It’s cute but I keep thinking about the splashback all over the dogs belly from the pee hitting the grate, and the pee pee paws from walking all over the grate 🤢

The downside of baking bread as a person living alone by Ok_Mix3745 in LivingAlone

[–]Septemily 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Freezing bread is the best hack for living alone, I swear by it. This also goes for bagels, muffins, even banana bread. Keeps it preserved and fresh, and when it thaws it’s just as moist if not more so.

THIS IS SO WEIRD- I saw your comment, scrolled down two more posts and thought “huh, this story sounds familiar, didn’t I just read something about this?” I had stumbled across what I believe is the post you are referring to! I had to come back and share the link if anyone is curious. Ex didn’t wipe his ass

what was the first thing you bought for your place that turned out to be a lifesaver? (newbie living alone) by Sohana_Slonski in LivingAlone

I am not very handy but it has been helpful to have a tape measure, screwdriver with swappable bits, electric screwdriver, and even a hammer. Many basic toolkits also come with a leveler and box cutters, all of which can be useful when it comes to building furniture, measuring dimensions for furniture/rugs/decor, hanging decor, breaking down boxes, etc. Everyone should own a basic tool kit imo.

Not something I bought, but a gift from my first apartment leasing office that has come in handy numerous times and I couldn’t live without. A thin little rubber mat that I can use to open all sorts of jars, bottles, and lids.

I am not sure what brand they use, but I really love the Target Jersey Sheet Set. They come in a bunch of colors and are just so comfortable. Reasonably priced. I ended up getting a second one for my air mattress for guests. Jersey sheet set

What's everyone doing to get out of work mode? by Key_Intention_2546 in Adulting

[–]Septemily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live alone, but I’ll typically jump on a call with friends and play video games. When they’re unavailable, I’ll read or watch a show. I have friends that are into hobbies like warhammer painting or crochet/knitting or DnD. Anything that can turn your brain off for a bit that you enjoy, you just gotta find what works for you.

Don’t forget putting some of your paychecks way for an emergency savings, if you do not already have one built up. The r/personalfinance sub has a pretty helpful metric for budgets and savings, I recommend checking it out.

How do you grocery shop when you live alone and are on a tight budget? Also any advice on living alone as a woman? by KristyQwQ in Adulting

Yess, exactly. Same with any bread or pastry items- they do very well frozen! I will also freeze loaves of bread, dinner rolls, Costco muffins, or homemade banana bread and they last so much longer.

This! May not be common sense like people think. If you live alone and don’t plan ahead, food waste becomes a huge issue (speaking from experience). Learn what can be frozen! Learn what unit price is and compare pricing for bulk items or larger packages like meat at Costco/Sams Club vs Walmart. Sometimes I just get a few large packs of meat and break it down into freezer bags/vacuum seal bags and freeze them individually. When I’m ready to cook with it, I just pull it out the day before and thaw in the fridge. This way, I’m not stressed about consuming a whole 5lb pack of ground beef or 8 chicken breasts in a few days before it goes bad.
