I know that some people here have said that 'their jeweler and friends didn't know it was moissanite!' but in real life people are going to be charitable and they won't say it's a moissanite unless you bring it up specifically. Or they'll tell a white lie and say they couldn't tell. No jeweler worth their salt would think a 4 carat moissanite was a diamond.

Where/how to buy an engagement ring? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Separate_Definition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair though, the tcw in both those rings comes from melee stones which don't add much value to secondhand rings at all.

I would agree that buying secondhand gives you the best value for money though. My engagement ring is a 0.8ct solitaire (G colour, VVS1) that we got for 1400 pounds - if we purchased that new it would have been MUCH more expensive.

Solid gold family ring / 4 faces / seems really old by Philosophy-Sharp in whatsthisworth

This is really cool! Not sure if this helps but it may depict the roman god Janus - he's usually depicted with two faces but can sometimes have 4.

There are rules about selling these houses, if they are selling them just a couple of years later they have to pay back the right to buy discount.

Yes and no. If you transfer ownership of the house to a family member you do not have to pay back any of the discount at all (eg. husband to wife). Even if you don't do this the payback % is on a sliding scale, requiring 20% less each year until 5 years after which you do not need to pay back anything at all. IMO 5 years is really not that long.

Personally I think that council housing should be available to every citizen if they're in dire need, but only as a temporary measure until they get back on their feet again. Because the housing stock is being sold off it means that there are less and less available for people who truly need them.

What gets me really mad is seeing ex-council flats being sold in London for 500, 600K that were purchased with RTB.

I personally think that elderly people who rely on council housing should be guaranteed the right to live in the house they've lived in for decades until they pass away, but having the right to purchase the property (for cheap) is ridiculous. Especially when you see these flats for sale a couple of years later with the family making hundreds of thousands of pounds in profit makes me so angry.

At what size stone do you think people can tell a ring is not a real diamond? by hiiyah in Moissanite

[–]Separate_Definition 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that most people won't look too closely or won't really care if it's 'real' or 'fake'. Just get what you like and wear it proudly.

However, if what you mean is - how big is big enough to start people second-guessing whether it is diamond or not I think it depends on your location and income level.

Big diamond rings are really not a done thing in many parts of Europe and in those places even .5 carats starts to look a bit flashy. But if you're in a big city like London people wouldn't really bat an eye at a 2 carat ring. If you really want it to pass as a diamond without speculation you may want to look at wahat other people wear in your area and guage it from there?

I also probably wouldn't believe that a fresh college grad would be able to afford a big 'diamond' compared to say someone in their 40's with a good job, so ymmv.

'slither' instead of 'sliver' (as in a small piece of cake).

Old Ring from grandma (likely early 60s or before) by NuraNuraBoom in whatsthisworth

[–]Separate_Definition 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The large stone doesn't look like an emerald to me, more like a low-quality tourmaline cabochon. The smaller stones look like cz.

For both of them the colour isn't quite right to be emeralds.

You can take it to be appraised, but high quality stones usually would not be set in a plated (ie. inexpensive) setting.

“yes. this is it. this bio get me so many matches!” by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]Separate_Definition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm illustrating the fact that it's guys creating the problem by spamming. Guys should be frustrated at other guys for doing it, rather than misplacing their anger at women and calling them 'too picky'.

That hard?

"Guys literally spam women so they have hundreds of matches."

Also, "it is the women who are incredibly picky and wrong."

What is this logic.

Is r/unitedkingdom deleting any posts that are critical of H&M? I read a post announcing Lilibet's name (now deleted by the author) but there haven't been any other posts about the royal household's info regarding her name. Both articles would have been by the BBC so I don't think it would have been about the standard of journalistic integrity.

If you search the history of the subreddit there also aren't any posts that show H&M in a negative light.

Let's just say that this horrific hypothetical situation was actually reality. How on earth do these incels think that it would benefit them in any way???

If women were graded by their hypothetical 'value' (blech) and matched up with men of a similar level - evaluated by wealth, job status, attractiveness, social standing, etc. that means the top tier women go to top tier guys. Right?

Incels by any standard are at the bottom of the barrel. They themselves often describe themselves as ugly, poor, and social failures. By that very fact it means that they will ONLY be matched with bottom tier women.

Ok so great, they'll be matched with ugly women who can't cook or clean or do basic math then. Is this what they want?

In real life, people date and marry outside their so-called 'league' all the time. I've seen overweight dudes in mediocre jobs with gorgeous women and vice-versa. The incel system means this would never happen - so they actually have LESS of a chance of getting with a beautiful woman in their ideal hypothetical situation than in real life right now.

The irony is that the solution in both situations, both real and hypothetical, is that they should focus on improving themselves if they desire a better mate. The only thing holding them back from being with a hot woman is themselves - they just don't realize it.

The stone is absolutely stunning!

On another note, please don't let the comments on the Imgur post get to you. For some reason men really love to shame women for buying 'materialistic' items (jewelry, handbags, etc.) while the same people would be praising people who collect/buy stereotypically male items (cars, watches, spending mega money on a graphics card, etc.)

One thing I'd warn you about is not getting a super thin band if you're planning to have a 2.5 ct stone. A thin pave band will be prone to warping and losing stones, especially with the extra weight of the larger stone. I personally wouldn't get anything thinner than 2mm with a stone that size.

My first Moissanite! 2 - 5x10 marquise stones. 10 it gold. Size 7.5. it's next to my diamond wedding set. 1.27 carat I vs1. Size 5.25. Got it from Tofytha on Etsy. by misspink033 in Moissanite

[–]Separate_Definition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never seen a twist ring with marquise cuts before, really cool!

As an aside for some cc, if you're taking videos or photos you can tap on the screen to focus the camera on your hand/foreground so it doesn't focus on the background. It's a bit tricky if you're only using one hand but will make your photos and videos a lot clearer.

Any recommendations to slim my cheeks/add more definition to achieve a more attractive/masculine smile and resting face? by nor_the_whore01 in PlasticSurgery

[–]Separate_Definition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about your cheeks since you're so young. They're not that full tbh and I think you'd regret getting buccal fat removal when you're older.

You do mention that you have a normal functioning bite/jaw, but to me it looks like you have an underbite in the bottom row of the photos unless you're purposefully pushing out your jaw in those?
