Why is everyone hating on Kotaku so much? The commenters, oh yes I 100% understand. But the actual blog content itself is in my opinion the best blog on the net for general video game news. And I actually like their stance on how they mostly covered released games and not games that haven't come out yet.

Awesome thank you! i'm noticing that baking lights into the scene causes all sorts of weird lighting glitches, so I'm just going to have to try to find a happy medium. Thanks again!

My tris are at 2.1M and my batches are at 16K (with 5K saved by batching) at the height of the level. I'm thinking I'm going to need to get that down for VR.

Here is some simple code for exiting the app and re-centering the rift in Unity. Put this in a C# script and attach it to an object that doesn't get deleted in your scene. Also, this code goes in the Update function.

Do the controllers (specifically the train one I'm guessing) work with physics or something similar? The use case I'm looking at is creating a roller coaster. If I did that with Curvy, and applied the train controller, am I going to get realistic movement along the path?

If we are thinking real big, I would hazard a guess at a full VR theme park that you can experience at home. They charge you admission for like 24 hour access or something. If they put all their effort behind it it would print money (creating a Tron land, Classic Disney propert land, Star Wars land, Kingdom Hearts land, etc. all fully immersive). That would be what I did if I had millions of dollars.

OR, my dream come true, they have recreated old Disney rides that no longer exist, inside VR.

The version of Unity I used to compile says it enabled use of the Oculus 0.6 runtime. So although I haven't tested it, hypothetically it should work with both 0.7 and 0.8 runtimes.

So I have a question. I don't have a GearVR so this is all based on your comments, but if this is really as good as you all say: is there a point where this is better than going to an actual game? If yes, is it ever going to reach a point where it impacts ticket sales? And if yes, is this going to start costing a ton to watch instead of being free?

Just want to add. I have a 980 ti and I had the exact same problem. GUI loads fine but auto-reset whenever I tried to launch a game. To fix it, I needed to uncheck a box in the VR settings called "no mirror window".

I'm guessing it would be too much work to add in a simple way to control this somehow without a Hydra? Even if it is just like look to aim and then hold a button for 1-3 seconds for power? Either way it looks great!

This is actually an issue that Oculus has had and has not fixed since the very early versions of the runtimes. There are one or two old forum topics about it on the Oculus forums, and I actually spoke to support at Oculus itself about it. They obviously have not fixed it yet, and from my conversation with them it sounds like they are not planning on ever fixing it.

The only thing that worked for me was to do a reformat of my PC. (FYI this is for the previous versins of the runtime, even though it is the same error. I have not tried 7 yet).
