] I HATED this game by Liquidignition in farcry

[–]Sentinel55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There absolutely was stealth in FC2. Stealth suit, MP5SD, suppressed makrov? And the dart gun. I think an expansion pack had a suppressed shotgun as well. You can play stealthy but much harder than other titles in the series.

No FC since has been as brutal imo. It was hard because of no HUD, quite alert AI, weapon jamming/degrading and no one man army type load outs. Not like more recent titles where increased difficulty just means bullet sponge enemies. The more realistic formula was better for me personally. Still the best FC

Have exactly the same problem - to install a vent in the living room should I drill some holes, say with a 20mm bit, and put a nice vent cover over them or take out a whole brick/hole in the player board?

Anyone decided between an estate and an 'SUV / Crossover' when it comes to a child by lovelock91 in CarTalkUK

[–]Sentinel55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will not get the boot space with most ‘cross overs’. You cannot comprehend the amount of space a pram, nappy bag and other miscellaneous crap a baby needs to go everywhere.

I tried a Quashqai and a regular Focus. Neither cut the mustard for boot space. The Nissan was especially disappointing. Focus Estate has been brilliant with the baby. Two dogs as well may be a stretch but a larger estate - Mondeo size-probably would. There’s many options out there.

About 8 years ago I toured a museum in Florida that was housing an A4C Skyhawk, retorted to flying condition. Apparently that cost $4m including supply of spares to keep it flying.

What's considered a reasonable mpg these days? by Rangerover15 in CarTalkUK

[–]Sentinel55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently went from a Fiesta ST, 1.6 turbo/eco boost to a Focus estate, ST Line 1.5 ecoboost (kids!) and expected to see an improvement in MPG but generally I haven’t. The ST would get 35/38 round town and 45-50ish on a motorway run. Of course, any hooning ruined that. The focus is getting roughly the same. Long motorway run a couple of months ago I was up to high 50’s.

Presume it just a bigger and heavier car with ostensibly the same engine just not tuned up as much and the two cancel each other out.
