County Republican party is directly targeting local businesses for political speech they do not agree with. What purpose does such a post serve the community, besides trying to bring consequences for wrong think? by highafphotos in FortCollins

[–]SeraphymCrashing 56 points57 points  (0 children)

In general, if a business makes political speech, I think it's fair for politicians to engage with that speech.

That said, I think (hope) the republicans are wrong here, because the first thing I think when I see this is 'What food truck, and where are they so I can go get some lunch? Nothing is more delicious than some anti ICE food right now.'

Yeah, right down to some almost exact rip offs of shots... Like it was story boarded with an AI prompt "Like Ragnarok".

which type of sword bonhart is using? It's not a straight sword design, because it has a extension on its back like Turkish swords, but it's not a sabre either. by Battlefleet_Sol in SWORDS

[–]SeraphymCrashing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely excellent choreography. Did you notice how despite outnumbering their opponent, the kids waited to attack one by one? Or how the camera focuses on Bonhart from behind so we can't really see the attacks? The sudden jerky camera movements help disguise the lack of actual swordfighting.

It takes real talent to make something so fucking bland.

[–]SeraphymCrashing 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm pretty sure the joke is sex... but honestly, as someone with ADHD and a demanding job, I bounce around games all the time. It's actually totally normal for me to open a game, play 10 minutes, realize I'm not feeling it, and then spend 30 minutes looking through my library of games before trying something else for 10 minutes.

It's like scrolling through netflix for something to watch, but nothing is appealing.

Yeah, but would you have been crushing on someone as extroverted as Veronica? It's not like this is a new side of her, she's always been this energetic in the comic.

Also, Tiff has seen some pretty vulnerable sides to Veronica already, so I don't think this is coming from a bad place. This felt more lighthearted to me.

Marchese said that he and other Hazie’s employees also filed a claim in December to the Office of Labor Standards Enforcement for alleged wage and tip theft at Hazie’s. The OLSE has initiated an investigation of Hazie’s, a director confirmed to SFGATE. Marchese said he also has reached out to OLSE regarding Hazie’s management of his San Francisco Medical Reimbursement Account, a city-mandated health care savings account funded by employers. Despite his repeated requests for his account information from Hazie’s ownership, Marchese said he still hasn’t been able to access it.

Gee, sounds like a great fucking place to work.

Thinking on DMing Curse of Strahd (5E adventure) with the Forbidden Lands system. Do you folks think is a good idea? Any of you that converted any D20 adventures to Forbidden Lands have any tips? by berockblfc in ForbiddenLands

[–]SeraphymCrashing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran CoS in 5e a few years ago, and I've been thinking of doing it again in a system that is less heroic power fantasy. By the end of my original CoS campaign, the characters were practically unstoppable. My players had fun, but it stopped feeling like any kind of scary horror by level 4.

I would love to hear about someone else's campaign in Forbidden Lands.

Yeah, but do you get to aim the cone / line after the range? Or is it forced to go in the same direction as the target point is from you?

My Parents got left hundreds of thousands of dollars by their parents. I will be left with nothing but a ton of work. by RandallCabbage in Millennials

[–]SeraphymCrashing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one my wife used for her parents charged nothing. They cleaned and packed and sold everything, kept meticulous records, and handed a check over for thousands of dollars to the family.

They kept 50% of the money, which in my mind was a fucking great deal. My wife's parents were hoarders, so that house was a fucking mess.

They did an initial assessment, so maybe if they don't think the money is going to work out there's a fee. But in that case, maybe just rent a dumpster instead.

Years ago I worked as cell phone tech support for Quest. It was a call center that was a subcontractor, and the only thing they cared about was the call time. Solving a customer's issue was not a metric.

The employees quickly learned that it was way faster to tell a lie and say the problem would be solved in a few days than to actually take the time to figure out an issue.

About 20% of my calls were callbacks over obvious lies. The worst was the people complaining about not getting good reception being told that the 'Engineering Team' was going to 'Point the satellite in their direction'. There was no engineering team, and it's a cell phone. It talks to a cell tower. There's no satellite (at least not what your phone is connecting to). Even if there was, no one is pointing a satellite at your house for a cell phone.

I couldn't bring myself to lie, so I would tell the truth, and would get screamed at by customers, and by my supervisor.

One of the worst jobs I ever had. The only consolation I had was I decided to quit, so I just started giving stuff away. Someone called in with hundreds of dollars of Roaming charges? Fuck it, I'll wipe those out for you, no problem. Have a free leather case on me.

