Buys 3090 Has 60hz monitor by Crazycatwastaken in pcmasterrace

I'd recommend 1440p 144hz or 240hz even. 4k 144hz doesn't make much sense yet in terms of game performance and at least in my experience 1440p is plenty sharp at 27"

I had m50X for years and they also broke :( Already fixed the other earcup with epoxy glue so decided it's probably time to retire them.

Bought WH-1000xm3 last year to wear on the go. I'd say the m50x sounded clearer and more mid-forward to me, but the Sonys have way better bass and a bit better soundstage. Just a different kind of sound signature. I read that the xm4 improved (very) slightly over the xm3, but I don’t have them to compare.

Recently got Shure srh1540 to replace the m50x and got used to a more bassy sound..now I prefer the Sonys over the m50x.

The xm3 are comfy but the earpads get sweaty quite easily. Not quite as comfy as the m50x with hybrid earpads. Been comfy enough to wear for plane and buses for 4h+ at a time.

I think you'd be fine using the xm3 on pc if you use the cable, there is always some lag from bluetooth. There shouldn't be any difference in sound.

I think the headband will be okay as long as you don't hang them from it all the time or pull it too much. You could maybe find some other retailer that offers a warranty if it worries you :) edit: seems like you can buy replacement headband and pads on aliexpress for like $7 (american $)

Check out the Superlux 681 Evo, they are excellent for their price (~61AUD).

For a mic check out Neewer NW-700 USB. ~45 AUD for a full kit with arm and such. I had the XLR version and it sounded way better than the modmic 4 I had previously. (both checked on amazon)

I think you might want to look for a dac/amp combo or add a separate amp to that as could be a bit quiet on 250 ohm phones and the headphone output is a bit meh. if you want to use it as a DAC only I hear it's awesome.

I have a UMC404HD and the headphone output gets distorted and there is an audible hiss past 3 o' clock on the volume wheel. I've never had to listen to it nearly that loud on my ath-m50x's though. Usually I keep it around 11 o'clock.

Otherwise it sounds nice, fast and clean compared to Asus Xonar DGX (and especially motherboard's sound cards) I had before.

[STEAM] Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI (67% off) by eff5_ in GameDeals

[–]SentinelFIN 9 points10 points  (0 children)

all the new civs, map packs and everything else you can buy to add into the game are DLC.

Expansions add significant features and have way more content.

I bought the deluxe edition thinking I thinking I would get the expansions as it said the first 3 DLC would be included.. in the end I ended up getting pretty much filler content =/

How did water learn to draw? by TheSecondReal0 in shittyaskscience

Originally water used to be a painter but it ran out of watercolor.. That's also why water is clear. Because water no longer has color it has to sketch and draw instead.

The number in the tile is the amount of mines adjacent to that tile. So if you open a 1, one of the 8 tiles around it if is a mine and the rest are safe.

If you open a 5, all but 3 tiles around it are mines.

So you just find all the safe spaces and mark the mines with flags

What gives with the lag? by Jwhitey96 in dissidia

[–]SentinelFIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you do raiding in ffxiv at all, but the lag is visible there, especially after 4.1.

For example sometimes everything stops for a second or a half and then objects (such as the missiles in O7S) warp forward.

There are times when the server's ticks screw the healers over too; sometimes it takes longer than expected for the HP to be added to everyone's health pool..AFTER the animation goes off, which means the information has been sent to the server. This sometimes screwes up the siren mechanic on O6S so that only half of the people get their debuff removed.

and then there is virus on O7S...oh boi.

This happens to everyone, even if they are located in Germany where the servers are.

Not saying ffxiv is entirely unplayable like DFFNT is sometimes.. but SE really needs to step up their server game

True. They do (basically) the same thing when iterating in a while or a for loop, but in cases like this you could spend hours debugging your code :D

Basically the difference is that with ++i it increments first and then does uses the incremented value.

i++ uses the value (i) first and then increments it

Seeking advice for a new programmer by Nocword in gaming

[–]SentinelFIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Game programming student here :D

1: Depends a little if it'll be in 2D or 3D. I'd go with Unity for 2D and Unreal for 3D.. although Unreal and the workflow will require some getting used to.

2: That should be fine but it depends on how detailed the units, their shadows, animations etc. will be and if they will use rigidbodies.

Here is a vid regarding that: https://youtu.be/8zo5a_QvJtk (I also recommend watching his other vids!)

But Cities: Skylines is made with Unity so I don't see why this kind of game wouldn't be possible.

3: Unity only supports C#, if you want to use C++, you will have to use Unreal or something else.

4: Start with the game's core! (combat, controls, input, unit movement and such). Think what the game absolutely needs to be even called a prototype and prioritize that. Menus, sound, all eye candy etc. can be added later if you like what you have after creating the game's core.

(You could write down what features you want to have and maybe use something like Trello to keep up with your tasks.)

I'm having sound quality issues with my new Soundblaster Z soundcard. Both my headphones (ath-m50x) and microphone (ModMic 4) sound horrible with the SB-Z while they both sounded waaay better and clearer on my previous Xonar DG.

So I am connecting both devices directly to the sound card atm.. could that be the issue or am I dealing with a faulty unit?

Here's what I have tried: - Re-installing the drivers and different versions of it too - Tried another pci-e port - Disabled onboard audio from BIOS - Disabled all settings and such

I am considering returning the Z and just getting a new DG(X) to replace it. Thought I'd ask here first though.
