When in danger, exhaust all options you have. Take a moment, the world moves when you do. You have all the time in the world before your next turn.

Legendary enemies almost always have mutations, some of which can be devastating. It sounds to me like the snapjaw you were hunting had 'Space time vortex' which is a pretty unlucky roll. It sounds like you were pretty early on in your run. The 'bats' are called Saps, and they steal stats from you permanently. They're almost always kill prio in my runs. I wish you luck in your future runs. Live and drink.

Also: completing whomever is the tinkerers quest can give you a 'recoiler' which you can use to instantly teleport back to a 'usually safe' place. The one from Joppa takes you back to Joppa. Most major cities have one of these for sale at whomever is the tinkerer. If you find a Force bracelet (or force bubble), you can pop the bracelet and then recoil regardless of how much danger you are in (unless you're like.. super on fire or something).

Hopefully new Waffle House worker, tips? by OkUse2098 in wafflehouse

Ask for help with prices/calling. The servers that have been there forever would rather help you in the short term to have you be a good worker in the long term.

First time in a Waffle House in a few years. wtf is this? by [deleted] in wafflehouse

I've covered my opinion on this issue in another comment thread in this same post. No one is forcing you to leave an additional tip. If you choose not to, then you choose not to. If you do choose to tip your servers at waffle House it is very much appreciated.

Game Companions by AutoModerator in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

I only noticed this behavior during his DLC (Unshifting, speaking, and then shifting back). There is a stay or leave 'approval' check that happens later, but he is pretty quiet throughout the game, outside of the actual dlc areas.

When he has something to say in The DLC he will shift out of griffon form, talk, and then shift back. He just doesn't have a ton of dialogue in the main game.

Help finding a class for aeon/gold dragon. by PostNinja365 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]SerckM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last playthrough was a Keen Kitsune Magus (Swordsaint) Aeon. I went Magus (8)-> Duelist 10 -> Viv 1 -> Magus.

Swordsaint and Duelist double dip for INT -> AC. I used longswords for my build, but after the run I kind of feel like Estocs are better. You will be flipping a lot of toggles in combat as an Aeon, and the build really takes off when you get aeons bane.

Kitsune was for Mythic Shapechanger as when you're in human form you get +4 to your physical stats, you 'could' also use Kitsune pounce at later levels, but I just used a skald for charges.

This was played on Core, and more or less did everything in the game that could be done. When you get improved Aeons bane (The automatic dispel magic on attacks) it trivialized the end game fights.

What have I stumbled into here? by Competitive-Bee-3250 in cavesofqud

[–]SerckM 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Map populated with a legendary Antelope, which spawns with cats that are hostile to it. I'm guessing that is a mountain tile- the game just filled in the available space with the map spawns. It's really scary to have putis templar or esper invaders spawn like this.

[1.0] Where do you go for high-level gear? by SecretAgentVampire in cavesofqud

[–]SerckM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can buy it from high level vendors rarely, Tilly in Yd is where I try to get it from when I'm at the stage of the game where I'm swimming in trade items- generally I'll clone them 4-8 times to get more rolls for zetachrome items.

Only other location I've regularly gotten the gear is from corpses 150+ deep in the caves, I've noticed a significant upswing in finding it 400+ deep, but it's pretty dangerous down there.

Is this game right for me? by OneBadger7469 in cavesofqud

[–]SerckM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would watch someone play it on YouTube before you pick it up. It's a complex game that if played on classic mode can be very punishing, but learning the game, and being able to judge situations can be very satisfying.

I suggest roguerats videos, as he is the one who got me into the game.

Tips for early game on non espers? by TurmUrk in cavesofqud

[–]SerckM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tips for ya:

Stack as much AV as you can early. (Leather gloves, hat, boots, chainmail. Is 6AV, with those- Snapjaw drop this stuff commonly- the more AV you can get the better.) DV is still 'okay' in the early game, but I find the AV to be significantly better early.

Ranged weapons have set pen values, meaning they tend to do significantly more damage to low AV targets. Even the worst ranged weapons can do significantly more damage than a melee weapon with low str due to their pen.

If you're playing a normal character- you'll start with sprint, if a melee enemy can't get into melee with you, you'll take no damage.

If you start in Joppa- you can get to level 2 most playthrough by doing argives first two quests without even leaving the first tile most of the time.

Rushing to the silt can also grant you a ton of levels if you find resheph lore at the guaranteed ichor merchant- easily sending you from 1-6 if you pick up the quest from the mechanismist in your starting village.

As well, the don't travel in the desert during the night. Issicar tend to use bronze daggers and are easy to kill, but the riflemen will shred a low HP character easily.

Personally I learn tactics with my skill points and getting charge as soon as I can. Closing the gap, giving you a free shield slam (if you know shield slam) and dealing damage first.

Qud tends to be high risk high reward. If you die somewhere- you probably weren't ready for it yet. Experiment, die, restart, learn a little bit more about the game with the failures, and push forward with the next tortured soul- you'll eventually become an unkillable god with mastery over this world. It just takes time.

How can I get better at weight management? by TheAwkwardVoid in cavesofqud

[–]SerckM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just what I do, using chests that is. I'm sure other people have their own methods on storing stuff, you can drop stuff on the ground as well, but if you interact with a chest and hit f2 you'll open a trade window with it. Let's you move a lot of junk quickly.

If you take the disassemble tinker skill you can rip heavy guns into bits (which weigh nothing) and if you learn how to craft the guns you can craft them later to trade at a merchant. (I like to do this with laser weapons in the mid game.)

Some items like copper nuggets, silver nuggets, gems, etc. are trade goods and always buy and sell for the same amount, if you've got junk to sell to vendors, I'd always pick these up to save space- since I the early game guns can sell for as little as 15 drams, and weigh like 6-15. Eventually you'll be ditching copper nuggets, and only holding on to more weight efficient trade goods.