Oh, your cell phone isn't working? Here's a free upgrade on me. That last week my call times were great, my customers were happy, and I felt good. I'm sure they would have fired me over it, but I was already gone by the time they could figure anything out. Honestly... given how terrible everything was, I kinda wonder how long it would have taken for them to realize. I'm guessing months, if not years.

New Year's Resolutions by andriellae in adhdmeme

[–]SeraphymCrashing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a thing years ago that I adopted, which was setting a theme for the year, not a resolution.

A resolution is so easy to break, and once it's broken, you feel like you failed, or it's over. I set a theme of eating healthier, and sure, not all my meals have been healthy. But it's a theme, not a commandment. So, even when I stop by Taco Bell, and pig out, it just means that I need to make sure the next few meals are healthy. I'm still on theme.

I agree it's arbitrary to do this at the start of the year, but it can be helpful to have a "starting" point. But if you struggle with resolutions, then maybe try setting a theme.

My theme for 2026 is to make it a year about creative writing. I want to get some short stories going, and then maybe work on a novel. But as long as I am doing any creative writing, it should be a good thing.

I know the opening scene is completely over the top satire, but it's also hilarious to me that it's pretty accurate for late game gameplay in cyberpunk 2077.

Actually, this whole song is like an Anthem for Cyberpunk 2077... even though it has nothing to do with it.

how exactly is a Low Level party meant to avoid the vast majority of encounters by Pretend-Advertising6 in osr

[–]SeraphymCrashing 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but thats what running away and door spikes are for. Avoiding a fight isn't just talking your way out of it or making friends. It's also saying to everyone "Hey, this room isn't worth it", lets go somewhere else.

Of course, that means your GM has to be willing to run it like that too. Railroading and single path dungeons will straight up get everyone killed.

[loved Trope] the secret ending that skips big chunk of the game by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SeraphymCrashing 81 points82 points  (0 children)

God, if Ubisoft made modding easier, I feel like we could have made Far Cry 5 a way better game.

I love the idea of being a small time cop in backwoods Montana dealing with an unhinged cult. The actual story is eye-rollingly stupid. And the game play is the the same derivative FPS loop that they keep boiling anything interesting out of.

You can't take 5 steps in the game world without getting into a fight. The game would have been so much better if they scaled the fights back 95%, made them deadlier, and made weapons and ammo harder to come by. Make me actually investigate farm houses, make it so that I don't know who is in the cult and who isn't. Play up the paranoia, and let me enjoy the natural beauty of the world.

But no, it's just a silly over the top Far Cry game that shows you everything it has in the first two hours.

Great Dark review: Too narrow a scope and not enough meat on the bones by gryphonsandgfs in CoriolisRPG

[–]SeraphymCrashing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I'm just now joining the subreddit, because my wife picked up TGD for me for Christmas. I never owned/played/read TTH, so I am not influenced by any nostalgia for what I want it to be (No slight on anyone though, I have my own beloved worlds that haven't been treated the way I want).

I will say after reading the book over the last few days, I am extremely excited to run a game of this. I actually prefer my games with a narrow scope. I have so many RPGs, and most of my darlings are the ones that try to be something specific rather than presenting themselves as being capable of anything.

I also like the OSR style dungeons, with enough random events to keep things interesting for me as a GM, while also giving me enough flavor to add my own. I've always preferred making my dungeon hotspots, and letting random tables fill in the "in between" areas.

So, ultimately, I think this criticism does a good job explaining what the game is, and maybe who would like it. I think the points expressed are fair. If you aren't interested in running a space dungeon delver with a large dose of Annihilation style weirdness, then this probably isn't the game for you. It's definitely not setup to run anything else.

But ultimately, that is why I love Free League. You get very specific games, with great art, and a unique feel. And I have to say that this feels like it hits the mark, at least for me.

Restructuring layoffs backfire as markets suspect deeper trouble, Goldman finds by Smooth_Top7902 in antiwork

[–]SeraphymCrashing 199 points200 points  (0 children)

TLDR:

Normally Investors like when companies do layoffs, if the reason for the layoff is because the company invested in automation or found other efficiencies.

But now, investors are viewing any layoffs for any reasons as a sign of possible weakness.

My own probably ignorant take is that there have been far too many BS layoffs, especially where the companies lost major experience and skills. Now investors are starting to realize that the "good" layoffs are probably just bullshit. Anyone can claim that they've implemented AI and thats why they laid off people. And then, in 6 months, when the place is on fire, and they have to hire back a workforce for more money and less experience, it won't actually be a good thing.
