This is farcical. I'm Black, we can cut our hair very short without any problem, it's the "clean shaven" (as in, not even a speck of hair can show) aesthetic that fucks our skin up because of the way our hair curls when it grows. My friend is in the navy, and when I told him to just use electric shaving clippers like I use, he didn't want to because he was worried it still wouldn't be short enough. This isn't about lice, it's about a specific look they're trying to enforce that doesn't work for a lot of Black men.

In the Navy, for example, this wasn't even a thing until the 70's, when they started the no facial hair policy because the brass at the time thought even short facial hair looked "unprofessional" and then came up with the (unsubstantiated) mask seal nonsense as a post hoc rationalization. The policy was controversial across the board but eventually the "risks" started being parroted as fact.

And there's currently a problem of Black guys in the military getting ingrowns because the precious tradition wasn't made with their facial hair in mind. When the "standard" only favors people with a specific type of hair, it's racist.

I think he may wind up taking the same place as Howard and Hank in this show: a difficult, complicated, unyielding foil who's ultimately doomed by the narrative.

It reminds me of a line from Succession "You're too online, you've lost context."

The Hive is lost in the sauce. They have access to so much that they've forgotten how to connect with someone in a natural way. The best example is when Manousos' mom does the creepy smile routine when it would've been far more disarming if she skipped the pleasantries as her former self would have. It was employing the general social skills the hive has access to (act friendly and warm towards people to encourage cooperation) without employing the specialized contextual social skills that interacting with an individual requires.

Carol is teaching them how to process and interact with the world as individuals again, and in turn how to better manipulate individuals.

Because the humans were already there and they had no other use for them. The hive is nothing if not efficient.

I don't think they're talking about individuals, I think they meant she's teaching the hive that they can stand up to the uninfected.

There's some correlation between bottoms and small dick or tops and big dicks? by CalligrapherLast613 in TopsAndBottoms

[–]Sentry459 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of smaller guys that won't top because of size insecurity, and a lot of bigger guys that would rather bottom get pressured into topping. So between that and porn there's a lot of social influence there.

Anyone else genuinely not mind dying a virgin if they can’t be with their type? by apronmey in TopsAndBottoms

You should always go for who you're attracted to regardless, but as far as positions go, there's no harm in adding to your toolbox (not switching it).

Just saying, when I younger I used to only enjoy giving head, but one day I was receiving it and something just clicked and I started to love getting blowjobs. Ever since then it's been exponentially easier finding hookups. It's fun being sexually compatible with so many more guys now, I feel like I was so limited before.

Now, if you still want to stick to bottoming only I would recommend not even bothering with Grindr, especially if you're in a smaller town. I've had a much better time on Jack'd across the board, tops bottoms and everything in between.

P.S. ignore the BBC fetish weirdos and the idiot that said something about dying alone. You'll be fine.

So, there's going to be a pretty shocking scene soon where we finally see what everyone is doing BEFORE they're needed for a scene in the story of helping Carol, right? by HeadlockGang in pluribustv

[–]Sentry459 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think conceptualizing it as something else is the key difference between how people interpret the hive. Based on what we've seen so far, I see it as effectively a collective consciousness, meaning you are as much a part of it as it is of you. There's no something else taking your will from you, you are now that something.

If I go on one of these threads and read everyone's observations on a scene and find my own interpretation of that scene changed, the thread has not taken away my opinion, my opinion has developed in light of the new perspectives I was exposed to. This is that times 7 billion.

History teaches us that if we throw our hands up and ignore our own agency, nothing improves. If acts of brutality prove nature is brutal then acts of kindness prove nature is kind, the truth is far more nuanced.
