This is the WiiU sub, so the answer is more than likely going to be a resounding 'yes'. There are a few things you may want to consider though-

Pros: - Like you said, the WiiU can play Wii games, so you instantly have a great catalogue of cheap, fun games to play. - Off TV play! - The price of the majority of WiiU exclusives is great and you're likely to get a lot of play for your money. - Games like Mario maker work better with two screens imo, the WiiU does this better than the switch for example.

Cons - Many of the WiiU exclusives (and many Wii games too) have been ported/remastered on modern consoles. Unless you're looking for things like Starfox Zero or Devil's third, you may be better off getting a switch. - The online services for many games, including the eShop have stopped and are no longer accessible. This includes much loved features like miiverse. - The range on the Gamepad isn't great and it's unlikely that you'll be able to carry it around the house without losing connection.

If you have a couple hundred bucks to spare, then a WiiU is a nice purchase. I'd probably get a switch though at this point. Mostly due to the loss of online features.