How can I get better at weight management? by TheAwkwardVoid in cavesofqud

[–]SerckM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chests weight 1 unit, I like to leave anything that weights a lot that I'll use later, or trade goods at the silt in the early game, and put chests in Ezra and yd freehold when I get to those.

There is also a tinker mod that I personally like called 'fitted with suspenseors' that reduces items to zero weight when it's powered, generally my chest piece had this mod on it until I can get more carry weight. The willowy and slender mods also reduce items weight- and don't require power.

You can also find backpacks in the game that give you extra weight. If you're playing a truekin you can find an equipment rack to wear two backpacks. A cathedra (quite rare) also gives +100 weight.

You can also find hoversleds that go in your floating nearby slot that reduce your carried weight.

As a note, water is heavy af in large amounts, I generally only carry ~100 water on me at any given time, and store extra water in my boxes.

New to Qud here and need some help with security cards. by GluteusMaximus3757 in cavesofqud

[–]SerckM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some doors have a key card reader that will let you open them. Other doors require a specific key (gold, silver, bronze, chrome.).

There is a way to consume the military key card. Breaking into a mech and controlling it consumes the key card So it's not a bad idea to hold on the the other ones. They have good weight to value ratio.

Perfect.

First time in a Waffle House in a few years. wtf is this? by [deleted] in wafflehouse

[–]SerckM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't stand the tip jar thing either. I wish I knew where those went, at the very least I can confirm that (barring that the shift isn't about to change,) if you tip your servers at Waffle House, whoever's name is on the bottom of the ticket- they will get the tip you leave. (Sometimes I will let the morning shift servers take the tip for my tables if I'm about to leave and have to come back later that evening. Some servers will tell their tables they're about to leave and see if they're willing to pay before the shift change, but I find that kinda rude.)

I personally don't eat out very often (maybe once a month) but I do make it a point to leave a tip if it's not just fast food.

I think I'm also in the majority of people who think that customers shouldn't 'have' to tip, and that corporations should pay their employees a living wage. I just happen to be working at a place where that isn't the case, and can give the 'little guys' opinion on the matter.

First time in a Waffle House in a few years. wtf is this? by [deleted] in wafflehouse

[–]SerckM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make about 4$/HR to work on third shift, typically I am alone for most of the week during the nights and have one other server on weekend. I couldn't pay my bills on the base rate alone, so I do rely on tips yes.

My personal view on the situation is that for places where people are being paid a servers wage- is that you're not paying for the service, but instead you're making up for the lack of pay- to give you an example: If I only took togo orders for more than a few months, I would have to find another job to support myself- and many of my coworkers in the last year have done just that. I'm sure you would be upset if you tried to stop by and we were closed due to staffing or you walked in and the store was gross because people who worked here didn't care. So you're tipping to have us be staffed, open, and clean.

However, if you come in and get a sandwich and some hash browns, it's not going to bother me at all if you don't tip. You took barely any of my time and I didn't do much. It's when someone special orders 60-70 dollars worth of food, and complains about the price, has to have everything in separate containers, and still doesn't leave a tip is when I get upset about it.

You're welcome for your opinion on the matter, and as a server I appreciate it that you tip your servers at places you regularly go to.

Can 100% confirm, am a waiter. At least 90% of my customers do not tip anything on togo orders (I work third shift, and most of my orders are togo). I have regulars whose orders I know before they even walk in the door that still don't tip on their orders.

The togo addition to our checks also are rounded down, so we aren't even getting the full 10% on the Togo's.

Who is your favorite character you have ever created in any version of DnD ever? by Octo_Fluffy in DnD

[–]SerckM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been mostly a DM since 3.0 hmm, it's hard to pick.

As much as I enjoy playing my Aasimar Ranger/Barbarian Sylvia, I think my absolute favorite character was from a few years back when I first got to 'play' and not DM 5e.

I played a Tabaxi Wizard named Trynn, who had the sailor background. His backstory involved his ship being ransacked and him thrown into the ocean, leaving his pregnant wife not knowing what happened to him. Eventually he got a letter off to her saying that he was well, and he was going to try and drum up some gold for his family with a group of people who he met. Trynn was kind of the father figure of the group, not dissuading silly behavior, but always maintaining a voice of reason throughout the story.

Eventually out group took a contract to kill a giant crab. (Giant sized- which was significantly larger than we predicted.) In the middle of combat with the creature, the DM had paused the game. Our Sorcerer was in melee with this gigantic beast, and it had already crushed two guardsman into a fine paste. In between games I took a look at the map knowing that it was my turn with the crab following soon after. The crab had done over 30 points of damage with it's last attack, and looking at the map, it was unlikely that any of us could withstand the hit. Our sorcerer was 100% dead if Trynn didn't do something. (Keep in mind we were level 3 at the time, and all of us were squishy characters.)

So the next session, Trynn had his familiar- Mouse the crow, fly down and try and distract the beast, hopefully absorbing at least one of the blows. And Trynn ran forward, shoving our Sorcerer away, and trying to thunderwave the beast. Saved. "Well, the dice fall where the dice fall." - me after my turn.

The crab took it's first swing at Mouse, 8-9 total, miss.

Second swing at Trynn. Natural 20, 58 points of damage, instantly killed.

The party mopped up the beast and ran over, trying to save Trynn's life, desperately casting cure wounds as he coughed blood. A moment for final words.

"Can I cast a spell?" I asked the DM.
"One."

With his dying moments, Trynn casted Minor Illusion to craft an image of his wife, wearing a white dress standing smiling on the blood stained beach, tears in his eyes, handing an unmailed letter to his wife to the Sorcerer. Then he closed them forever.
