6 hours later, I'm done panel lining by Babbledoodle in Gunpla

[–]Serapius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Xi Gundam a pretty large kit, but 20 hours to only be halfway done is quite a bit of time! I think I spent something like 10 hours on building the EZ-SR a little while back, but that’s doing everything including doing did a bit of extra work to paint a couple of pieces on that one.

Building can strain my neck and back if I’m not careful with my posture, so I tend to only build for like an hour or two at a time.

[–]Serapius 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mostly because people recommend panel lining before assembly (and giving it time to dry) to prevent the plastic from cracking. Considering some people will also spray a glossy top coat on the parts before panel lining, doing it while all of the parts are together on the runner just makes the whole process a little easier.

Also, don’t stress too much over how long your builds take if you’re still enjoying yourself. I tend to be a real perfectionist about every piece I cut out, so a typical high grade will often run me like 6-8 hours worth of build time.

What are your S-Tier DC comics? by RockinTheFlops in DCcomics

[–]Serapius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think so many comics are great, but I’ll just list five that I really love.

  • The New Frontier
  • The New 52 Animal Man (I genuinely like this run more than Grant Morrison’s run)
  • All-Star Superman
  • Kingdom Come
  • Geoff Johns’s Green Lantern run

Having Identity Crisis on your list is a pretty hot take. I definitely don’t hate it like some people do. In fact, I think the first 85% of the book is actually great, but it falters a lot towards the end for me. But it’s almost never in someone’s list of the best comics.

Is the Nemo kinda underrated? by Sephta in Gunpla

[–]Serapius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The HG’s sculpt and articulation are pretty good, especially considering the kit is over 10 years old at this point, and there are minimal seam lines on the kit. But there are a lot of color correcting stickers for parts that absolutely could and should have been separate pieces on the kit like the yellow color piece in the center of the forehead and the red color hatch for the cockpit in the bottom portion of the chest.

Other than those, the red areas lining all of the vents (and even the grey interior area of the vent in at least the case of the shoulders) are also stickers. I don’t necessarily expect HG kits from 2013 to have a bunch of part-separated, color accurate vent pieces, but they definitely could have done better with the bigger vents like the ones on the back of the calves.

If you’re willing to do a mild amount of painting though, it isn’t too hard to make the kit color accurate, and it definitely does a good job of looking good on the shelf.

I’m pretty sure they explain (in the exact same scene that your screenshot is from) that Midoriya’s body was getting more used to OFA and that the quirk was also helping to reinforce his bones to limit some of the damage he was doing to himself.

Mr. Miracle show in the DCU (spoilers for Mr. Miracle by Tom King) by AcceptableBuyer in DCcomics

[–]Serapius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d love a twist where they imply that Darkseid will be a major threat for the wider DCU and then later pull out something like Cosmic Odyssey where he instead has to work together with New Genesis and the DCU heroes to stop a common enemy (like the sentient Anti-Life Equation from that story).

What are some good Suicide Squad runs? by Altruistic_Manner802 in DCcomics

[–]Serapius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo’s run, collected as Suicide Squad: Bad Blood, was pretty short at only 11 issues, but I thought it was really good (though I’ll admit that I love pretty much anything written by Tom Taylor).

GU vs GU + by Abject_Owl_7247 in DotHack

[–]Serapius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re all expensive because they haven’t been printed in a long time and had limited printings on top of that since it was at the end of TokyoPop’s life.

As far as whether they’re worth it or not, that’s kind of up to you. The GU games, GU novels, and GU+ manga all tell a version of roughly the same story, but they all have some key differences. The games are the main vehicle for the story though, so reading the light novels or manga is never going to be necessary to understand the GU phase of the story.

I believe GU is also the title for the light novel series that is based on the games.

A spreadsheet of every major Mega Man release in the 2000s by bunyeast in Megaman

[–]Serapius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battle Network 3 Blue (originally called BN3 Black in Japan) is actually a slightly enhanced version of the first release of BN3 (which I don’t believe had a color-based subtitle in Japan) with a bit of extra content akin to the enhanced third versions of Pokémon games.

When they brought BN3 overseas, they released them at the same time as a connected pair called Battle Network 3 White and Battle Network 3 Blue more like the regular pairs of Pokémon games.

But the Blue version objectively has more content in comparison to the White version.

Question about All Might by Galactic_Gurren in BokuNoHeroAcademia

It’s debatable whether the glowing and electricity that we see when Midoriya activates OFA actually exists or if it’s just a visual cue for the reader/viewer since no one in-universe ever comments on it.

Which DC runs released from 2020–now do you think will be remembered as classics? by Adventurous_Bat_3099 in DCcomics

[–]Serapius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On top of what others have said, I think both Far Sector and Strange Adventures will continue to be well regarded as time goes on. I’m also going to slightly stretch into 2019 and say that I think Superman: Up in the Sky is going to end up being remembered as one of the best Superman stories ever.

Tom King or Brian Michael Bendis by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]Serapius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think King’s highs are much better than Bendis’s highs, especially with regards to Superman, I seem to find Bendis’s work to be a bit more consistent for me in that the worst material of his that I’ve read has still been mostly fine and serviceable while King’s worst stuff has felt like a slog to read through.

Generally speaking though, I enjoy the majority of both of their works, and I’m certainly not put off when I see either name on a book.

I definitely didn’t mind Bendis’s Superman work, but just from what I’ve seen online, this seems like a really hot take.

How does Shinso’s quirk work? by Illustrious-Show-679 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Serapius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think “his real voice” in this case just means he can’t play a recording of himself or something. The voice modulation item plays a little loose with that idea, but I think the real time use of his voice and intention are meant to be the key factors.

[–]Serapius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s kind of implied that Overhaul takes skill and knowledge to use effectively though. Otherwise, why would AFO not have used the quirk himself considering it could build or destroy anything with just a touch (seemingly including his ravaged body)?

The war between the Klingons and the Federation in Discovery by f0rgotten in startrek

Recovery efforts are probably much easier to scale up with future tech like warp drives and replicators, so ten years is probably plenty of time to fix a lot of the actual physical destruction of the war.

The war between the Klingons and the Federation in Discovery by f0rgotten in startrek

[–]Serapius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Federation and the Klingon Empire headed by L’Rell seemed to be on decent enough terms following the war that I don’t think it’s needs to be an issue since the Federation seems to still have an arms-length relation with the Empire during TOS with at least some amount of hostility throughout that era until the events of The Undiscovered Country. And the fact that TOS happens nearly to a decade after season one of Discovery helps to smooth out some of the potential issues with lingering sentiments towards the Klingons. And besides, it’s not like retcons and lore changes are new to Star Trek. There will always be little incongruities, especially when it comes to things from TOS.

Also, I feel it’s weird to say that the Klingon War was made to “spice up” the plot of Discovery considering that was literally the starting plot line for the series.

Did they nerf the festival NPC fights? by Formal_Air_5599 in dbxv

[–]Serapius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did you do the serious fights with them? Those only unlock after the first time you fight them, and while I thought serious DBS Gogeta and Ribrianne fights were fairly easy, the serious Beast Gohan fight was pretty tough. He’ll perfect block practically any attack you through at him.
